Here you can find Chimay beer along with some foods. They have an interactive tour here so you can learn a little bit more about the history of the abbey and Chimay. Buying the tour along with a drink sample gets you of course a drink, but it's also cheaper because of going through the tour. The tour is made of basically a walking in your with the past and history of Chimay. It's a small museum, but I enjoyed it. It shows pictures of the operations and the history of what happened with the beer. The one thing I wished was that the abbey had tours or at least a glass/plastic wall so people can see it happening. But again, I understand that the privacy is important. After the small tour, you can go and eat at the diner/cafe. They have cheeses that Chimay makes along with beers. I enjoyed it, but the visit to the abbey I thought was a little disappointing. But at least I can say that it is the oldest brewery that I have ever been to! read more

Since you can't actually try the beer (or even see some of the process) at the abbey, they have a restaurant here to try the beer and the cheese. You can walk from the abbey to the restaurant through the woods. There is a Chimay Experience which is a mini museum/exhibition. There are 2 prices. The more expensive ticket comes with a drink token for the restaurant. Is the whole Chimay experience (abbey, restaurant, shop, exhibition) worth it? Eh, personally not really. Chimay is one of my favorite Trappist beers. After viewing the Abbey where it is made, we drove down the road to partake in one of my favorite beers. And hey, some of the profits of Chimay goes to help the needy. The space here is set in a huge field with lovely views. If you have kids, they even have a playground. Random. The inside offers a brief 'museum' on the history and brewing process of the beer as well as some artifacts. The inside dining area is large, but it was really nice out so we went outdoors to the huge patio. We opted for the flight of 4 Chimays. At 8 euro, it's a steal because these are heavy pours. I ordered the salad and it was enormous. They have it listed as a 'side salad' but it was an entrée portion and absolutely outstanding. I'm not sure what the 'Chimay dressing' is, but I wish our waitress spoke English so I could've found out! Thinking I was getting a tiny salad, I also ordered the meatballs in the cheese sauce. Yowzas they were good. The cheese is also made by the monks and it is divine, which was a surprise because the previous trappist cheese I had elsewhere was not good at all. This is a must see if you are a beer aficionado such as us and the lunch we had was a great surprise! read more

Okay, so you have just visited Scourmont Abbey and are wandering where all the beer (and cheese) happen to be. Well, you happen to be in luck because just around the corner you have some large sheds that look suspiciously like a brewery and an outlet shop that also have a museum dedicated entirely to Chimay (if that happens to be your thing - I passed on it). Actually, it also happens to be a restaurant, though you can just sit there are drink beer (Chimay of course) if you're not in the mood for eating (though since it is pretty much out in the middle of the country it is probably best to make sure that you have a designated driver). However, as I mentioned, they sell a lot of Chimay related products, including bottle openers and glasses. If you are going to travel all the way to Scourmont to visit the brewery then you might as well stop off here for a beer, or some cheese. read more

This place is not the classic abbaye experience. But if you want to head in and experience the products produced locally this is a great stop. Beer and cheese are a great takeaway from here. The restaurant has plenty of seating and the wait staff is helpful. Its a great location with a scenic drive leading up to the grounds. read more

Chimay is famous for its Trappist beers yet unlike many breweries in Belgium, you cannot visit this one - only the church and grounds next to it. So a couple of years ago the brothers of the abbey opened up Espace Chimay, which is pretty much a nice little museum giving the history of the beer and how they are helping with their charities (profits from the beer sales) to support poor people and other good causes. This mini-museum is quite interesting although I feel that they could have done more with it, adding more displays and such. Well, that's probably just me but it is lacking in that department. There is also a cafe/restaurant which is pretty decent. You can of course drink the various types of Chimay beer in full glasses or even get a little sampler and try the blonde, bruin and bleu at the same time. I suggest that you have this with a plate of Chimay cheese. Yes, the monks make cheese too. The espace also has a store that sells lots of different Chimay products - things with the Chimay logo on them - as well as their beers, cheeses and even local bread. read more

This place was a bit too touristy for me. They had something called the Chimay Experience... don't do it, it's a big tourist trap. While it's not all that expensive it's also not worth it, it's very small and will only take you 10-15 minutes to go through. I would just go to the cafe and order a beer to try instead. The cafe is ok for tasting beer and maybe getting a snack but the food quality itself was nothing to write home about. It is possible to visit the actual abbey a bit further up the road but that is also not super exciting. read more
