Hungry for some good food, and with most Italian places around our hotel already fully booked, we walked in to the Esplanad at 20:00 last Saturday evening. The place has no fancy interior and is even a bit worn, looking a little like a mix between an English pub an a low-range restauran, very basic - very unassuming. We were immediately greeted very warmly, followed by absolutely fantastic service throughout our dinner. The starters (shrimp coctal and mozzarella toast) were made out of the freshest ingredients you can think of, and the mains (carbonara pasta, bolognese pasta) were amongst the best we've ever enjoyed. Big portions, and extremely reasonable prices. Many so-called fine-dining places would benefit from seeing how these basic courses should be prepared. This is a place propably loved by the locals, you walk in dressed as you are for beer or for take-away food. We, clearly out-of-town tourists, were recommended by the patron a good wine and then treated to humble perfection of good food and uncomplicated ambience throughout the evening. Based on our experience highly recommended. read more
