I was returning a rental car to Gare de Lyon, about a block from this gas station. I had located it before the trip as the most likely place to refill the gas tank before drop-off. I found the station and got in the short line for service. There are 4 pumps arranged in a line, so you may have to parallel park to get close to one for a fill-up. There is no one staffing this station; it was purely automated.
I had used at least two of my credit cards already in France, at multiple businesses on the same trip. However, for whatever reason, this station rejected all of my cards, one of my wife's, and one of my daughters. Plus, there is no option to pay in cash/Euros, which I was also willing to do. Hence I wound up returning the car somewhat empty and getting charged the extortion-rate for that. So a big non-thanks to Esso for helping to screw me. Others should be forewarned and plan accordingly; DO NOT plan on this as your rental car's pre-return fill up!
In complete fairness, there were other vehicles (local?) filling up; my issue is limited to the station's apparent problem with U.S.-issued credit cards. read more
