Our first escape room, we were told by a gentleman working there to "not scream into the camera and give him a second to respond" well the last 30 minutes of the game he peaced out. At some point during this 30 minute struggle one of the women working clearly felt bad for us and gave us a hint stating "if you were my room this would be how I'd help you". 30 seconds before our time is up Cam's back! Little late. $400 for broken tvs and a "gamemaster" to disappear for half the hour. When he came in he said something like "I had to go do something else" no apology, accountability, and he didn't show us the final room of the game. We feel like we would have solved it with some guidance, a scammy first and last escape room experience. read more

I've never been compelled to write out a "bad" review of a business because I understand that things can go wrong and mistakes often happen, and that it's never personal/intentional. However, my experience here has left me feeling like I should let people know about how terrible my time was here and how poorly I was treated. First of all, their website does not allow people to purchase just 1 ticket. My friends and I had to reserve in 3 different groups where we just venmoed each other back. No big deal. However, I attempted to call to buy the remainder of the tickets at 50% off for a "private" experience. I was told this was impossible because there was 2 other groups already in the room. When I explained that these were my friends and we all had to purchase this way I was basically given the equivalent to a shoulder shrug and was told to do it differently next time. Again, sure, no big deal. Day of, there was an event happening down town that resulted in gridlock traffic and full parking garages. I called the location (at 3:30 pm) with my friends in the car to let the manager know everyone was going to be late to the 4:00 time slot. The "manager" was kind enough to be understanding and even mentioned that he too had trouble finding a place to park before he got to work. He offered up the 5:30 slot to the same room in case we could not make it in and said that he would call around 5 to see where we were at in our parking situation. Everyone remembers this but he would later argue that he did not say this. My friends and I waited across the street at pink shark for that call but never got it. So, we walked over at 5:20 and made it there within minutes. No one greeted us as we walked in as well as it was hot and unkempt in the lobby. When someone finally did come out, she informed us that we could not have the 5:30 room as we had not called back to reserve it. We let the girl know of the phone call with her manager and also asked if the room was even rented out at 5:30. It was not. She let us know that since we weren't there 5 minutes before 5:30 (we were) that the room had already closed and there was nothing they could do about it. Fast forward, we spoke to the manager about all of this. (He was condescending and rude AND lied about not offering the 5:30 slot) we did not receive an apology or any sort of customer service but were given a different room in a different time slot. The room itself was falling apart and needed some maintenance. Again, it was very warm in there, and this is in December! The game goes on and we get to the final step which is a safe. We worked on that safe for at least 15 of our last 20 minutes and could not get it to open despite following the instructions. The game operator came over the speaker asking us if we wanted her to come in and open it since we had been at it for so long. We said yes and she came in with 2 mins left on our game clock. She ALSO could not get it to open. We couldn't wait around any longer because we had dinner reservations elsewhere and we were simply wasting our time by standing there and watching her struggle with the game piece. After all of this we still did not receive an apology for the misunderstanding or the faulty room they put us in. In fact, the young lady came out and said "don't talk about the room out loud here because the next group is right there." ????????????????? Never EVER book here. These kids are overworked, underpaid, and are upholding the scammy rules put in place by corporate. Had we not made a bit of a fuss I'm sure they would have kept our money and not let us in ANY room but you know, I can't prove that. My friends came in from Austin and all over San Antonio just to waste their time and money here. It was humiliating and I have not stopped apologizing since. Do not make the same mistake as me and LISTEN to the poor reviews on here. DO NOT BOOK HERE!!! read more

Now, I was skeptical to come and check this place out due to reviews I've seen. Saw something along the lines of ... No help was ever received, No one there to let people in... I quickly learned that time slots disappeared the longer I procrastinated. Tickets purchased... fingers, toes, and eyes crossed to have a splendid experience. There are 3 escape rooms which all have their own theme and you and your group have 60 minutes to figure it out. I knew I had to get their 10-15 mins prior to fill out waiver forms. Our person, I didn't get his name, but he was FAN-FRIGGIN-TASTIC! We had four people, but could be up to 10 (just might be a bit tight). In THE AGENCY room, we had to find keys, codes, secrets doors/drawers, LASERS, maps... a plethora of information. (Just can't record or take photographs) When it was our turn, our unique storyline was explained (pay attention) The first 10-15mins, you're to figure stuff out on your own, unable to ask for help until that time has passed. Once asked, we received our first clue! Yay!!! I bet your wondering "well did ya make it?" No, I'm not exactly sure if our time ran out or if my son "tripped a wire" so to speak... we will make another attempt to do something like this again. No regrets from this gal! read more

Ace helped me and my family today at this location. We set a reservation and came in, the area had an old style with the building i'm not to fond of it but it was unique. Rules were specific and explained clearly which I liked. The Escape room we chose was the Western Bank Heist. it was well, had some difficulty. We didn't finish the game the first time. We have done over 25 escape rooms for context. Pros: This was a great looking room. Very detailed. Cons: the clues didn't always guide very well . Several of the clues opened compartments that didn't open easily so we didn't realized we had even solved the clue right away. One of the final clues was actually clearly marked, but all 4 of us couldn't get the clue to open. The game master paused our game and tried 4 times unsuccessfully to help get that next clue for us. He never got it open and asked if we could just move to the next part of solving the room after telling us what that clue did. There was some automatic sound instructions that I couldn't hear as well. Changed to one star as the safe has been broken for awhile from reviews. That's totally unacceptable to keep having us pay to do a room with a broken prop so important to finishing the game. Shame on me for not checking reviews. Shame on you for not fixing this problem. Money grab on tourists. I put in a complaint with the GM. He first said if the gamemaster refused to open the safe but since we got out we he couldn't. He didn't refuse to open it he couldn't open it. He tried for several minutes. He stopped our time with under 3 minutes to go and then tried for 7-8 minutes to get the safe open before moving on. I am shocked at such a poor level of game play and then customer service. The other rooms may be fine but please don't play this room. read more

So much fun! That's all I need to say! We did the agency room and it was so complex but still provided so much entertainment for us. They had multiple rooms within the agency, 3 rooms, while other escape rooms only usually have one physical room per chosen theme. The staff was super nice and they helped us out when we were stuck. We finished with 5 minutes left which might we slow but we still were entertained for a long time, 55 minutes. Definitely recommend if you are around San Antonio especially downtown! read more

We did The Agency. The room and puzzle were okay but our puzzle master did not seem to be paying any attention at all. I don't know if he was working multiple rooms or playing on his phone but several times we asked for hints looking directly at the camera and there was just silence. Then when he did give a hint he always had to ask us what part we were on like he hadn't been paying attention. Puzzle masters can make or break the experience...this dude broke ours. Also they had a rule where we could only ask for a hint every 10 minutes. We were only 2 people and the hints we were given were pretty vague. We didn't want him to tell us the answers but I feel like there we missed opportunities to guide us. We left unhappy. read more

Myself and 3 friends booked an escape room for the Anubis theme. We throughly had a terrible experience in all ways possible. First entering the venue we were hit with about 90 degree temps. We went at 9pm in April and we were sweating THE ENTIRE TIME. There doesn't seem to be any ac and the fans did not exist within the room. The customer service wasn't unfriendly or mean, but I would say I definitely did not feel welcomed. The intro before the room was rushed, even though there may have only been one other group in the venue. The intro theme was lackluster. Starting the room was fine except quite literally every single puzzle did not work. Everything was mag release and quite literally every door/drawer/hidden spot stayed shut after retrying every answer. This required numerous calls to be made to the worker. Not only did this waste our time but it also caused us to overthink and rethink every puzzle. One of the puzzles was already solved when we entered the room and caused us to waste a lot of time and cause confusion for all us. The entire experience was made whole when the final puzzle did not work and the employee entered the room saying "you won". It was very anticlimactic. However, I guess we got the true Egyptian experience; nothing worked, it was hot as shit, and our money was taken from us and the product was a ripoff. TLDR: Western Bank Heist props are broken/malfunctioning and customer service from the staff doesn't exist. The staff are rude and operate a game that doesn't work properly and then won't refund or even apologize for the issues. Awful final experience at an outdated and broken game. This is the 3rd escape room we've done here. The first {The Agency} was fun. Room was interesting and even though we didn't get out, it was fun, modern and challenging. That's why this review has 2 stars instead of 1. The second was iffy {The Dig} because the people assigned to the room with us were very intoxicated. We were surprised staff allowed them to participate, but we ended up having an okay time. That leads us to the finally room {Western Bank Heist} which we played today. The game is outdated and the props seem to be broken. Despite being non-linear and not very exciting, in general, the issue was the puzzles/locks don't work. One requires a specific set of information which is printed very small and the right answer is only found at the top of a clue (unacceptable for kids/short people/people with poor eyesight, etc). The biggest issue was the safe. The "key" to unlock it didn't work properly and after struggling for 10 minutes to get the prop to work, we were told "the wires don't matter" so we continues to struggle and try to find different ways to make it work - we finally decided that with a clearly apathetic and unhelpful game master, that continuing the game was pointless. The game master, Calvin, is also difficult to understand because he mumbled. His clues aren't really helpful and he'll let you struggle for a significant period of time before he'll answer, even if you repeatedly ask for help. Basically, he just ignores you as time ticks away. We'd wasted so much time and nothing was working. We walked out of the room with time still on the clock. The game master would have let us walk out of the building without even asking what was wrong or why we left the room without finishing. We had to point out the problems in the room and then show him the broken prop. He couldn't have cared less about our poor experience. I asked for a contact email to resolve the issue. There isn't one. I asked for a phone number or manager to speak with someone about it, since the experience was SO bad and customer service was non existent. He said the manager, Cam, was in the control room with him (so clearly he'd heard our concerns and didn't even bother to turn around and help address the issue or come speak to us.) when I asked him to discuss the issue, he basically insinuated nothing was wrong and no one had ever complained about the prop before (even though he admitted the last one broke and this was a new prop). He stood there, petulantly rolling his eyes snd cracking his knuckles, then shrugged when I asked about the poor customer service. He finally offered us extra time in the room but we declined, since the props don't work effectively. Why try to play a game when nothing works as it should? Looking over other reviews for this game, it's clear we are NOT the only people who have had this issue and it's obvious the owners don't care to fix/update their broken room or address their appalling staff attitude. I came here today, Dec 29, at 4:30pm for the western bank heist with my boyfriend's family. We were all first time escapers, and had no expectations other than to have a good time. The young female employee who greeted us could've used more energy, but was overall professional and decent to us. She explained everything and gave us hints up until halfway through our experience. All of a sudden, a young male employee (dark curly hair and glasses) hopped on the intercom with the most patronizing attitude. He started off with, "Why don't you tell me what you DO understand" and "I told you this already." He even went as far as to cut us off when we were talking to him just so he could assert power and be defensive. We weren't a rambunctious group. We followed the simple rules they provided, as we are respectful people. Speaking to a mother and family like this is completely unacceptable. He alone is reason to never recommend this place. His rudeness and carelessness continued outside the room when we told him the dynamite lever didn't work until we did it like 8 times. He didn't care at all. He gaslit us about the journal that contained the combination as well. When we asked him where to leave a review, he said not to leave one on the website, and that they used to have a QR code in person but got rid of it for "some reason." HE is the reason lol. Awful employee, and as someone who has worked a bunch of customer service jobs - fire him. Not worth him bringing down future business. We all have had jobs that can test our patience. He very clearly hates his job and will take it out on the you. read more

The rooms are so unorganized It is very hard to follow. We arrived to be greeted by a woman cleaning the bathrooms and was very unwelcoming. The game master spent the instruction time yelling us not to break anything He ran through the scenario in fast forward wearing a mask. We were so afraid to touch anything we missed half the clues. He never explained that you had to use multiple items over again including keys and numbers. You had to drag stuff from room to room. Very disappointing experience. Showed up after booking days in advance, was told upon arrival that my booking had to be changed to one of their other themes due to issues. We changed it and was warned it was hot and no A/C but we would be provided with water. We started the escape, no water was provided. We wasted 15 minutes in the first section, they took one of our clues and allowed us to progress to the next room. Upon completion....which we didn't finish, we found out that they improperly reset the room and there was no way possible to progress and we wasted 14 minutes in the first room because they didn't provide the key that was supposed to be there. My family and I have done many many escape rooms but I will not be coming back here. The western heist room had the potential to be super cool, the decor is very cool. However half the puzzles are worn out and don't work right. We spent our last 15 minutes struggling when we had the code and would have finished in plenty of time. Pros - our group did the agency room, and it was a lot of fun! - the clue master didn't give us too many hints, which made sense since we got out with 15 minutes to spare - the room was well organized and the puzzles lined up nicely in solving each step - I loved the signs and props they provided at the end for our group picture! They also conveniently emailed and/or texted it to all of us after, so we didn't have to bother asking the lady to take the photo for us on multiple phones Cons - they don't validate parking, so expect to pay a minimum of $6 for parking in the area - we signed up for a 10pm escape room, but we were delayed in starting (which ended up costing us another hour for parking) read more

I came to play with my family while I'm visiting. We play many escape rooms it's a thing we do. First and foremost the staff was friendly. Our game hostess seemed to be doing all the work with different groups not just ours and her co worker seemed not to be doing much. He first came out. Asked us to do waivers and then we never saw him again. Not to mention we were early and did our waivers. We had to park down the street and pay for parking. We had tried to call but the line was no longer connected. Now to the actual room. It didn't seem very well put together. We played the dig at this location. By far the worst escape room I've ever played. None of the items made sense. It was very confusing for a game that seemed like it was somewhat linear. When we first got in the room we were told their speakers weren't working so when we wanted a hint we had to wait 2-3 minutes for our game master to show up in the room and give us an in person hint. We had lost valuable time waiting for these hints. We had to decide right then and there if we wanted hints or not. A few of the props weren't working in the room and at the very end of the game when we had about 5 minutes left we had asked for a hint our game host didn't get in until about 2 minutes remaining in the game and said "sorry for the wait I was with another group and my co worker is apparently in a different dimension" she helped us on our last puzzle. We completed the game with a minute and 7 seconds left. We got our picture taken through our phones, then we got an email saying we didn't escape. Many of our hints took about 2-3 minutes to get so we were standing around waiting. One of the props that was crucial to the end didn't work and did not help at all. Outside of our hostess being super nice and doing everything on her own this escape room was poorly designed, falling apart, and a big disappointment. read more

A lot of thought went into the 'Agency'! Our assistant Zippora, was delightful; she explained things very well. I've done a couple dozen escape rooms and thus was unfortunately the worst experience I've had. The big issue was that our clue master was not actually watching us or available to give us hints. We would ask and no one was there for minutes at a time. We had to leave the room to find out that he was helping other groups get checked in. This was super frustrating. There were other minor things but when your paying hundreds of dollars for 60 minutes, that person should be available the entire time. I would not go back. read more

Western Bank Heist: If I could give them no stars I would. Save your money. We would have been out with 20 minutes left but the safe wouldn't open despite having the correct combination. After we "failed" we had the worker and the manager come in and neither could open it until one of them violently shook the combination, about 7 tries later. Dig Room - fun! The puzzles are difficult but doable. Two of us are veteran escape/breakout room goers so we finished in record time. This location is more pricy than the competition but very much a challenge. However, for the price, I must encourage trying other locations in San Antonio first. This one is still experiencing a learning curve with staff. The Game Master for us was not attentive and surprised when we won. We had to explain to her our discoveries and show her the key to the exit button box. Not cool. She should have been monitoring the entire event. The clues we asked for came too late demonstrating that no one was watching the monitors during our game. This is far less professional than any other escape/breakout room we have visited. Our advice: save Escape the Room San Antonio as a final challenge after completing all other escape/breakout rooms in the area. You will be glad you did! read more

It was my first time here, so I wasn't expecting much and I had no ideas how it worked. I assumed it was like a linear type game where a clue takes you to the next and so on and the clues would be pretty obvious. BUT I WAS WRONG! We did the Bank scenario and it blew my mind! There we started in one room and needed to get into a locked one and all the clues were very tricky but super fun to find! I loved that each clue was not obvious and you had to go from one room to the other to find stuff! Definitely got our blood pumping when we reached the 45 minute mark Anyway I'm totally coming back for the other 2 scenarios! Only downsides were no parking and for some people the price. It ended up being $34 per person for an hour. read more

We wanted to like this place and gave it two good tries. Me and my boyfriend have done a lot of escape rooms and have come across many different puzzles and mysteries. This place seems like it would run very well if the props worked properly or weren't so precise that it won't work unless you know the specific way to do it and there's no directions on the specific way. I haven't had issues with the game masters in fact I asked for help and they came in promptly. It's more so the actual bugs in the games. They also have different clues that don't always align or lead you down a rabbit hole that isn't actually helpful to get out of the game. I know every escape room is different but generally I would love to see this place grow in terms updating their props as well as creating a more cohesive puzzle. If you have a puzzle that leads you off course, maybe incorporate it somehow into the game itself. Consider beta testing! If an experienced team can't comprehend the puzzles to escape maybe change the puzzle slightly to maintain difficulty but also make it attainable. It isn't a bad place, just be aware that updates to games may be needed and ask for help if you need. They will pause the game and help if you can't figure it out. read more
