We recently stopped off in Porthmadog to break a long trip and looking for a light snack we came…read moreacross Jenny's. At the front it's a cafe and through a door at the back is a restuarant. This was mid morning so presumably the restaurant was closed so be found seats in the cafe. It's obvious that much of the food is home made, top quality and locally sourced. We opted for sausage rolls which were very nice but we could have chosen from a range of snacks including freshly cooked breakfasts. Star of the show was a row of incredible looking home made cakes, included quite possibly the largest lemon meringue I've ever seen. There were also some very nice looking takeaway meals including curries and the like. The only let down was the 'cutlery', i.e. the cheap plastic knives and forks. My fork actually melted inside my sausage roll, which admittedly was very hot, and my knife began to break into pieces which meant I had to fish tiny bits of plastic out of my food before I could eat it.

The chips were soggy and the burger was thin and tough; almost chewy. I don't know if it had been pre-prepared and then microwaved but it left me wondering if there's just a different style of food in Porthmadog and this version is considered normal. But the staff were nice and the locals looked happy. I don't want to upset anyone but if you're reading Yelp you are looking for recommendations and this is my anti-recommendation. Since there are only 2 prior reviews I'm sure it won't hurt their business.

I made it clear I was happy to take full responsibility, but they still refused and blamed it on food standards. That's a poor excuse. Many places manage to cater for people with allergies while still allowing them to make informed choices. Instead, I was treated like a liability rather than a customer. It's incredibly frustrating and left me feeling excluded and judged. Places like this should do better.

The building is bright and colourful and reminded me of a lovely blue farmhouse. The brightness carries through to the inside where there's a number of paintings on the walls. This gave the place a lovely homely and cosy feel which made me feel relaxed. We were welcomed warmly and the drinks order for our large group arrived promptly. I had to go for an old favourite - the chai latte - and whilst they're often overloaded with sweetness owing to an unpleasant amount of syrup, this was a delightful savoury and wholesome chai rendition. If you craved some sweetness, sugar did the trick. If not, enjoy! No syrupy sickening sweetness, not a drop. Hurrah for the chai latte in its natural form. Good job, Conwy Falls! I just wish I could have spent a little more time soaking up here and perhaps have enjoyed lunch or a cake. Alas, we were all very tired (5am start!) so it was very much a quick visit. A gem of a roadside stop.
