My wife believed she was having an issue with her pancreas as she had a case of acute pancreatitis more than year or so ago. The initial check-in was rather quick; however, my wife was not triaged until 6:05 PM. My wife still had a high fever with abdominal pains. Part of their triage includes a FaceTime with a hospitalist! That was a new one for us. At approximately 6:20 PM they took my wife back for a blood test and an EKG. After that was done, she was informed that she would have a CT. My wife was not taken back into the ER until 11:30 PM! It was a long time sitting in the waiting room, waiting for anything to happen. The nurse that we had was terrific she was very empathetic and thoughtful! Sometime after midnight, they came to take my wife for the CT. We spoke with a hospitalist, she seemed to be very thoughtful and knowledgeable as well. After the CT and additional bloodwork was completed, the hospitalist spoke with us, noting that her fever had passed, and the CT revealed no issues with her pancreas. Bloodwork overall was good so they gave her a clean bill of health for checkout. We left the hospital sometime around 3 AM. I would say, once you get in to see the doctor everything isn't as bad as some of the reviews here in. It's just the wait to get in! The room we were in, #18, was clean and well kept. My wife had to use the bathroom a few times and it was clean as well. Just wish that we would've gotten in the back quicker. That said, our nurse remarked how incredibly busy they had been for the last two days for whatever reason. Unfortunately, my wife's health has necessitated multiple hospital visits over the last 15 years. Some hospitals in California and Ohio, and now Maryland. With that, we think we have experienced the spectrum.

My five-day stay at MedStar Southern Maryland was one of the most miserable and emotionally…read moreexhausting experiences of my life. I arrived seriously ill, in significant pain, and ultimately needed surgery to remove an infected and inflamed gallbladder. What should have been a place of healing and care instead became an experience I can only describe as inhumane. I was too sick to leave the hospital, yet I was told that my surgery was not a priority. Let that sink in. I was seriously ill, in pain, and dependent on this hospital for necessary medical treatment, yet I was left waiting with no clear answers about when I would receive it. For FOUR DAYS, I was repeatedly told that my surgery would happen, only to be told later that it had been canceled. This happened over and over, and no one could give me a reliable answer about when it would actually take place. Imagine being sick, scared, and in pain while repeatedly being given hope that you will finally get the treatment you need, only to have it taken away again. The uncertainty and complete lack of communication were mentally and physically exhausting. The situation with food was equally unacceptable. Because I was being kept prepared for surgery, from Wednesday through Saturday, the only thing I was able to eat was a single bowl of beef stock. I spent days ill, in pain, and barely nourished while waiting for a procedure I had been told was urgent. The conditions in the hospital made everything worse. There were FOUR patients in one room. It was horrifically loud, the air was painfully dry, and getting adequate rest was incredibly difficult. When you're seriously ill, you need an environment where you can rest and recover, not one that adds to your physical and emotional distress. Communication about my care was also deeply lacking. I was left feeling as though no one could tell me what was happening or when I could expect treatment. One of the most alarming moments was when an employee at the facility point-blank stated that she would not have surgery at this location herself. Hearing that from someone who works there certainly did not inspire confidence while I was lying in a hospital bed waiting for surgery. I want to be very clear about one thing: the nurses were great. They were not the problem. They did what they could, but they had no control over the surgical scheduling or the larger issues that made my stay so awful. My particular appreciation goes to Donna, my night nurse, who went above and beyond to help keep me safe and comfortable. Her compassion and attentiveness made a real difference, and she deserves recognition for the care she provided. I understand that hospitals face limited operating room availability and competing emergencies. What I cannot accept is being told that surgery is urgent while being left for days with repeated cancellations, no reliable timeline, and inadequate communication. Patients deserve better than being left in limbo while they are seriously ill. My frustration is directed at the hospital's systems, management, and overall patient experience, not the nurses who were trying to help within circumstances they could not control. Patients are human beings, not inconveniences on a scheduling board. We deserve dignity, honest communication, reasonable conditions, and compassionate care, especially when we are at our most vulnerable. MedStar Southern Maryland needs to seriously reevaluate how it manages urgent surgical cases and the conditions in which it expects patients to recover. The compassion of individual nurses cannot make up for a system that leaves patients feeling powerless, neglected, and desperate to get out. I would not wish this experience on anyone. I hope hospital leadership takes this feedback seriously, because no patient should have to endure five days like mine just to receive the medical care they came there for.

He did a brief evaluation, prescribed her nausea medication, sent her to the lab for blood work and put orders in for Pelvic exam and chest x ray , which had to be scheduled ! My daughter was so sick and weak when she FaceTimed me that I had call someone to piCK her up because she drove herself to her appointment. Once I attempted to call someone in his office to assist her it was 5pm , closed for the day . my daughter had to leave Camp Springs to go to Kensington because they was a appt available for her pelvic exam that day . In route there my daughter vomiting continued , upon arrival my daughter's vomiting continues . Instead of going to radiology she went to urgent care ! She was treated until they were closing at 11 pm , the transported to Gaithersburg for observation & treatment until The next day ! Diagnosed with food poisoning and severe dehydration. They failed terribly in patient care ! Not to mention Camp Springs has an urgent care literally 50 ft. From the internal medicine dept that she should have been transferred to before he clocked out ! I also don't understand why in her condition and age , he didn't he care enough to ask did she drive herself there before discharging a patient experiencing chest pains and abdominal pain. I Am very pleased with the care she received at Kensington and Gaithersburg.

Nowhere on the e-mail did it state that and I was very displeased that their communication and grace was not better for this situation. Seems like THEY can contact you however they feel is convenient, but you can only contact THEM in one way and that is not stated on their Auto-Email system(?). I had surgery over 2 years ago and my big toe on my right foot is stiff as a board, no range of motion at all. (Severe Stiffness in the Big Toe Joint). In my quest to get help for severe right foot pain I was having, and which I am still having, I stupidly returned to this doctor. And only because he would be familiar with my feet. Or one would think.... I was having severe pain on the ball of my right foot. He came in and asked what the problem was and proceeded to shave an area on the ball of my foot with a scalpel after one of his assistants directed me to soak my foot in a bucket. (Yes a bucket). The doctor came back in and sprayed my foot with something and left. Then an assistant can in and put a small bandage on my foot. That was it, no explanation, no diagnosis nothing. A month later I received a bill in the mail for $98. What really ticked me off was the fact that I was blatantly overcharged for services, some of which I DID NOT ASK FOR! Charges that I also reported to my insurance company. $83 for that piece of bandage they put on the bottom of my foot. $61 for debridement nails... So you just going to charge people $61 to cut a toe nail, something I don't even remember him doing. I could have gotten the DELUX Pedicure at the nail salon for that price!! The report sent to my insurance company mentioned my left foot, note HE DID ABSOLUTLY NOTHING TO MY LEFT FOOT. And $130 for unnecessary x-rays. RUN don't walk away from this place. HIS ACCOUNTING PERSON NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO SPEAK TO PATIENTS. VERY RUDE!!
