I am a 77 year old woman and know very little about cars. I have a 2004 Toyota Corolla and I saw a large puddle of oil on my garage floor. I took my car to Ertl's (been there before) for an oil change. They also found out the leak was caused by the timing chain tensioner failed and had to be replaced. This was on a Wednesday, and Dave promised that he would have an estimate ready for me on Friday. It sounded that this might be a bit expensive, so I went online to see "average" costs. The estimates were from approximately $500.00 to $2000.00, depending on the type of car, as several items were "in the way" and had to be removed and replaced to access the tensioner removal. I almost fainted! LOL!. Well, Dave is an honest and reputable person. He quoted me $486.00. I was so relieved! I drove it down there on Monday at 9:00 am, and he was kind enough to drive me back home, so that I did not have to sit there for 6 hours. My son's father-in-law drove me back to the shop at 3:00 pm. Not only was it repaired, but he told me that it was not as complicated as he thought it would be, so he lowered the price to $336.36!!! Now how many mechanics have you used who was so honest and kind to treat me, a Senior Citizen by being so ethical and truthful to lower my bill by $150.00? I have never met one! God bless him. All this review can speak to is the high level of professionalism and customer service at Ertl's Automotive. After getting a flat tire and having to purchase four new tires, I needed someone to check the alignment on my 2016 Honda CRV. Ertl's Automotive was a recommendation from the tire shop. After making an appointment and coming to the shop, they inspected the alignment. The mechanic said that my alignment was within normal limits and that nothing was wrong with it. I went here on the recommendation of the tire store. I was a walkin asked if they had time for an alignment for my subaru ascent. They pretty much dropped what they were doing to help me. Price qoted was good, very friendly took my car in right away. Unfortunately, they could not align my vehicle due to all the safety programs and parts on my car. They did verify that it was out of alignment but told me I really should take it to the dealer. When I asked how much I owed him, he said nothing, they couldn't do the job so no charge. wow!!! I went here to change a coil packet for a 2009 VW Jetta. I was charged close to $600 and it took two days to do. When I asked why I was charged triple the cost of the part that I needed. The parts girl told me that they needed to make a profit on the parts!!!! The labor cost was ridiculous as well. When I called to talk to the manager, the parts girl said that she handles customer service. I took my pickup to Ertl for an oil change last week. They also did a brake inspection without being asked and told me that I needed rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders. They quoted $260 labor for the two items. I agreed to supply the parts. I took my truck in yesterday to have the work done. I told the woman at the counter to do the brake shoes only and to leave the wheel cylinders alone. When I picked it up, the bill was for $260. She told me that that price was just for the shoes and that the cylinders would have been an additional $75. I could see that I wouldn't win the argument, so I paid the full amount. I was offered a 1/2 hour free labor on my next visit. I will not collect on that because I will never go there again for anything. read more

Ertl's was recommended to me for an alignment, which they did at a very reasonable price. While there, I asked for a quote on front brakes for my vehicle. They quoted a reasonable, competitive price. Of course, the price would be higher if I needed new brake rotors. I thought I certainly would have needed the rotors. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they were able to resurface my existing rotors, thus saving me money. They could have easily said I needed new ones and raised the price accordingly. Also I was in a bit of a hurry, and they expedited the brake job and I got out of there earlier than their projected time. I give Ertl's Automotive five stars for honest work and reasonable prices. Was given a voucher from American Tires to have a lug bolt replaced. I made an appointment at 8 AM and showed up at 745 AM, I believe the owner and one of his employee's helped me out right away. It took a bit longer then expected, but that was not an issue. They took the time to explain what they did and what I needed to do to find the proper lug nut. Caveat tho - Jenny could have been a bit more customer friendly-if it wasn't for the interaction from the owner and the mechanic who took the time to explain what was done I wouldn't return. After reading all these "Rave" reviews I was STUNNED at what happened to me. I spoke on the phone to a guy there about getting new Brake pads all around(4). This is a DIRECT quote of what he said: "Just Pads 110 labor(Takes about an hour) 99X2=$198 4 Top Quality Pads + $110 Labor =$308 for Labor & 4 top quality pads, or I could choose less expensive ones." I made an appointment and showed up with my own pads(4) I'd found that were highly rated at only $84 rather than $198. They only installed the front pads, as they said the rear needed "shoes" not pads. They charged me for a full hour $110(for only 2 not 4 pads). So I said "So this means that when I get the shoes and come back I won't be charged for labor again, right? I was told that I was wrong about what I was told. She said the guy had written down "Customer is bringing her own pads $220 Labor". That is total BULL$^%& since I NEVER told him I was bring in my own pads. I had at the moment I spoke to him NOT yet decided to look for Pads on my own..... Maybe they felt "Cheated" by my bringing my own pads, I don't know.... What I do know is that I'm having the mechanic that's worked on my car for 15 years to check to be sure they even PUT on the NEW pads since when I got in my car to drive away I could not feel ANY DIFFERENCE when braking... always in the past when you get New pads the Brake doesn't depress as much(since the Pads are new & thicker?). read more

I have a couple of friends who own auto repair shops, so when I can (i.e. when they are not on vacation and not busy with major projects) I try to get my cars serviced with them. Occasionally, I need an alternative. Ertl's Automotive is close to my house (about 1-2 miles). I used them several times for minor repairs. I really like Dave (the owner). He seems like an honest, no-nonsense guy. The job and parts come with a 12-month guarantee. I recently had to test the guarantee when brakes on my daughter's Hyundai started having a problem after a major repair done a little over a year ago (apparently, it was caused by a stuck caliper). Even though I was a couple of weeks out of warranty, Dave did not charge me for essentially a redone job. I'm pretty sure that other mechanics would want to charge me. I can't say about all repair rates, but for the jobs done on my cars, prices were reasonable. I wish the business hours were more accommodating (8-5, M-F means taking time off work). If they extended to, say, 6 PM or an occasional Saturday, I would've come to Ertl's more often (e.g. for all oil changes). If you live close by, someone from the shop can drop you off and pick you up when the car is ready. I would not feel comfortable asking for a drop-off and /or pick-up for minor jobs, like oil change, though, but it would not hurt to check. If you are looking for an honest mechanic in the Orangevale/Folsom/Citrus Heights neighborhood, Dave and his team can be your guys. read more

Second they do an excellent job and know about all kinds of cars. Third they are always busy which is a good sign and I have talked to other customers that say they are great. Since they get busy, it is best to get an appointment. Fourth their rates are reasonable - they aren't cheap but they are better than a dealership. Because they are honest you wont get ripped off. Just when I thought there was no such thing as an honest mechanic left in this world. Ertl's Automotive will get my business from now on, and should be getting yours, too. We have been burned by incompetence at a number of local shops in Folsom. As a matter of fact, the last repair we had done was left incomplete. A previous mechanic from a different shop in Folsom left our AC compressor unplugged after installing a new water pump! As a result, my fianceé's 2001 Nissan Altima was blowing hot air, so we took it in to Ertl's to have it diagnosed. Not only were they completely upfront and HONEST about what they found, but they did not charge for the diagnosis, plugged the AC compressor back in, and re-charged our freon at no cost! AC works like new, and just in time for summer. These guys are pros; honest, reliable mechanics. Great job! Very happy and we are telling all of our friends about the great work they do.
