Very knowledgeable on the history of the area which was awesome to hear about! Then we get on the river and with in minutes we were getting bites and having fun! We had about 50 combined hits and landed 3 beautiful native trout! Mark was kind, patient and very funny! On the way back up the river to the car, we encountered 2 other gentlemen fishing- but not having luck, Mark took the time to show them what to use and talk strategy. To me this is someone that loves to fly fish and wants to share his love of the sport with everyone. We felt his passion in the four hours we spent with him, and fell in love with the sport ourselves. We will no doubt fish with Mark again in the future!

The proprietor, Paul, was so gracious and informative. At the time, the Esopus was down , as were trout. He recommended rivers where we were actually staying, even showed us how to access them. He recommended flies and techniques. I've been out with a few guides here and there but this gentleman was off the charts superb and NICE! So nice, that we are returning in the Fall to go out with him on the Esopus. He is the kind of guide I look forward to being out with. Remember, I had not been out yet but can't wait.

My girlfriend and I spent a few hours here on a Sunday afternoon in May. If you rent a boat you can keep it out as long as you want, and you have access to the whole property for the entire day. We spent awhile in kayaks and had the whole lake to ourselves for the entire time. We then spent some time down at the swimming hole and had that to ourselves as well. Everyone who works there was incredibly friendly and helpful. Beautiful day overall and the perfect end to a perfect weekend getaway.

I loved this place. my friend introduced me to this place few years back and you are grantee to catch insane amount of fish. Best time to go is spring and late fall. But summer is ok if it has good water level. In average I catch about 10+ big mouth bass 2-3 lbs minimal, tones of pickerels, monster pan fish (I mean monster size).... I always stop counting after my first doz fish. Owner jack and his son are great people. You can even stay overnight in one of their cabins or trailer. Two years ago, I rented a house 5 min away for a week and went fishing every day at jack's place. I had to stop fishing in the end due to fishing elbow... LOL. I highly recommend this place for everyone. I love this place so much I bought a small boat just to go fishing here. I cant say enough good things about this place. A++++++++ apparently there is a 8 lbs bass in this water somewhere i am looking for that one every year... did i mention it also has channel cats...

We visited right after a heavy summer rainstorm so the trail right down to the falls was a bit hard to traverse (high water, slippery rocks, etc) but it was worth the treachery. But you don't have to hitch yourself down to get the full magic of these falls, you can also go for a slightly longer walk to see them at eye level. If you're visiting close to the Hudson area, a visit to the High Falls Conservation Area should be on your list! Then grab a drink in town.

While we were here, we saw staff removing tree roots that were impeding the campsite next to ours. I also appreciate that the DEC drives around and ensures that campers are abiding by the fire and bear safety rules and wish that other NYS parks did the same. There was SO much wildlife we saw just on the grounds - friendly deer, baby turkeys, and baby ducks. We were fortunate to have a few nights here without any neighbors and it was so serene and beautiful even in intense rain and fog. There are boat and canoe rentals on South Beach, and so many hiking trails that lead to breaktaking views. I really can't say enough good things about this campground and am already looking forward to our next trip here!
