The Ermita is a beautiful, small church by the bay and a Mecca for all Cubans in Miami. It's small, quaint and all that you would expect. We went to the 11am mass and took sunflowers to offer to "la Virgen". It's air conditioned but the seats definitely give you penance. We all walked out with backaches that are still going strong today. There aren't any kneelers so get ready to kneel on the floor. Most people there are visiting from other areas, like us, and are not regulars. The mass was filled with music- they have guiros, tumbadoras, guitars and pianos going on with the singing and we loved it. The priest gave a good mass and thorough post gospel liturgy which was engaging. They have a gift shop inside and a little cafeteria outside to get some goodies before you go like pastelitos, croquetas and such. In case you didn't know, the mass is in Spanish and they have speakers that broadcast yo those sitting outside by the bay. We truly enjoyed the experience, especially being Cuban. A nice little church. Word of advice: ask people to turn off their cell phones prior to mass. My regular church does it and it makes for less distractions.

Place of worship for Cubans and all catholics. I make a pilgrimage to the Sanctuary every time I visit Miami. The peace that I feel there so close to the Virgin and then sitting at the mini malecón is unique.

When i need to sooth my soul, have a deep, open and sincere conversation that lifts up my spirit with goodness, compassion and love, this is one of my most precious places where i come. No matter your beliefs or creed, here you will find peace.

This church is absolutely beautiful. The energy here is heavy and made me quiet emotional in a good way. I am neither Cuban nor Catholic, my fiancé is- he knew I would love this place and I absolutely did. Great spot to visit for anyone of any religion. They have a beautiful gift shop inside with religious relics and holy water. As well as two confessionals. This is going to be a regular stop when we come down to visit family.

This is my absolute favorite church! Me & my best friend come here at least once a week. Sometimes we try to make it to the mass, but if we can't make it, we still bring La Caridad del Cobre her sunflowers. They have a small store inside the church with a lot of beautiful merchandise. The church is also located right on the water basically so we go sit by the water for a few hours and just talk and relax. Beautiful view :)

I love this place. It gets a little crowded at times hard to find parking when it's a bit crowded. The Church is located near the ocean has a cute little park. Nice to sit down and pray and just feel peace in your heart.

There was no entrance fee for the festival, but on Saturday night, they had a band performing and there was a $10 cover per person to go in the seated area. We didn't know this until the end of the food line after we paid - we went to go in the ballroom but were told we needed a ticket by someone outside the room. It wasn't really clear that there was any seating available other than in the room with the band, so we did pay the cover since we got so much food and needed to sit, not sure exactly what the entertainment was. The band was fantastic and lively, so we didn't necessarily regret it, just still a bit of a steeper price than entrance for any other cultural festival that also comes with live entertainment and just wasn't made clear from the beginning how it worked until we already had our food. Very cool to see the community go up and dance with the band. I love that in Brickell we have such a culturally rich and diverse institution open to the community.

Here is some information regarding this place. Prior to the First Presbyterian Church, the lot at 609 Brickell Avenue was the location of the home for Edna Rickmers. First Presbyterian purchased the lot at 609 Brickell Avenue in 1948. The church was built and opened in 1949. Andre and Edna Rickmers bought the lot at 609 Brickell Avenue from Mary Brickell shortly after arriving in Miami. The couple arrived to Miami in 1905, a year after they got married in Pittsburgh. Edna was from Pittsburgh and her husband was a ship builder from Germany. He was listed as retired in the 1908 Miami City Directory. The couple was listed at 1805 Brickell (later changed to 609 Brickell), as early as 1908. It is likely they built the home in the cover photograph between 1905 and 1907. Andre and Edna were very active in real estate in the growing Miami area. The couple owned a fair amount of property in today's Omni neighborhood. They also owned the land where the Olympia Theater resides. It was actually Edna Rickmers that gave the building the name "Olympia Theater and Office Building" in 1926. However, Andre was not alive to see the building of the Olympia. It isn't clear the year he died, but Edna Rickmers was listed as a widow by the 1918 Miami City Directory. The home at 609 Brickell Avenue was set toward the back of part of the lot. It was very common for homes on the east side of Brickell Avenue to be located closer to the bay and a distance from Brickell Avenue. The home was razed in 1948 to make room for the church. Following the sale of the property to the church, Edna Rickmers moved a few blocks south to a mansion located at 1927 Brickell Avenue. She lived in this mansion until her death in February of 1956
