And thus, I finally get into the review drafts *from* my actual trip to mostly-Portugal (we stopped…read morein Spain on the way) a month and a half ago, including quite a number, like this coffee shop down the street from our hotel in Madrid, that were on Tripadvisor or some other review site, but not on Yelp. In addition to the usual menu of coffee drinks, for definitely cheaper than in the US, they also have a decent range of breakfast-type pastries. As you'd expect for a coffee shop, it's pay at the front up-front - when we were there, it was pretty busy, but we got our food and drinks quickly anyway, and while there were a decent number of people, they also still had some seating.
We tried:
Absolutely the *perfect* cardamom roll, for like... really not very much money, for how good and how large it was. Seriously wonderful. Would very much go back for if I were, unfortunately for me not terribly likely anytime soon, in the area.
A classic cortado - or I did, anyway. My wife isn't a coffee person, I unfortunately have been become one. Cortados are one easy way (also inexpensive) I like checking how good a coffee shop is - theirs are excellent.
A classic chocolate chip cookie, imo probably the best accompaniment for a cortado when done well. Admittedly I feel like my standards are particularly high for classic chocolate chip cookies - I'd give theirs a 4/5. Tons of chocolate, which is never bad, but the balance was a little off. Still great.
They also have several fantastic-looking whole loaves of bread for great prices. Unfortunately, we were only in the area for a couple days, obviously, on our way to Portugal, so didn't have a chance to try them. They looked great too though.
