The Historic Center is where all the action is in the evenings, and it really gets packed on weekends. Besides the main square "Plaza De La Paz", the two small lanes "Calle Santo Tomás" and "Calle San Martín" are the places where you will find countless bars and restaurants. Also on the square "Plaza San Martin", which connects these two streets. For good Tapas head to "Los Canos" or "El Remolino". For Tapas with a twist, then you really need to check out the amazing "Beethoven I", amazing and innovative Tapas creations. We always enjoyed some bar-hopping here. Ending the night in one of the bars around Plaza De La Paz...many open late. The "Suizo" served huge drinks for small prices. Besides the food and drinks, it's the untouched old buildings in this part of town which makes it looks like you time-travelled back a few hundred years. And even though a major tourist attraction in the Rioja region, it is surprising how little international visitors you see in the evenings. It's mostly locals and spanish tourists. And that's great. In case you can't find a seat in one of the bars, do as locals do and just grab your Tapas and wine and sit on some bench, stone wall or stroll around the Plaza. Nice to know that many restaurants and bars allow dogs inside. Just ask. Haro is a wonderful town, a great base to explore the wine country. We will definitely be back. But we won't wait 7 years again.

The Suite has a vibrant decor and the wine theme is a lot of fun especially since our choice of Haro to visit was for the wines! Daniel greeted us and was most gracious, including recommending a wine tour guide that was awesome. Our friends booked the adjacent Reserva Suite, also very nice. The Reserva is a one-bedroom apartment, so a little larger than the studio. Haro comes alive on Saturday nights, so I recommend a Saturday if you want to see the locals in action

The owner, Lourdes, is a great host. We stayed here the first night of a three night trip to the Rioja wine region and San Sebastian, and her recomendations and suggestions, along with help booking visits with wineries/bodegas, was a huge huge asset and served to shape our trip. The hotel itself is very clean and cute, traditional but nice. In the middle of a quiet town, there are a few bars nearby and two very good restaurants in town that serve as destination dining experiences for many people visiting Rioja. The town is also only a 5 minute drive from Haro, where tasting rooms for many wineries are located, and it's not far off a major freeway that you may be following to get to the area. I couldn't say any more about how great it was. We also really appreciated that the bath towels were "sheet" size, huge! It's such a small but worthwhile luxury. Breakfast was mostly home made and served with jams Lourdes made herself! Amazing. Don't hesitate. Beds are also very comfortable.

This is a beautiful little hotel in the center of the Rioja Alta region between Haro and Logrono…read more There are several tasting rooms within a walking distance which is rare for Spain. Wine tasting in Spain is not what it is in California in that the wineries are really difficult to get to without a car or through an expensive tour group. Therefore, being able to stay in an area where you can walk to tasting rooms is a nice find. Beware however that the hotel is one of only 2 places you can eat within a walking distance. In the church courtyard is the second. On the plus side, not only are the tasting rooms and wineries just a short walk away, so are some breathtaking vistas of the Northern Rioja vineyards as they back up to the mountains. Definitely worth a few days just to unwind in the natural beauty. Definitely take a short walk up the road behind the church toward the mountains early morning and your eyes and senses will be rewarded!
