We sent you a text message." I told her that I never received a message. Her response was, "Did you check your spam folder?" How am I supposed to know that my appointment has been canceled if the only notification is a text message that I never received? If a business is canceling an appointment, especially one that was scheduled in advance, I would expect clear communication. A phone call would have been the appropriate way to make sure I was actually notified. Instead, I drove to my appointment only to find out after arriving that it had been canceled. The front desk representative also did not make any real effort to resolve the situation. I was left feeling like my time did not matter. Very poor customer service and communication. I am extremely dissatisfied with my experience at LaserAway Novato and would warn other customers to confirm their appointments ahead of time, because apparently a cancellation text that may end up in your spam folder is considered sufficient communication.

From my very first phone call, consultation, follow-up emails, video calls, and scheduling, every single person has been attentive, efficient, kind, and incredibly responsive. Dr. Tom has surrounded himself with an amazing team. I never once felt forgotten, hurried, or like my questions were a bother. I had a conscious sedation, or "awake," tummy tuck with liposuction to my abdomen and flanks. Because we live out of the area, I had several calls and video visits with the office before surgery. By the time I arrived, I felt completely relaxed and well informed. My questions had been answered, my labs were complete, and I already had my medications in hand. The entire process was incredibly organized. Surgery day could not have gone more smoothly. I had no complications or complaints and was completely comfortable. I actually napped on and off throughout the procedure! The entire surgical team made me feel safe, relaxed, and very well cared for. The post-op care has been just as impressive. Dr. Tom personally stayed in contact with both my husband and me the day of surgery and the following day, and we were given his personal cell phone number in case we had any concerns or urgent needs. On my second night post-op, I developed a mild fever of 100.9°. My husband called Dr. Tom at 8:30 that evening, and he answered his cell phone immediately. He was incredibly kind and reassuring, talked us through what was happening, and gave us advice on what to do. Thankfully, everything was fine and it was simply my body reacting to everything it had been through. Dr. Tom then called the next morning to check on me and offered to have me come into the office if I wanted to be seen. That experience really drove home that when he gives you his personal number and tells you to call if you need him, he means it. I'm now post-op day five and am still receiving a daily text checking on my progress. That level of care means so much. And the results... WOW. I know I'm only five days post-op and several months away from seeing my final result, but I already could not be happier. I can see beautiful definition in my waist and a flat stomach, even this early in the healing process. For anyone wondering about my starting point, I'm 5'2", was 124 pounds going into surgery, and would consider myself to have an athletic build. My trouble areas have always been my "mom pouch" and love handles, where I tended to carry any extra weight. At 46 years young, I finally decided to do this as a gift to myself. I was thinking, "You're the one waxing, can't you tell me if I have them?!" But instead I just said, not sure. She was basically trying to sell me a product. The waxing experience was not really that terrific for me. It was hard getting hold of her via phone to make an appointment for one thing. Then when I made one, I arrived 15 minutes early only to see a sign on the door saying, "Please do not disturb. Facial in progress" and waited 25 minutes to be seen. A girl emerged from the room and I'm pretty sure she just had a wax, not a facial because Wendy was changing the paper lining that people lie down on. The paper lining should have been a good thing, but the old looking gross bed sheet that covers where people lie down that was under the new paper lining had hairs on it and just looked disgusting. She did an "okay" job but somehow missed a lot of areas and I'm not a lion! Not the greatest quality. And she double dips. I thought that independent, licensed cosmetologists usually follow the standards of using a different stick to place in the wax every time, but I guess I was proven wrong. That is a very unsanitary thing and it made me feel uncomfortable. Good thing I got a Groupon type deal and of course I tipped on the full amount to be nice, but I will not be returning.

She was silent for a while at the beginning and then started a VERY forced small talk. I tried to reciprocate by asking questions back, to which she gave mostly one word answers. She also really randomly started a bad sales pitch. ("Do you have problems with ingrown hairs?" "Not really." "I have a product that would really help with that." The no follow up.. I was the one who had to ask, well how does it work?) She was nice and all but really just awkward. She was kind enough to offer me some magazines she was about to throw away (nice.. I got my fix of trashy celeb news). And the room was nice, with brightly colored walls, decor, music, candles, etc. You feel like you're at a friend's house or something. All in all.. good wax. And I got it for $20 using my KGB deal. If you don't mind the awkwardness and feeling slightly uncomfortable, Wendy might be the person for you.
