First impress of the vibes: I was greeted by somone the minute I walked in. The smoothing/juice bar was nicely decorated and organized in the deli. This place is totally a vibe... it's not just clean..but in perfection of alignment and organization. I bought a few things there : roasted peanut butter, chocolate biscotti, Spanish paprika chips, pistachios toffee chocolate and some hot food including chicken noodles, steak, chicken thigh, yam ( taste like honey) Chow mein, Mac and cheese ( so good) . And Most importantly the strawberry glaze smoothie...omg... that $25 so worth it. Actually everything was so delicious. Was it expensive overall? Yes. Worth it? My Brian say no, but my heart say yes. Erewhon Silver Lake is, by far, the worst Erewhon location in the city. I regularly shop at Erewhon and have been to every location. I'm frequently at Studio City, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood, so I have plenty of experience comparing the stores. Unfortunately, Silver Lake consistently stands out for all the wrong reasons. The biggest issue seems to be a serious lack of management and proper employee training. The team often appears confused about basic tasks, from printing labels to answering simple questions about prepared food. Something that should take a minute can turn into a long wait because no one seems to know what to do or who is responsible. The prepared-food experience is especially frustrating. Multiple times I've been told, "It'll be out in 10-15 minutes, they're making it now," only to wait 15 minutes and then be told, "Sorry, we were wrong--they're not making it anymore today." How does that happen so regularly? Even the food quality seems noticeably worse here. You would expect the exact same Erewhon item to be consistent from location to location, but that has not been my experience. I regularly eat the breakfast slider at Studio City without an issue, yet after eating the same item from Silver Lake, I felt sick. Even the meat and other prepared foods at Studio City consistently seem fresher to me. And the problems aren't limited to the prepared-food counter. I've purchased prebiotic yogurt here only to discover it was expired. I've also bought fruit that looked fine from the outside, cut it open shortly afterward, and realized it was so underripe that it was basically inedible and went straight into the trash. I understand that every store can have an occasional bad day. But when the problems are this consistent--from food quality and inventory information to expired products, produce quality, long waits, and employees struggling with basic procedures--it points to a management and training problem rather than an isolated mistake. For a store charging Erewhon prices, customers should absolutely expect better quality control and a much more organized operation. Today was my last visit to the Silver Lake location. My experience was extremely disappointing due to both the product quality and the customer service I received. After purchasing a smoothie, we discovered plastic particles inside the drink, which was very concerning. Unfortunately, the situation was made worse by the response from the manager, Arthur. When I called to report the issue, he requested my credit card information over the phone in order to process a refund. When I expressed discomfort with providing that information over the phone, he responded dismissively and implied that I was not genuinely interested in resolving the matter. I later returned to the store in person and showed him the piece of plastic directly, yet his attitude remained condescending and dismissive throughout the interaction. As customers, we expect both quality products and respectful customer service, especially considering the premium prices being charged. Well, after a quick trip to the walk in clinic next door left both me and my wife feeling pretty hungry, we figured why not give this place a shot and see what it's got to offer. The store itself is very clean, nicely organized, and features a decent but small selection of everything. I did a quick round of the store and found a mixture of super high priced things as well as some regular priced stuff as well. Afterwards I headed over to the hot food area and had a plate made for me. I ended up settling on the old school macaroni and cheese and these round potato things as well as some turmeric roasted chicken as a main course. I was super worried I was going to absolutely love the food here and get hooked on overpriced hot food, but that's quite the opposite as to what happened. My plate came to $32 and not a single thing tasted that good. The chicken was dry, the macaroni and cheese was alright, but lacked much flavour, and the potato things just didn't taste very good to me. The meal itself wasn't terrible, it just wasn't at all worth a $32 price tag. As a desert, I did sprawl for a $5 cookie that was delicious, but still not as good as the big 4 pack at Whole Foods for $7, so once again, not really feeling it. Overall, Erewhon is not for me. The hot food bar here is not at all worth the money and the quality of the food was just a bit of a let down for me. I'm not opposed to trying some stuff from around the store in the future, but the prices here for what you are getting just do not see worth it. I'll stick with other stores in the area. read more

We're talking about $30 for a combo plate, and it is based on weight, so if they pour a tad bit more, it will raise the price, which they often do. They serve pizza, the cheapest thing here, but it is not that good, and it makes Little Caesars taste like fine dining cuisine. The coffee here is okay. The coffee bar, however, is slow in making drinks; it takes about 20 minutes to get your coffee. This is where they sell their famous shakes, overpriced $25 Bieber shakes. I'd give it 5*, but you can feel your wallet getting lighter at checkout. On the other hand, their specialty sections are pretty badass, and occasional pantry supplements wouldn't hurt as much. What I was really impressed with, however, was the ready-made foods in general. That huge slice of fire cooked pizza, with kale and sausage was like something I'd find in Umbria, Italia. The pre-made sushi looks 10x better than anywhere else I've been, and what a selection, too! Seared salmon stood out. Coffee: I couldn't believe the shear quantity of brands, types, or variety. Standing at least 10 feet high, their rows are chock full of the best everything. Honey, Jams, sauces, dried herbs, spices, legumes. Even the produce is carefully selected and displayed. You won't see that at Ralph's or Vons, but possibly at that mega Pavillion on the hill on the Newport Coast. The wine annex is small but well curated. You could definitely find better prices elsewhere in the LA area, but they cater to the higher incomes and those whose tastes are linked to cost. I did see some exceptions and fantastic QPR options, so take the previous sentence with a nod towards Brunello, Barolo and Bordeaux. Overall, a shopping trip is costly aside noted from my first round with the slice of pizza, herbal beverage, and bag of house brand whole bean espresso,but I think it was fun. I was very impressed by Erewon. I originally thought maybe it was just internet hype and overpriced produce, but you're paying for health and quality! I really do believe that in life you get what you pay for and while I'm sure not 100% of the items in the store are healthy, most of them are. They have some really aesthetically pleasing displays and also some really unique products that can't be found anywhere else. I really enjoyed the prepackaged food, the amazing cooked food and salad bar, as well as all the great juices and smoothies! I also must mention the staff...when you first come in, you're greeted with staff holding baskets to give you. And then everyone else in the store is hustling. I am going to be honest. I love Erewhon. It is a type of market I like going to. Great choices of hot foods along with drinks and pastries, why not? Not to mention their produce is pretty fresh, and it's not overpriced like many other people think or assume. You can get Harry's Berries (at a little extra cost), but it's worth it if you are craving it and can't make it to one of the farmers' markets. Their drinks? One of the best. Pricey? Yes, for some smoothies, but is it worth trying at least once? Yes, I definitely believe so! There's a reason why people keep returning. Hot foods? YES! I absolutely loooove their hot foods selection. I think I've tried literally everything, and I liked them all. Their burritos are worth trying, as well as their combo plates, whether they're chicken, beef, or fish! I love the fish combo plate the best!! Broccolini with Garlic Confit and Buffalo Cauliflower are some of my favorite sides. I also tried their sushi bento when they had some type of collaboration where you order ahead and pick up at the store; it was surprisingly pretty satisfying for the price. Erewhon's wine and non-alcoholic selections are thoughtfully curated as well. My boyfriend and I casually stop by during our routine walks to browse through and always end up taking a bottle or two. If you shop regularly at Erewhon or live near one, I highly recommend getting the membership, which is $200 per year to use for the market & tonic bar and get 10% cash back for your purchase. Our cashback for the past year was more than enough to pay for our membership for this year, so it was definitely worth the money for us.Not to mention you get the monthly complimentary drinks that are specific for that month during the first 2 weeks of each month. Although I do miss the smoothies they used to have for complimentary, it's been mostly just tonic bar drinks, but still cool, I guess. Probiotics and skincare stuff they have are awesome as well. After five attempts to get any form of resolution, I was essentially told I was stuck with a damaged product. It was only after I threatened to write a review that they offered an exchange, which I declined. At that point, a refund was the only acceptable resolution given the experience I had been put through. For a brand that charges premium prices and markets itself as a luxury experience, the customer service protocols and quality assurance are appalling. I finally experienced Erewhon and it was a great experience. Honestly, I social media is over blowing certain things and let me clear things out. The prices aren't bad and they're a lot lower than what I thought in terms of the grocery. The Erewhon apparel, accessories, and other merchandise are super pricey like high-end items. The juice is fairly priced like Pressed and most juice joints. If anything, the prices are comparable to Whole Foods. It's the exclusiveness of Erewhon that make it seem very expensive. I wasn't a fan of their hot meals; they were just ok. Their cold items such as sushi and sushi sandwich are just ok too; nothing different or amazing. I will say, the only things I fell in love with was their smoothies and juice. They are both totally worth it. Be aware of the long lines and elbow to elbow traffic from young kids and social media elites. It's annoying really lol. I would definitely come back every time we touch down in LA. I actually enjoyed the Coconut Cloud Smoothie more and the blue spirulina gives it that beautiful baby blue color. They're both pretty indulgent, so I highly recommend sharing. Now onto the food! I got their 8oz Premium Sushi which was surprisingly fresh & tasty. It had a good variety of nigiri and even the roll had salmon, tuna, and yellowtail with avocado. What more could you want? The Sushi Sandwich was also a good try! The "rice sandwich" part was surprisingly still crispy, the ingredients were fresh, and the portions were balanced. The pizza dough has the perfect amount of chewiness; a number of options(we got garlic & spinach, mushroom, veggie special & cheese) All great! You get an almost square sized pizza slice for $8(non meat ones). Not saying it's the cheapest, but it's pretty good for the quality of the pizza. The store is known for being pricier, you definitely will pay less somewhere else for basic items. However, imo their food is worth it, their products are well packaged. Haven't tried their signature smoothies and not planning to - only thing I don't see myself splurging on. The smoothie is great but my choices have been sometimes too sweet I wish there was a grading on sweetness. Glad I tried Erewhon while I was visiting Los Angeles but it is definitely an overpriced grocery store/cafe! It was fun to walk through and I got hot food (Buffalo cauliflower, Mac n cheese, general Sal's chicken) and the famous Hailey Bieber strawberry skin glaze smoothie. The smoothie was a very sweet strawberry smooth. I'd get the buffalo cauliflower and mac n cheese, general Sal's chicken was on the sweeter side.
