Located this one to occupy an afternoon while waiting for a flight. The theme of the room is based on Edinburgh's grave robber past. The experience is immersive and maintains a nice atmosphere. The room itself is well put together and maintained. The puzzles make sense and are medium difficultly. The puzzles are somewhat linear but there is enough there to keep 3-4 people busy throughout. This room is fun and worth the visit. The setup is private so no strangers will be joining you. If you're looking for a little fun diversion or an escape room unique to the locale this is a good one.

We arrived for our reservation, the staff pointed at a table and got us to seat ourselves, then told us which drinks were not available. With a rather limited menu, it really is hugely disappointing when two of the drinks aren't available. You pay for your drinks in advance when you book your reservation so we couldn't leave even though my daughters couldn't get the drinks they had planned on. Then they brought all three drinks to us at the same time, advised us to make them all at the same time immediately because the dry ice wouldn't last. These drinks have multiple steps to create. Spoiler alert, if you go with kids and have to help them with their drinks, your drink will be wasted like mine was. The only thing that happened with my drink was it changed a slight different colour because by the time I got to it the dry ice was gone. They really should offer parents with young children the choice of getting their drinks a few minutes later if things need to be mixed immediately and kids need help reading and following the instructions. Neither of my daughters liked the taste of their drinks (they described it as tasting like Tylenol medicine) and I would rate mine as only "okay". We sat next to a wonderful young couple from Switzerland and they were trying to watch us do our drinks since their drinks failed and did nothing. Their spoken English was perfect but they said they had problems reading some of the instructions, couldn't get help, and therefore ended up making mistakes with the order in which to mix things. The couple were so sweet about it but they were every bit as disappointed as we were and also thought the taste wasn't very good. Then near the end of the visit, we were told "we had 15 minutes left in our reservation and to please get ready to leave now" so I stood up immediately and we left my drink unfinished (which to be honest I'm not too sad about). It's a shame because the place has potential and if the waitress had even introduced herself or been friendly in anyway we would have had a much better time. It's a cute space, the concept of it is amazing, but the staff should be friendlier (she is the only person I have met in Edinburgh that hasn't been friendly). Overall an extremely disappointing experience. The only disappointment and rude/rushed service we have had in our two weeks here in Edinburgh. When they brought the shot glass drinks out in a chest full of dry ice, it looked really cool and that was the only part we enjoyed. I suggest saving your money and just buy some dry ice instead.

For the Magic Potions Tavern, you can book a Magic Potion and Shot experience where you can choose from around 8 different "potions" (drink) options and a few shots. Then, you receive laminated potion directions and essentially mix your own drink and watch as it smokes with dry ice (which is essentially the only cool part about it.) The drinks ended up being *not great*--and super basic. The Herbology 101 was pretty much just muddled raspberries, vodka and lemon juice with bits of flower candy that tasted like chalk, and the Potion No. 9 was basically just purple sparkly gin. The shots tasted god awful. As someone who loves a gimmick, this is great for a day of Harry Potter exploration if you want something cool to post on your Instagram story. If you're looking for great drinks and service, go literally anywhere else. :/

There…read moreare several escape rooms in Edinburgh and this place I've learned has several different names on line and is very confusing. So I'm making this simple for those who like Escape Rooms. I will post photos and my experience when I have more time. Some persons here call it Escape, other Escape Game Room and lastly Escape Edinburgh. Others have posted just the exact mission they are trying to escape. We are doing Houdini's Workshop. Total cost was just 55 pounds for 3 persons with a 11 VAT charge. 66 total. A good deal. We arrived 30 minutes early and they let us start early. We finished with just 1 min 30 seconds. They don't have timers in the room. The Houdini was very fun with a lot of locks and tricks. Highly suggest it. Matthew who helped plus was very good. I would come here again. One of the best Escape rooms we have ever done in any country. It's inside a place with other Escape Games and Game of Throwing, aka Axe Throwing. It's across the street from Sainsbury's Local, a grocery store and under this coffee sign. See the photos. $7 taxi ride from the area of the Edinburgh Castle or about a mile walk for 20 minutes.

If in doubt, they will pick you up in the lobby of the University building and bring you to the lobby area. They are located in Summerhall, which is Edinburgh's old veterinarian school. Watch our YouTube video to see how many "tunnels" we had to go through to find their hidden spot. But once you find it, you will not be disappointed! Locked in Edinburgh is owned by two female owners who are enthusiast themselves and have played many escape rooms. We were amazed at what they have done with the space as they pretty much utilized there surroundings (since this building has hundred years of history) and created the storylines based on them. For instance, their control room had square spaces that were kennels for pets, but they are working stations for their game masters now. How clever! Our game master got in to character right away when she led us to the waiting area. We were agents being sent into a serial killer's laboratory to find evidence and the missing organs of the 5 new victims as we must save their lives. Even though there were no live actors involved, the sound, the visual, and the eerie atmosphere were already good enough to put me in a terrified condition. Right when we entered, we realized that there was a lot to do. This is their hardest room and for two people it was definitely challenging. We would suggest at least four people to tackle this room. There was a lot of unique puzzles and props that we haven't seen before, and we loved the ideas and how it was incorporated into the story line. It felt very real what we were doing in this room versus just playing a game. We are always happy when there's misdirection in what we expect to be a "surprise", is actually elsewhere. Since we've played a handful of games, if the room isn't made well, it's pretty easy to figure out where the "surprise" might be. One thing I did feel that could be improved is that typing in the clue and receiving an answer was slowing down the game a bit. I wonder if there's another possible way to receive the clues. We also refrained from asking for a clue in the beginning, which in this room we should have just kept moving especially with two people. We ended up not being able to escape in time, but we did get to see the game until the end. Despite being able to successfully escape, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves a lot for this room's design and originality. Currently there's two other rooms at the location: "The Distillery" and "The Secret Lab". The designs for both are amazing as we took a sneak peak (which you'll be able to see also in our YouTube video). The cafe makes a great decaf soy latte - and the views of the climbing walls are fantastic from the cafe. The lockerrooms are pretty nice - clean and lots of space (no bumping into people as you change or access a locker). The coin-return system used by the Edinburgh Royal Commonwealth recreation system is great - just leaves you with a key to keep track of though (at the Royal Commonwealth pool - the key is on a bracelet). The climbing gym itself is huge - I wasn't prepared for this from the pictures - there's no way to do it justice. The 25 m wall just goes on and on! There are walls that are at a slope (like slab climbing) and corner problems with shelves for mantling and problems you have to jump onto - which we don't really have at my local climbing gym chain (Touchstone). The materials used for the walls and the jugs/pieces are much more abrasive than what we have at my local gyms (though ours could just be worn). Everything is color coded as well - you have a climb with all the same color pieces -- it's much simpler that way, though at night - the kind of lights they turn on make all the red-colors blend together (ie, is that purple or red? I can't tell now that the lights are on!). The ropes they use are different, too - esp on the 25m top rope routes - much stiffer (for obvious reasons) and overall, the ropes all seemed to be heavier and stiffer. If you're used to having to "prove" you know how to belay - EICA just has you sign a waiver that says "I'm a grown up and I know what I'm doing and won't sue you if I'm an idiot" - no belay test, no belay card - have at it, kiddies! On this visit, I didn't get to try any of the outdoor climbing - but I'll work on my lead climbing classes and certifications this winter so I can travel and climb outdoors more next year. I hope to visit England again - and want to see more climbing gyms - I've heard there are some in old churches (ie, crazy high walls and indoors).

Lots of space inside and outside for parking. There is a cafeteria where you can eat, converse and indulge. I am sure they are offer memberships, so why not give it a try. Just one thing - you might need a car to get there. Not sure about the public transport as its a bit outside of Edinburgh , near Ratho Station.
