What a great place Course is amazing and great for all levels Caddies are the stars here and they are 5 stars. No real issues but the price is a bit steep but I get it. It can be overrun if it was priced cheaper and it's a special place. Would love to play more than one time a year but it's cost prohibitive. Try it and you won't regret it read more

I loved my experience and would highly recommend. The course is fabulous and after dinner, we had fun playing the 12 hole putting course. I liked the accommodations. Ice cold beers on tap in the pub then walked upstairs to our comfortable room. Really felt like I was in Ireland or the UK. The bathroom could be a little nicer in the room but it was very clean with a comfortable bed although small. Dining on the terrace is wonderful except for the flies. I don't think that can be helped; the spectacular views helped. We had a total of three meals--two breakfasts and one dinner. Breakfast was fabulous. Recommend the omelette with everything. Dinner was good my husband had the sea bass and I had soup, salad and Brussels. Expensive and small portions but good. Very impressed with the pro shop selection for women. I love the shamrock emblem anyway but lots of different and high quality clothes to choose from. Wished there were more medium/size 6 options. Two thumbs up for the hotdogs with pretzel bun option at the turn. read more

First of all I want to say that I don't understand how anyone could rate Erin Hills less than 5 stars. I made this a waypoint on a road trip to Minnesota to visit a best friend and I stopped to play here in July of 2019. If you're someone who only likes golf and doesn't love it, then you may not like this course. But I loved every second of playing here, even if the course whooped my butt. I'm a 10 handicap and shot a 97, but it was the most fun butt whooping I've ever had in a round of golf. To me, it was worth every penny of the big price tag. My friends and family and anyone I talk to about this course all think I'm crazy to have spent as much money as I did to play here, but it was so worth it to me. It's the best golf course I've ever played hands down and I've played so many different golf courses in my 30 years of life. Playing here is easy to see how good PGA golfers really are. It was a humbling experience. The course is pristine and so beautiful, but also very undulated and the greens are set up so that you have to hit the right shot for the ball to hold. Erin Hills gave me my first ever caddie experience. Walking the course wasn't bad at all and my caddie, John, was awesome. He gave me amazing insight from every hole, tee to green. He gave me awesome reads of the green and I only three-putted once. I hit into the tall fescue three times and he found my ball every single time. He was really friendly and I enjoyed hearing about the history of the course. The fire caddies throughout Erin Hills were also fun, as they'd jump up and down or do something else entertaining when drives would land in the fairway. I daydream of going back to play Erin Hills again someday, especially to play the Drumlin Putting Course, because I missed its grand opening by a week. read more

If you ever get the chance to golf this course do it! Such an amazing experience all around. When You on the course there is nothing but land as far as the eye can see and it's breathtaking. I played for the first time in July of this year. Right when you drive in, it feels very fancy. Staff was kind. I walked 9 holes- let's just say it is VERY hilly (hence the name lol). Holes are challenging and it does take a long time to play but scenery is beautiful. For such an expensive and hyped up course, I was disappointed with the amount of divots on the fairway. Clearly the course is very well loved and played a lot, but it was a significant amount that I would not have expected. Any WI golfer should play at least once. Amenities are lovely. read more

This will seem strange--a 4 **** review on a place I'll never go back to. But I want to be fair: it's a first class facility that checks all the boxes of their objectives--championship caliber, walking-only course that will test the abilities of all golfers. Spectacular yet minimalist facilities. Cordial, well-trained staff. Pro caddy staff to enhance the walking experience. Immaculate conditioning throughout. Check, check, check, check, check. What it isn't is very much fun. On a weekday morning, it was a 5.5 hour deathmarch that seemed to be constantly uphill. I compared it to playing Chambers Bay (another tough walk/future Open venue)--but at least there the golf is a absolute funhouse compared to the Erin Hills battle royal. Even playing the appropriate tees, there were just too many times that a ball just slightly mis-hit trickled through the 2nd cut and was gone forever. Every single hole had extended ball searching sessions. Greens were an absolute beast to hold and putt. So I checked off this box off my list, but I just can't imagine ever wanted to make the trip back to Erin Hills at these prices, for this golf course. Pretty sure I'm not alone in that opinion. read more

A first class operation with five star staff. Everyone who greets you will be very polite, have the answers to your questions, and ready to help in any way possible. The course is very nice, well manicured, long, and requires some skill. As for the walk, it's not that bad, I've played Bethpage Black from the tips and it was far more taxing. Keys to scoring, hit 3 wood, keep the ball in play off the tee and consistently play short and left of the target. If your in the fescue just take a drop unless you have a miracle lie otherwise you risk making 2 maybe 3 swings to get out. Last word of advice, stop and look around, enjoy it, don't rush, it's an expensive place to play, make the most of it. read more

Overpriced..had long waits for a golf course that is nice, but certainly not worth the price..

I can see why this place is so highly ranked. The facilities are amazing. They have a great range with tons of targets, a huge putting green near the tee box, and a vast short game area. Only problem is that they're spread out. The pro shop is well stocked but they don't carry anything unusual or something I felt like I had to get (and the yardage books are way overpriced). The course itself is a hike (about 8 miles of walking), but it's so gorgeous that I'd pay just to walk it. There truly isn't a bad hole. The par 3s are memorable and every shot you make off the tee or into the green has unique qualities to it. My caddie also made the trek more memorable. He would tell us where and when Jordan Spieth did well and not so well on each hole during the US Amateur here in 2011. I'm so glad I came here. Originally it was just a bucket list cross off but I will definitely be back. And I can't wait to see the 2017 US Open here on tv! read more

(I had the pleasure of coming here on a work retreat - it was an amazing experience only enhanced by the friendliness of the entire staff - from caddy, to bartender, to the pros at the golf shop.) This is a beautiful golf course with rolling hills and 8.5 miles worth of walking. Be warned, no push carts or golf carts are allowed on the course - you have to walk the entire way. The greens are large and fast. The overall course is challenging. So, come for the golf, but stay for the luxurious accommodations in one of their cottages and do not miss out on the food. The cottage had 4 separate bedrooms and bathrooms sharing a common sitting area. Plenty of privacy for when you want it, but easy to socialize as well. It is beyond spotlessly clean and everything is elegant with a hint of rustic reminding you that you are close to nature. I arrived in the early afternoon and grabbed a quick bowl of soup (cream of chicken) before hitting the links, though I spied someone chowing down on a bratwurst and I knew then that I had made the wrong lunch decision. But alas, with an 8.5 mile journey ahead of me, I needed something a little lighter, and the soup was just fine. The highlight of food actually came at dinner time where I indulged in a huge rib-eye, cooked perfectly medium rare with a bed of arugula and fresh mushrooms sitting aloft the huge marbled piece of meat. After gorging myself on this rib-eye, the group ventured outside to the fire pits where we were able to keep the party going thanks to the amazing bartender who was coming in and out all night long to take our drink orders and deliver our beverages so we could stay warm by the fire. It will be interesting to see how this place grows for the 2017 US Open. read more

I have never played a course like erin hills. I'm not an avid golfer but try to get out 4-5 times a year and always with a cart and no caddie other than some smartass partners who think they know what they're Talking about. After playing Erin Hills, it has really grown my appreciation for golf and the professional players. Walking @10 miles up and down hills and trying to keep the mental focus intact is a true challenge. I have to say though, with the help of my caddie, it made all the difference in the world to me. I actually played well. The impact that a good caddie can have is amazing. The course is certainly challenging. The course and facilities are great. The playing experience was oddly relaxing because of the minimalist look of the place. The look back from the 18th tee box is cool. There is a monestary far away perched up on a hill that creates a mystical backdrop. Very cool. I look forward to watching the 2017 US open. It's a remote spot so the impact on the area will be interesting. Overall, A totally different experience for me. I rarely give 5 star but this place is as close as it gets for me read more

Erin Hills is a fantastic course and golfing experience. It is a very long walk (nearly ten miles and quite hilly) and not an inexpensive round, but playing at a US Open host course is a bucket list adventure. If your budget allows, play with a caddie, both to help navigate the round and enhance the experience. The facilities are first-class and the course is tremendous. It's long and tough, but playable from the appropriate tees. I'm looking forward to seeing the pros play the course during the Open. read more

Played on a gorgeous Tuesday morning this week. Perfect conditions. After four days playing at the American Club, really looked forward to the US Open venue. Played the green tees but should have played the blues. The course is fairly wide open with not a lot of fairway trouble. Several elevated greens and some unknown distances make for some tricky guesswork on your shots. The greens were in good shape and not running too fast, probably around a 10 stimp. Cost was $350 plus a caddie service fee and caddie tip of $60. Oh, one last thing, great breakfast buffet and highest quality merchandise in the shop. The Straights and Black Wolf should get the Erin Hills buyer for their merchandise. So why give only 3 stars?. Well...here's the thing. Our caddies were two high school kids who didn't really know anything about golf or the course. They were even having difficulty shooting the pin with the binoculars. It would have been easier and more effective to buy a yardage guide together with my own binoculars to manage my way around the course. The senior caddie didn't intervene much to assist the juniors. It was really ridiculous and unbecoming a high-end golf facility. I absolutely will not return there. read more

Fantastic course, facility and accommodations. Great place to have buddies trip or to take you wife on a long weekend if she is an avid golfer. Course was in great shape, extremely fair and challenging. I did the Packers, Whistling Straits and EH in the same long weekend. I wish I would spent more time at EH and less at Whistling. Truly an awesome golf destination. Lastly the staff was fantastic!! Friendly and very customer focussed. I did have one issue. We had the same caddy 2 days in row and he was a little too comfortable the second day. I recommend you change that up unless the looper is awesome. High Recommend Erin Hills!! read more

I've now played Erin Hills 14 times (6 this year) and I love this golf course (although I wasn't a big fan before the changes were made). From start to finish they do things right out there. The drive in to the bag drop area is beautiful and gives you a taste of what's to come. The guys at the bag drop are always friendly and informative. After parking they often have a cart to drive you up to the clubhouse. The clubhouse staff are friendly and professional. The range here is awesome with one fescue range and one bent grass range along with a large short game practice area. As for the course - it's a tough walk if you're not in good shape. That being said, I've had clients carrying several extra pounds make the hike. Earlier this summer I even had a client make it around who had a hip replacement 2 years ago. The layout is terrific at EH event though I'm not a fan of starting with a par 5 and ending the front 9 with a par 3. The course doesn't play as long as the yardage on the card, as a lot of the length is in the par 5's. While it can be visually intimidating at times (tee shots on 3 and 4!) its a fair golf course with very generous landing areas. The rough is tough, but I've played my last 4 rounds out there and only lost 1 ball. While you may be able to find your ball in the rough it's not always an easy shot (which is totally fair in my view). The tee shot on 18 is a great photo opp with Holy Hill in the distance and a challenging hole right in front of you. Please note that if you're playing the white or red tees that you will have to go back to one of the other tee boxes to get the view of HH. Overall - I love the experience and the price is right compared to other world class golf courses (whistling straits is almost double the cost). My clients love coming here and have truly enjoyed it regardless of what they shot. This year I've played Bethpage Black, Olympia Fields and TPC Harding Park - Erin Hills is a better experience than all of those great courses. One comment for the previous review from Pete- the course got very positive reviews from the players at the US Am so I'm not sure what you base your "the pro's will hate it" comment on? Be sure to play the appropriate tees to maximize your enjoyment - 7200 yds is WAY too much course for most people. read more

Very expensive, long and penal but not overly difficult. Heather lines EVERY fairway on the right and left side......a bit ridiculous. Rounds are 5+ hours on average because you spend all day walking and looking for your ball in the rough. Most will play once and never return......not worth the expensive price tag. We played at 7,200+ yards and there was another 7,200 yards worth of walking from green to tee. The 18th green finishes about 1/4 mile walk away from the clubhouse......go figure? The pros will hate this track for the US Open. My caddie said it is the most difficult walking course in the US and I would agree with him. As you can imagine......they don't advertise that fact. Bring change of clothes.....nice shower and bath facilities. Also, nice pub and food. read more

This is a beautiful golf course, it is the site of the 2017 US Open. It's pricey - $200 plus tax to carry your own bag - no carts or pull carts allowed. We decided to skip the caddies, next time I play I will definitely get a caddy. This is a very strenuous walk, and on a hot day it is brutal. It's about nine miles, and the course is named "Hills" for a reason. If you're a smoker, or in poor health - I'd think twice. The course itself is nice, links course with lots of fescue. There are multiple sets of tees, from the tips it will be a great US Open course. We played the middle tees - Green - quite the challenge. Two things about the course I didn't like - too many blind shots. The other thing is the greens were really fast, I'm OK with that, but a few were slanted and poor design. 14 is a good par five, and the green is slanted to the right, and if you hit the green on the right side it is going to roll off and down a big hill into a collection area. Poor design in my opinion. Besides that I'd play it again, but not on a 90 degree day in high humidity. I also wonder how they are going to handle the US Open, it's about 12 mile west of the highway, pretty rolling countryside but there's nothing around there. read more

Played Erin four times, really awesome golf course. But, I played it when the greens fees were about $110. It is NOT worth $300 carrying your own bag, or $400+ with a caddy, maybe once, just to say you played it, but that's it. It'll be booked up solid for a year or two after the U.S. Open. read more

I'm a fan but with huge reservations. This place BADLY needs shade. It's Wisconsin! It's summer! It's unbearably hot and often unbearably humid as well. Even if I were in fabulous condition, following the USGA players would be a daunting task due to the aforementioned problems. Also in the fan area, I believe it is absolutely crucial to construct several permanent open air covered spots since trees can't be planted in cement! The merchandise tent was wonderfully cool, but it was impossible to sit inside. I considered trying on a shirt so I could sit for a moment, but the lines were very long. The only place to sit and cool off was the First Aid tent and on Friday it was filled to capacity (about 30 chairs). Having been overcome by heat, I inquired as to where to find a shuttle to take me back to the bus (about a 15 minute hilly walk) and the first aid person said near the Jumbotron -- guest services. No such place; no such labeled facility. I walked very slowly back to the bus, holding up about 30 people due to the time it took me to make the walk. read more

Restaurant- tried to have dinner at restaurant tonight (have done so many many times before). We were told they do not accept diners without a reservation - even though the restaurant was almost empty and there was wait staff standing around. How idiotic is that ? Turning away customers? I should have gone out to the porch and called for a reservation right then! It will be a long time before I go eat there again. read more
