When I was trying to pick a TEFL certification school - I was overwhelmed by the options... Don't be fooled by those schools that say you can learn online in a month and be ready to teach. You really need to learn this material in a class... and further - you have to actually put it into practice.
Lisa runs a great school where the teachers are teaching us how to teach English, using the methods that we are then to use in actual classrooms of students looking to learn English. This is a totally hands-on course where after the first week, I was put in a classroom situation and actually teaching (practicing of course) with a teacher observer making sure i didn't mess up. Each subsequent class I taught improved, as I slowly incorporated my new lessons from the morning class into the afternoon lesson that I was giving.
All of the teachers are helpful, patient, and make learning fun. This is a super-intensive course that has been kicking my ass for the past 3 weeks (almost done - yay!), but I feel completely prepared to go out and teach/tutor English.
Who knew that the first thing I'd do when I moved to Spain was to learn English... go figure. read more
