What is interesting is that with the laid back atmosphere, this place still delivered. What set this place apart from other locations is that you get to watch the instructions in the lobby before you enter the room. I feel this made for a better experience as we weren't crammed with our heads pointed upwards at a screen. We chose the Poltergeist room by looking at the website. We had no prior knowledge of the room, but it sounded fun to do. Once we got done with the instruction video we were led back to the room. Given a few reminders of the instruction video and set free in the room. What lacked here was the unenthusiastic interaction from the staff. I understand that they probably get bored a lot, but there was so much monotone in the voice. Once in the room, we kind of went through the motions and slowly figured out puzzle after puzzle. If you are afraid of the dark, this might not be the room for you, as you start in a nearly dark room, and it is a small, one room escape room. If you are a fan of Ghostbuster, you definitely need to try this room. The satisfaction you get from solving puzzle after puzzle and, if you are lucky, the final puzzle definitely gives you a feeling of accomplishment. However, if you are stumped at any time throughout the timeframe, you will hear a knock on the door and a clue will slide under to guide you along your way. Some things are kind of oddly put together, but some things, you might be able to skip on through. We kind of did that on a few things and ended up with almost ten minutes to spare when we completed the room. If you complete the room, they offer to take your pictures. And they post it to their Facebook page within a few days.

However, where I was disappointed was the actual room. I am use to elaborately decorated rooms with lots going on. This room was not. It was basic but difficult. We…read moreloved the Heist; it was challenging, had fantastic puzzles, and gave all of us things to work on simultaneously. It was a ton of fun. While the Bunker room was well designed and clean, it was SO linear that only one or two of us could really work on anything at a time. So the other two or three of us would just watch the active player. The really difficult aspects involved math puzzles, which might be harder for people who don't help their kids with algebra homework or happen to teach middle school math. Overall we were underwhelmed with this particular room, which is unfortunate since the actual puzzles in it were solid. If they could add more to it, multiple things going on at the same time, It would be more fun for groups of more than 2.

It's fun to take the kids to for a few hours or just stop in for a game or 2. This also creates a nice balance of people just handing their 20 tickets to cute kids in there and making children's day because they just wanted to play a game or 2, not earn prizes. My kids have gotten extra tickets from nice strangers on multiple occasions. There are definitely nicer arcades in the area, but they are not the boardwalk and they are usually more expensive. Because it's the boardwalk, it feels a little used and abused. All of this aside, you won't find a better arcade on the boardwalk and it's air conditioned. Let me say that again, air conditioned on hot summer days! Go, have some fun, enjoy the games and this boardwalk staple establishment.

When we got up to the counter, the staff member said, I don't know if I can sell you a wrist band because it's after 10. (Now it's probably 10:05, but we were there and in line with an hour to spare... Also, what does it matter? Your business is still getting a full hours charge out of us even though we aren't getting a full hour of fun.) After wasting time to decide if she could sell us the wristbands, we were on our way to ride and have fun. But probably 10 minutes to 11, they start closing rides and doing maintenance. So some tracks were already closed. I wouldn't do it as a late night fun thing again. But we do enjoy the place otherwise.

When approached, the man who was working said he had no idea what happened when I mentioned what happened. Never mind the fact that several dog walkers/handlers brought in at a minimum 10 large breed dogs into an arcade. There were three workers at the counter at the entrance. Why would you allow that many dogs into an arcade?!!! I can understand therapy dogs, a dog in training, or a small dog, but this was a pack of large breed dogs. Two of them were pitbulls and the girl handling them obviously had no control. Unsafe environment by allowing people to bring in packs of dogs (whether in training or not).

It was worth the trip and something we'll be talking about for a long time! My only tiny disappointment was finding out afterward that they were offering a discount for Oceans Calling attendees. I definitely wish we had known about that before we went, but it is what it is--and it certainly didn't take away from how incredible the experience was.
