This then leads to the argument that if your guna drive to the gym to go for a run you might as well just go for a run. However, it is the whole set of facilities that make every session that little bit better. With indoor/outdoor swimming pools, a great gym, tennis courts, badminton courts, physios, steam room, sauna and spa but to name a few, the facilities are vast. I always feel that if you are going to do fitness you need to do cardio and weight training as both are necessary for good all round fitness. Then you need a reward which is when the sauna and steam rooms come in. This place isn't cheap but if you go on the website you can get a free days membership so you can see what your missing out on. Creche facilities as well so having kids is no excuse!!!

Guess being cheap means, forget about service!

I've been a member of Max Strength for the past five months. I'm a long time gym goer but always…read moreseems to get bored and de-motivated when I didn't get the results that I wanted. Max Strength offer group training sessions, so you get the benefit and knowledge of personal trainer without the crazy cost! Groups are still pretty small, and you get quite a good team spirit going after a few sessions together. They offer both outdoor and indoor boot camp sessions, along with strength training. The guys know what they are doing, so after a mere 40 minutes I get a much better workout than pounding the machines at the gym for hours and not really knowing what to do! I feel stronger, I have lots more energy and I'm leaner to the tune of almost two dress sizes. The sun always seems to shine on our Saturday morning boot camps, and working out in the open air is lovely!

Wickwoods is a beautiful country club just outside of Brighton. It's location is fantastic -…read morenestled in beautiful countryside just the other side of the Downs, yet less than 15 minutes from my house by car. The gym facilities are great. Admittedly, it's not the biggest gym in the world, but it has plenty of equipment to get a great workout including all the usual cardiac machines, weights machines, free weights (this area is very lady friendly, unlike other gyms I have experienced in the past), and TRX. They also have limited membership so the gym is never really crowded and I've certainly never had to wait for any of the machines. That said, my gym inductions weren't that successful, and for this Wickwoods loses a star. The first induction I had was good but the instructor was leaving the next day, and forgot to write down the program she had developed for me. The second time, the girl was incredibly moody as she had been booked by her colleague and didn't really have time. One very quick, abrupt tour of the gym later I had a program written down but a slightly sour taste in my mouth from the way I was treated. It's a shame as everyone else I have come across at the club has been really pleasant. As well as the gym, they have a studio room where they run numerous classes. The classes run by the gym instructors are better in my experience, the others can be a little 80's in style!! There is a beautiful pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room area that is just perfect to use after a hard workout in the gym. They also have inside and outside tennis courts, tennis coaching and tournaments - I may pick up my tennis racket again when the weather cheers up! I am yet to try the restaurant, although the carvery looks and smells fantastic on a Sunday - book in advance though, they never have room for us when we turn up after the gym. The bar area is a great place to stop for a coffee or something stronger - you have earned it by this stage of course! There are also treatment rooms which I plan to use in the very near future - there has to be some reward for all this hard work!

However, exam stress led me to pause my membership and then as I completed uni I could no longer afford the extortionate £140/ month fee and decided to cancel. (unemployed with no income). BUT, the tiniest small print in the contract included a 12 month notice period needed. meaning I now owed over £1000 for a gym I wont use and cannot even afford the monthly payment. I have explained this to them with proof of a negative bank balance, however all they could offer was to say that the would send debt collectors after me (an unemployed student with no income). a horrendous way to treat customers.

Every effort was made to persuade me to join but I explained that too healthy a life style/excercise disrupts my fondness of naughty foods etc!! Lovely pool, (not too cold for the old boy), that has a steam room, sauna and spa all built in. (I thought a steam room was a sauna)!! Fabulous restaurant but a little on the pricey side ie £6.95 for a Cheese Jacket..errr! Coffee's well priced. Quite a busy Gym but pretty quiet mid-pm. Not only because I'm here all the time, but because the people that run/own the place and the members have made me feel that way. The owners are wonderful - very well versed in fitness, and provide excellent workouts on a daily basis. The members are beyond friendly, helpful, kind, and thoughtful. I really cannot say enough good things about this place. Should you find yourself in Worthing (or Littlehampton - where there will be a NEW Smart Performance Crossfit) and need a great team of people to help you achieve your fitness goals - look no further. Smart Performance Crossfit is as good as it gets. I'm heading back to the States in a few short weeks, and what I'm going to miss most is SF Crossfit.
