This update is especially for you, Lillian, a former patient at the Mercy Center Nursing Home in Dallas, Pennsylvania. Der Bingle and Kayla brought great comfort to wheelchair-bound Lillian during her last Christmas and New Years. I'm not gonna get into personal details, her family and the staff at Mercy know what happened, and I haven't requested permission to be more explicit. Now that years have passed since my initial review, Escalada's first, I've had the opportunity to read with great interest other people's experiences with the gentleman. To say mine is an outlier from every other reviewer over such a long time is an understatement. So much so, in fact, I now conclude Escalada intentionally harmed my dogs and gave me, Bing and Kayla not merely disparate treatment, but conduct that now, in hindsight, raised to the level of animal cruelty on multiple counts. There's more to the story that I didn't post because it's too disgusting, but Escalada knows what he did. I just don't know why he did it. Lillian aside, these World Class Shepherds literally saved lives, well into double figures if I include a drug-induced psychiatric event der Bingle intervened with and stopped. It involved a closed-off street, multiple deputies, a Sheriff's helicopter 5-feet above the subject's rooftop, two deputies in my house, one with a shotgun, a ten year-old girl I never met before, a "hit list" she found, took, came to me for protection, and a cache of weapons in the subject's home. A deputy tried to get the list from the girl - Bing wouldn't let him anywhere near her. The deputy asked me if Bing knew her. When I told him no, the only thing the deputy said was "WOW! That's really cool." and backed off. Bing let the girl give the list to a neighbor he knew that joined us before the Sheriff arrived on scene and she gave the list to the deputy. The girl's family lived several hours away and der Bingle never left her side until they arrived. I found out about the weapons from the first on-scene Sheriff's deputy after the fact. When Bing refused to let him, all 300 plus pounds of him, near the girl, his daughter, by the way, he was going into his house to arm himself to come after Bing, the girl, me, when the first patrol car pulled up. He ran inside, barricaded himself, and a stand-off ensued for hours. We were unknowingly minutes from disaster in the intensity of the initial encounter. They also changed many lives, including one in Bartlesville, Oklahoma who was terrified of German Shepherds before he met my two. He ended up crying, enveloped on the floor with 165 lean pounds of GSD at 1 o'clock in the morning, 70 lb Kayla comfortably cuddled in his lap as he pet her. Bing, he was a leaner, placed his considerable chin on the guy's shoulder - and leaned in, of course. Never saw the young man before or since. I coaxed him to join us, talked him through how to approach them, and the dogs did the rest. Especially Kayla. Should've named her "Bubbles". And visited the aged in the Mercy Center when my mom was there. Her room was maybe a hundred feet from the entrance and it frequently took me an hour to get to her as they did the "Ole Shepherd Schmooze" with patients who came out of, or occasionally brought out of, their rooms to visit. Nearly daily. It became an event! Went on for probably more than a year. It was a true joy to watch every one of them interact with Bing and Kayla. They were never certified therapy dogs, just who they were. Lillian in particular, between Christmas and New Years, was the most special of all. Der Bingle and Kayla May deserved considerably better during their time of need than they got from you, Escalada. Simon Escalada, DVM, you violated ARS 13-2910 multiple times. "Under ARS 13-2910, a person commits cruelty to animals if the person...(i)ntentionally, knowingly or recklessly fails to provide medical attention necessary to prevent protracted suffering to any animal under the person's custody or control." Tl/dr: Escalada is old school, but he has a new younger veterinarian in his office and I'll never go anywhere else. Posting this because not many people give positive reviews these days. And for the negative review about parvovirus, parvo is found in the SOIL! Get your dog vaxxed! We have been taking our various farm & house dogs to Dr Simon Escalada for around 15 years. They've done X-rays, surgery, flushed stomachs, vaccines; I can't remember everything. He's even helped me diagnose a dairy cow over the phone at 10pm, which saved my cow from death. I had already had the emergency vet/cow/med supplies on hand because NO vet in southern AZ will make a house call or even call you back for a dairy cow, but Escalada took the time (30 minutes!) late at night and properly diagnosed her and told me what to do and how to do it! His office won't see cattle, so don't try; I'm just testifying to Escaladas love and care over the years. My dogs hate going to town, but they love his office. There's also a new veterinarian in his office now who will probably take over once Escalada retires (?) She's also amazing! She's attentive, assertive, extremely knowledgeable, professional, and she even told me I could call her on her mobile phone if my Mastiff's situation got worse. Escalada and his staff have properly diagnosed all of them with their varied issues. His loving office, including the sweet gal at the front desk, made it possible for me to take in a GSD junk yard dog the day we rescued her. She was near death, couldn't walk, and they had to try pretty hard to draw her blood because she was so dehydrated and anemic. But they gave me a copy of the lab results, set me up with liquid vitamins, antibiotics, bathed her, gifted me with 3 days worth of prescription dog food, and so much more. Stella, the GSD rescue, was finally walking again after a week and could run and jump after 3 weeks. We decided to keep her and although she hates and fears men because she was being abused by employees/men in the Tucson junk yard area she gives Escalada kisses at every visit. I'm actually headed to Escalada's office today with our weiner dog. I have been to so many vet offices in Tucson and Sierra Vista over the last 20 years and you will not find a more loving, attentive, available veterinarian's office! read more

What I like about Nogales Vet Clinic: Dr. Escalada the ability to make a timely appointment the reasonable fees what I have had problems with: the last time I tried to reach the office by phone, about one month ago to cancel an existing appointment, there was no answer followed by an automated request for my "remote access code" and then a disconnect. Today I had the same problem. I have been unable to phone for an appointment. I'm beginning to wonder whether they are out of business. read more

Great Dr. Quick and correct exam. Found the problem right away, was very personable and the fees are painless.

My vet was out for the day and I had an emergency with one of my dogs. My 7# chi swallowed a Motrin I dropped on the floor. I called this vet and let them know I'd been in contact with animal poison control and they said to bring him right in. We worked with animal poison control to develop a care plan to help my little pup heal and feel better. We were both treated with kindness. In reading the one negative review, I would like to mention most cases of Parvo are prevented with a vaccine. This disease is highly contagious and spread through contact with feces. read more

The receptionist at the front desk "Rosie" is very unprofessional. We had to take our Shepard in for a procedure and she is the armpit of this business. We have used Escalada services for many years and unfortunately, due to this individual, we will not return. She is rude, loud, disrespectful and doesn't seem to care about this practice. I spoke personally with the doctor, who explained that they are short staff and behind due to the impact of the Covid. Understandable as I have used his services for over 15 years. What's not understandable is the way this individual at the front desk treats clients. Perhaps we got her on "one of those days" but just keep in mind... doesn't make it right. FYI, we were told to drop off our boy at 9am and pickup at 430. When we arrived at 430, we were told by Rosie he was just about to be sedated. 45 minutes later and after words with her on how professional she really was, our boy was released to us. He was still in a sedated state with his tongue hanging out and droopy face. Not one of this businesses best moments.... Overall, we love doctor Escalada for all his knowledge and kindness. The lady at the front has to be re evaluated on how this place is ran and how clients are greeted. She obviously has some personal issues she needs to work out and unfortunately is taking the business name with her on her rampage. 5 stars for Doctor E. - he is fantasy 0 stars for front desk staff Pretty sad that we were already stressed about our boy and his procedure and then have to deal with the front desk lady. Nothing but good to say regarding Dr. Escalada. Just a good old vet who is extremely knowledgeable and doesn't just push pharmaceuticals. Supplements and common sense approach was used for a cat suffering from advanced kidney disease and his knowledge turned the cats health around for quite some time. 5 stars for the Doc! read more

I'm glad some things never change. My family has been bringing our pets to Dr. Simon Escalada since 1976. While in college, I even brought my dog all the way from Flagstaff for him to examine. I moved away in 1991, but my mom continued to use Dr. Escalada and has always been happy with him. I just moved back 2 weeks ago and had to take my senior dog in for an injury. As always, Dr. Escalada was strait forward, no fuss, no muss, no expensive x-rays, testing, etc. He offers both expensive and inexpensive solutions. He understands that not everyone one has lots of money to spend on their pets. He also looks at quality of life versus quantity and has always had the animals best interest at heart. I can't tell you how many pets he has helped our family with or how many he has helped to cross over the rainbow bridge in the 41 years we've been coming to him. I just know it is always with compassion for the pet and the owner. Thank you Dr. Escalada for your DECADES of dedication to the animals of Santa Cruz county and the decades of service to my family and me. You are appreciated! read more

Dr. Escalada has been our vet for the past five or six years whenever we are in the area from our home in Sonora. He has always been a great resource for our two loyal Dalmatians who are getting on in their years. We appreciate that he is one to walk-ins, his p he has given our dogs, and his sense of humor, especially when expressing anal glands (on our dogs). He also has made Gracie's waning time (at 15 years) more comfortable and mobile. read more

There are no words that can express the kind of person Dr Escalada is . I think the best way to describe him would be with a few simple words. Kind, Sincere and Heartfelt. You feel his sincerity and kindness just in his presence and he has a heartfelt love for what he does and the animals it is just obvious . His office is simple its does not have that hi tech appearance but I know that every time i go in there I will leave feeling like a person not a number and my animal companion will feel the same way. And i will add that every time i have left my pet has gotten the correct diagnosis and has gotten well! So hats off to a man who is real and who obviously loves what he does so much more than he loves the money that he takes from his clients for his superb services. read more
