The house is a time capsule it's a little eerie, it's staged as if they went on Holiday and never returned. From the authentic period clothing on mannequins that can also be found in photos, to their Knick-knacks and memorabilia. It's like stepping back to the early 1900's. The house isn't Pittock Mansion Status, but it shows the working family farm life and the docets are very informative and point out little tidbits of history to watch for as you wander the property on a self guided tour. Total time in the house was about 30minutes and another 15 exploring the gardens and farm area. Pretty good activity on a cloudy day we took 2 teens and they found everything interesting. 4 stars because the building is in dire need of repairs.

Essentially, the event is only for two weekends in December. The house was decorated for the holidays a la Pittock Mansion. In one of the rooms they had amateur string players playing holiday music, and there were a few docents around the house providing historic information on the home. The house itself was decorated with Christmas lights, and they also had a sort of Christmas light garden out front. Outdoors next to the house they had a cute wooden sleigh with a decent Santa. Pictures with Santa (with your personal camera or phone) were included in the admission price. Next to that was a tent with concessions and live holiday music. They had alcoholic beverages for purchase as well as hot chocolate and non alcoholic cider for the kids. While we were there we heard choral music from what looked to be a high school choir. There was a vendor fair as well, but, frankly, it was terrible. Not sure if they normally have more vendors and no one showed up due to concerns over road conditions, but there were like three booths, and the tent was mostly empty. Parking was at the business center across the street, and there were volunteers to safely walk you across the road. Overall, this was a cute little event. The price was a little high for a winter event, in my opinion, but it was pretty reasonable considering the fact that it also included the tour of the historic home as well as all of the Christmas displays.

Besides, culinary ventures to Mexican, Vietnamese and Traditional American you can also find some "Art" aspects. Such as Photography, Museums, Music ( from instruments for sale to lessons). Seems like this little downtown area has a lot to offer. For a Wednesday Midday - was able to find parking relatively at ease. Originally, The Gresham Historical Museum was what my attention, but sadly due to a fire the Museum has been closed for awhile. I was however, informed by a staff that they planned on opening towards the end of November filled with many new decorations for the upcoming holidays. *Bring your kids! Pictures with Santa will also be available- Call Museum to confirm Date & Time. After walking through the downtown area, I was enjpying the fall leaves fluttering down as couples went into a restaurant to eat, friends were leaving, people just enjoying a cup of joe, etc. There are many fun 'memorial/ donation' statues you will see left and right. Overall, Felt completely at ease and safe and would highly recommend friends and family to stop by and enjoy this quaint area. Grab a bite to eat, enjoy the museum, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the weather on the many benches available. Looking forward to coming back to visit once again.

Calling all historians!…read more The folks at the Clackamas County Historical Society would love to meet you. After being closed for several years, the Museum of the Oregon Territory spent 2011 rebuilding and they hope to expand hours and resources throughout 2012. At the moment, it is an odd schedule. Open on Wednesdays (11 - 4p) and the first and third Saturdays of the month. I've made several trips here in the past few months and in addition to the museum, they have done a great job hosting events that range from fundraisers (crab feed) to educational (oral histories from the members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde). They are trying to find someone to be the historian for various cities in Clackamas County and several positions are still open, including West Linn. So if I'm not careful, tag, I might be it! Nice collection of historical objects that range from the mundane to the culturally significant. Of course, there is information about the Willamette Meteorite and the father of Oregon, Dr. John McLoughlin, but I tend to focus on the quirky. One of my favorite sections of the museum is the reproduction of a turn-of-the-century Kaegi pharmacy which was located on 49th and Belmont in Portland. All that vintage glass makes me smile. Admission is free, but of course donations are joyfully accepted. There is also a good view of Willamette Falls from the second and third floors of the museum. What can I say? I'm a museum geek and love places like this. The volunteers are friendly and it is a great snapshot of our local roots. Hope they continue to build on what they've already accomplished.
