Leo is amazing. Hands down. I really can't imagine a better wedding photography experience. Even…read morethough I thought I had high standards, Leo exceeded them in every possible way. My husband and I got married on a pretty tight budget, and at first we weren't sure we wanted to splurge on hiring a photographer. I'm an art historian, and I've spent countless hours studying photography from an aesthetic viewpoint. When I started looking at the websites of relatively low-cost photographers, I felt like I kept running into tired, boring pictures that I was pretty sure any one of our friends could take with a cheap digital camera. It just seemed pointless to me to spend money for bad or even mediocre photographs. Then I came across Leo's photos, and I was floored. At the time, Leo had only shot one or two weddings, but even those were amazing. He captured candid moments perfectly, catching fleeting emotions as they passed over someone's face, or a perfect turn on the dance floor. The photographs were of impeccable quality, crisp and clear, with vivid and rich color. But more than the aesthetic factor, it was the way Leo captured the people that excited us... I felt like I wanted to meet every last person in them. Leo had a way of showing them at their most human, looking beautiful and interesting. Not your standard wedding photography at all, and so much better So we met with Leo, and he showed us some in additional photographs from those weddings. It turns out that the ones that didn't make it on to the website were *just as good* as the ones that did. We looked at several hundred shots and almost every one of them was breathtaking. We were sold. Everything went smoothly from there. Leo includes an engagement session in the price, and he was flexible about scheduling and enthusiastic to try out lots of different ideas, including driving two hours away to a winery at no extra charge. I think he even bought the sangrias for us! He provided us a print from our engagement session with a large mat for us to use as a wedding guestbook for free. On the day of the wedding, Leo was super. One awesome thing about his wedding package is that it's not based on hours, or number of photos. He stays as long as the festivities last. He showed up early and started taking photographs right away. He scouted out nearby locations for formal photographs. He was professional and unobtrusive while still bringing his great personality, fun sense of humor and willingness to try out things to the table. And the photos... damn, I don't even have the words for them. They're phenomenal. Absolutely gorgeous. He caught so many intriguing, beautiful, funny, irreverent, genuine moments. He took photographs from angles that I'm not sure how he managed. And the expressions he caught on people's faces are some of the best I've ever seen. They capture us and our friends and family so exquisitely. It's really better than I thought photography could be. Leo's been one of the easiest and best parts of the whole wedding planning process. I can be a picky person, and I was iffy about the whole photography deal at the beginning, but I've been converted. I can't think of a single criticism, and I am so happy I'll have these photographs to treasure for the rest of my life. I'd recommend him to anyone.

He did our engagement pictures and wedding, and everyone at our wedding marveled at how he seemed to be everywhere--and the pictures prove it. He got stuff neither of us remembered even happening at the wedding. He also kept an eye out for good photo locations throughout the day and night. In some pictures I can't wait to see, he had us climb up a ladder to the rooftop and got some great shots of the Milwaukee skyline. He got us some samples within two weeks, and we're so excited to see the rest. We are so happy we chose Leo, and it was wonderful having him as our photographer. The pictures are beautiful, and he even put together a great slideshow with accompanying music. LOVED HIM.

Steve is a perfectionist and very thorough, and gets totally wrapped up in making your photography perfect. He helped us to feel comfortable during our engagement photo session, and we liked how friendly and genuine he was. For our wedding, he and his assistant arrived right on time, and were there to capture every important moment, both candid and posed, before and during the wedding. He was quick to post the online gallery for us to share with friends and family - it came about a month after our wedding. His services are not inexpensive, but we did also opt for a photo album and a package of prints of re-touched photos in various sizes. There are a ton of "photographers" out there, but we appreciated that Steve used the proper equipment and came equipped with several different kinds of flashes, and that his assistant was also a skilled photographer. My absolute favorite part of working with Steve and his assistant was how beautifully they captured the "first look" between my groom and me, and really encapsulated our sheer joy and excitement at that very moment. Reliving those photos makes me so happy. My only recommendation with Steve is that you cannot rely on email alone as correspondence, as he's not an avid emailer. Although I prefer email, I found that calling him at his studio or on his mobile number was a better way to get a hold of him. I will update my review once we've selected and received our wedding photo album!

I selected Steve Canning Photography based on multiple positive reviews. Our venue catering…read moremanager, wedding planner and bridal magazines all recommended him. The pricing was really straightforward and competitive with other quotes. I liked that the price was for unlimited hours and included a photo album and 6 prints as well as an engagement photo session. Steve was actually busy on the day of our wedding so we had 2 other photographers who were FANTASTIC! We knew this in advance and were fine with it. We were very pleased with the alternate photographers. They definitely took more of a photo journalistic approach than I think Steve would have, which resulted in some very creative shots. We deliberately made a short photo list because we didn't want to spend the wedding taking photos and I felt the photographers (Dustin and Aaron) were very respectful of this request. I can't say enough good things about these two. It took multiple follow up requests to get the online gallery of our wedding photos 4 weeks after the wedding. I never imagined it would take that long and we were dying to see the photos! It's been 2 months and we still don't have our album or the 6 prints which were included in the contract. I provided the photo numbers I wanted immediately upon receiving them as well as prompt payments, so the delay is not on our end. Steve said the album could take 2-4 months but I'm not sure what's taking so long on the prints because it's hard to get a response from Steve. Overall, I would recommend Steve Canning because of the quality of the work and the price but I would want the bride & groom to know it will take a long time to get your photos and album. Maybe I'll be really impressed when the album does arrive and update this review!

He is incredibly artistic and talented and super fun to be with. I have been recommending him to everyone I know, I couldn't have asked for a better photographer and our photos were beautiful. He found creative and clever shots to take that were different from the cookie-cutter wedding photos and we were super happy with the photos of some of the things we didn't see during the wedding. My wife found Ryan, and I am very, very happy she did. My wife and I got married on May 24, 2009 and Ryan and his beautiful assistant Emily, captured it all masterfully. As wedding planning went, finding the photographer was probably the hardest part for us. Every friend, family member and coworker knows a guy in the business. We ended up looking at a ton of websites and other photographers work. We weren't impressed and we really didn't like the cookie cutter feel of the recycled poses everyone seemed to use. We wanted something different. When we... I mean my wife, saw Ryan's web-page (ryanholloway.smugmug.com), we knew we happened upon that "something different" we had been searching for. We contracted him for engagement photos and the wedding. I had never heard of engagement photos before I learned from my then-fiance that they are a must have. Ryan met us one chilly October morning down by the water in Alexandria. For the sake of art, we lost the jackets and stared into the sun for an hour. I am very glad we did, because they turned out great and we ended up using them for Christmas gifts and in all forms of propaganda that was created building up to the big day. The day of the wedding, Ryan and Emily were prompt, never obtrusive, and complete professionals. They never seemed to be in the way, but after seeing the pictures it was obvious they were everywhere. Even those normally dreaded shots you have to take with just brothers, then just sister, then both, then with parents, and repeat... all went by comfortably and relaxed thanks to their demeanor. I also learned after seeing the pictures is that what Ryan really excels at is his ability to capture the feelings and emotions in every shot. The artistic touch and personality he put on every picture is amazing. As I mentioned, finding a photographer we wanted was the hardest part of our wedding planning preparations. Ryan Holloway Photography ended up blowing away our expectations. We were very lucky to have had Ryan and Emily capture such a huge day in our lives.

It's funny - we had exactly the same experience in terms of finding the right photographer. We knew we wanted something unique, but figuring out exactly what was challenging. After seeing Ryan's website and setting up an appointment with him, we knew we found our match. Let's face it. Nowadays, expensive cameras as everywhere. Trust me, we had about 6 of them at my wedding and thousands of pictures to match. You know what else is everywhere....the same old boring wedding photos. That's where Ryan makes all the difference. Don't take my word for it, check out his website and see for yourself! I'll echo Nathan again...on wedding day Ryan and Emily were amazing. We drove around DC taking pre-wedding photos in a mad rush. Ryan made the process easy and stress free for us, as he sweat through his shirt running from one angle shot to another. When we were done, he managed to get home for a shower/change and get back to the wedding in about 50 minutes -- NOT an easy task in DC! At the wedding I actually kind of forgot about them. Not on purpose, but they were often no where to be seen. They just blended in and avoided being that in-your-face photographer that can be so annoying at weddings....and results in......more of those same old cookie cutter photos we wanted to avoid. OK, one more comment and I'll close. After the wedding we were anxious to see our pictures (of course). We knew friends that were married more than a month before us. They are still waiting on their pictures. My CD is in the mail. You do the math! Now that's customer service!! Thanks Ryan :)

He was so communicative prior to our day and each communication we had with him was so easy going, kind, and fun. On the actual day, he came early and stayed late. He captured around 2,500 images if I'm not mistaken. We got a preview within a couple days, and all of our pictures with 2.5 weeks. Looking through our pictures they are absolutely beautiful. He has a real talent for integrating the backdrop (nature and/or architecture) into the image in stunning ways. For me and my dad we tend to feel nervous in front of the camera, but Justin has a way of making you feel at ease and the photos I got with my dad are the best ones I have ever gotten. He's non-judgemental, if there are specific photos you want or something you don't want he will listen and make you feel understood. After sending out an inquiry, Justin responded in a very timely manner and soon after we set up a time to meet up. At the meeting, Justin brought some of his previous work, and we had a chance to ask him a ton of questions. He was laid back, yet professional. Justin explained his pricing set up. My husband and I felt so comfortable with him, and loved all that he showed us. We asked him on the spot if he could do our wedding. A few months later we set up an engagement session. Justin's engagement sessions are not included in the wedding packages but we felt that it would be a good opportunity to get comfortable with him. And, it was worth it. Justin was very good at giving us instructions when we needed it. The way he poses you look so natural. Every time we looked through the engagement photos we fell more in love with them. We ended up using it for everything up to the wedding: save the date, registry, rehearsal dinner invitation... One of the great perks with Justin, is that he gives you full digital rights. He posts everything to a secured online gallery, and sends you a very cool usb drive with the photos. Leading up to the wedding, I coordinated with Justin the day of schedule, and he provided his input on when was the best time for certain photos and how much time to allot. On the day of the wedding, we had Justin jumping around to so many locations, and he was at each location on time. Throughout the day, Justin helped us with whatever we needed. We had the family members who think they are photographers and were constantly in the way but Justin was such a good sport in working with them. He even managed to capture photos without them in frame. Even though I did not notice him throughout the ceremony and wedding, he captured all the important moments. He processed the photos so quickly after the wedding. The photos are beautiful, and timeless.
