Max Strength offer group training sessions, so you get the benefit and knowledge of personal trainer without the crazy cost! Groups are still pretty small, and you get quite a good team spirit going after a few sessions together. They offer both outdoor and indoor boot camp sessions, along with strength training. The guys know what they are doing, so after a mere 40 minutes I get a much better workout than pounding the machines at the gym for hours and not really knowing what to do! I feel stronger, I have lots more energy and I'm leaner to the tune of almost two dress sizes. The sun always seems to shine on our Saturday morning boot camps, and working out in the open air is lovely!

Been there since Oct 2018, paid for a year, initial few months were cool, tho very busy, usually…read morestudents, changing rooms gets very messy, especially toilets, however last few months, lockers are getting broken, not repaired, water fountains keeps breaking down, especially during hot summer months, no joke! and today, gym closed due to massive water leak, notice states will email to advise how to use sister gym in town, but waited all day, no emails, website does not mention anything, called, waited for nearly 25 minutes until a rather nonchalant person answered, not really bothered about inconvenience experienced (travel to gym, find parking space, paid for parking space, found gym close!) ... Guess being cheap means, forget about service!

I would highly recommend this gym to anyone who was looking for a decent gym in Brighton…read more The staff are professional and friendly, they don't hound you to sign up for a Personal training session with them - which they do in LA FITNESS. It's clean and spacious - you don't need to worry about really waiting for machines or bumping into/getting in the way of people- which you do in LA FITNESS. It's also got some really good high quality and state of the art equipment .. I particularly enjoy running, but sometimes it gets a bit boring - especially if you run for a while! Some of the machines in this gym have screens which enable you to choose a route to follow, so it feels as if you are actually running through that scene. My favourite by far is the German Mountains run! Its great and has kept me really entertained! This gym is a little more expensive than the other gyms such as LA FITNESS or pure gym or The gym. Their membership is around £45 or more so perhaps a little more than others but its worth it! You avoid queues, it's not as busy, and really the main thing.....people who go there know what their doing and don't dress in vans, skinny fit adidas tracksuits and wife beaters/vest tops that look like they should be bungee jump straps! One disadvantage... No pool!

The only reason I chose this over any other was closeness to home and ease of access; beyond that, it is comparable to any other gym, if a little smaller. Otium is the in-house gym for the Thistle Hotel: as such, it is kept in excellent condition. Although it is generally quite small, with a lot of machines crammed in, they all work and are kept in good nick. That being said, I've stopped going at peak times (lunchtimes, after 5) because you often don't get to use the machines you want, or have to wait for a little while. Apart from all of the machinery, Otium has a good selection of weights, gym balls and other paraphenalia: anything the gym novice may need. Not being that knowledgeable about gym machinery, I don't know if they have anything for the true enthusiast; although judging by the general size of the gym, I'd doubt it. That being said, the pool and sauna section next door is excellent: well looked after, pleasantly designed, and more than large enough for the gym itself. It never seems that busy either... a nice alternative to the always busy pools around town. So, a generally nice gym, well-looked after and run, if a little small. It's about the same price as any other gym; it was slightly cheaper when I joined than the other Brighton gym behemoths, but I reckon that was probably a special offer. I'd recommend it for locals, but not worth going out of your way for.

There was about 80 people splashing around in their bikinis and costumes whilst behind them a gigantic screen played film footage all centred around swimming and swimming pools. There were ushers selling popcorn and people queing to sit down and watch from the raised spectator seats. It was a quietly magical experience that definitely encouraged me to go back to Prince Regent and actually swim there. As well as having a proper pool with different swimming lanes for professionals and sports fanatics, there's a shallow pool for kids and beginners and a warm teaching pool for toddlers. There's also a sauna, steam room and gym apparently - all at extra cost on a daily or weekly basis. Will post photos of the Cine City / White Night event in a few hours for swimming movie fans!

This swimming pool complex is in a convenient location right next to Starbucks and Pizza Express…read more(Not the best places to go right after a swim but what can you do?!) nearby the north laines - and it has a car park, a fairly small car park but it's great for the nightmare that is Brighton. Plus it's free after 6. Bonus! This pool itself is fairly average - it's good if it's not busy and it has 2 other seperate pools for swimming lessons and aqua aerobics (which by the way I must say looks rather fun!) The gym part of the complex is situated right above the pool so you can look up at those on the treadmills - just as they can look down at you which I guess it adds a little amusement! The changing rooms are OK, there is a fair selection of sizes including family rooms (I know I shouldn't use these but it's so much nicer to have space!). The thing is it does smell a little, as do the toilets... If you live in Brighton and enjoy swimming, there's no reason not to go here, it's just not the cleanest of complexes.

Not only did Shane show me that correct weight lifting a few times a week was more effective for fat loss than loads of running, but he also showed me how wrong I was with regards to food! I pay £37 a month which gives me access to a fully equipped gym, fitness classes, sauna, sunbed and creche. There's a complete salon and spa too where you can get everything from massages, homeopathy, osteopathy and haircuts. I love the fact that you can receive all these services under one roof! The gym feels spacious although depending when you go the machines can get busy. The workout studio are lovely and big and there are tons of classes to choose from although they're £2. This still works out cheaper than, say, LA fitness and a lot more relaxed.
