Not bad, just not amazing. I do like that they make their sandwiches on French bread. They remove part of the inner bread to make room to fit fillings but include the "inners" of the bread with your finished sandwich. I don't like how little amount of stuff they put on my sandwich. I hate to give any place a one star review...especially these days. But this place clearly doesn't give a damn about their customers. The first time I went two weeks ago at noon, there was one employee behind the counter. She was brand new...day one...and she had no idea what to do, from taking my order, making the sandwich, or ringing me out. All of her fellow co-workers were in the back "baking the bread." After repeatedly asking them for help for 5 minutes...while I stood there wondering if I should just get my money back and leave...an off the clock employee who was waiting to start work came over to help her. I chalked it up as an anomaly and didn't think anything else about it. Until today. When I walked in at 12:07pm, I noticed three employees behind the counter, and two customers waiting for their food. Almost immediately, one of the employees yelled: OK I'M OUT OF HERE. And then she LITERALLY ran from behind the counter, down the short hallway, through the lobby and out the front door. The third employee slipped out the back. Meanwhile, the one kid left took my order. And then proceeded to take orders on the phone for 10 minutes. While three of us wait for our orders to be prepared, the line is now six deep. And NO ONE is making sandwiches. After taking his last call, the one remaining employee...casually strolled to the counter to take more orders from those in line. A gentleman informed him that he had placed an online order 30 minutes ago and was there to pick it up. SURPRISE! The sandwiches weren't ready. So the kid had to make two sandwiches at that point...pushing back everyone else that had been waiting since noon. At this point it is now 12:27. Customers in line are leaving. Suddenly, two new employees show up and start making sandwiches. I left the shop with my sandwich and walked back to work...30 minutes after I arrived. Not once did a single employee apologize...or even speak to a customer except to ask what they wanted for lunch. This place is pathetic and the single worst place I've eaten lunch in Wausau. I always enjoy coming in here. And I was very excited, to see Mac n Cheese on the soup list. It was extremely flavorful and creamy. I also tried the Girf on a lettuce wrap. I got a good taste of their fresh ingredients, despite not eating any bread. The only issue I had was they never informed us that the Mac n Cheese was more expensive than the traditional soups, that they carry. They do not list the price of the Mac n Cheese on their menu, in their actual store. So I was thinking I was going to pay 4.69 for a bowl of Mac n Cheese, but I paid 5.99. We recently moved to Wausau from Eau Claire and didn't realize they had an Erberts & Gerbets until we were driving around. The atmosphere was quiet and clean. Our sandwiches were fresh and made neatly and quick. We had a great employee helping us and she explained how their newer lobster sandwich was similar to the old geeter (my favorite) I can't remember her name, but she had red hair and was very nice with not only my hubby and I, but towards our daughters as well. While not as large as a Subway sandwich E&G's subs are much tastier. There's the rub.... the prices seem a little high for the portions. However the food is so good and the bread is much better than a Subway. In the end I give 4-stars because I've gone back quite a few times so I must like it. The soups are good even though they're probably just Sysco or Reinhardt commerical soups. The theme of the place being that Erbert & Gerbert are brothers and the sandwiches are named after characters from the stories that their dad told them as boys is unique. The stories, and artwork, adorn the walls and are fun to read and look at while you wait or eat. My one complaint is that they've screwed up my order a couple times. More than once they've had it sit there where I could see it because they thought it went with another order. Or they've forgotten my soup (or gave the wrong size). Small things but with repetition they get noticed and remembered. Still I'd recommend the place any time. read more

I actually was just looking for any place that delivered, I saw the high ratings which I usually take the time to go through but was trying to order so my husband had lunch when he came home. The sandwiches arrived one hour after ordering, was told 45 minutes so no lunch for my dear. The bread is very close to JJ, but the sandwich and condiments were unexciting. I ordered tuna, it was just tuna with no mayo or vinegar or chopped onions in the mix= no taste. I asked for pickles on the sandwich not knowing they send them on the side and they charged an extra 1+. I ordered the ham n turkey for my husband, it too was weak. The beer cheese soup didn't taste like beer or cheese so what was it then? The broccoli n cheese had a nice cheddar flavor but the broccoli was hard to find. The last 3 times I have ordered from here, it has been poor experiences. My last dine in experience consisted of verbal altercations between two employees behind the counter. The manager "tried" to intervene, but the employee called the shots. Not once did the manager apologize for the disturbance, that last throughout my whole dine in experience (25 mins). The last time I ordered delivery, I recieved a call 20 mins later to be informed of no delivery driver. I drive to their location to pick up my food, and the manager/supervisor did not know how to refund me the delivery fee & delivery tip and was never reimbursed. Today, my food was suppose to be delivered at 1:35 pm. I called at 1:55 pm asking where my food was. Was told they were running behind, understandable, and they were making the food now and it would be delivered in 20 ish mins. The food didn't arrive until 2:25 pm, almost an hour later from the original delivery time. A call to inform me of the delay would have been considerate. Every time I dine in or pick up, their employees are not friendly. Instead, the employees appear annoyed. I thought I'd give it another go today, but after today, I won't be ordering from them again. I gotta say I love Erberts and Gerberts. I, however; have never been in the store, only ordered to go. After my visit I probably won't even get it to go anymore. We were greeted by a young lady who was not not friendly but not super friendly either. Appeared as though she would rather be anywhere else. We ordered two combos and a kids meal. In the process of ordering it sounded as if someone was in a fight with pots and pans in the back. They were clearly not ready to be open. She did not give us our cups, we had to ask. No big deal. The kids meal she asked what she wanted to drink but failed to tell us we just had to go to the fridge and grab it. When our food came the nice gentleman got our kids drink for us. But we had to tel him we had soup too. The sandwiches were fine for my husband and I but the kids sandwich had 1 piece of ham and 1 piece of cheese. Kinda chincy if you ask me. The reateraunt itself was clean but dark and very dark and uninviting. All in all, it was just disappointing. On November 15, 2019, I ordered lunch. 45 minutes later, I call the store to follow up on my order because I also never received a confirmation email. They said my order would take another 45 minutes so I told them to cancel it. Two weeks later, I call the customer service number about my refund and they couldn't find my order even though I had my bank statement proving E&G withdrew from my account and told me they'd give me a call back. I never got a call back. A month later, I sent an email to customer service and a representative apologized saying the case went to the wrong department and that she would send this over to the General Manager ASAP. Cute shop. Cute theme. Love the stories and the names of the sandwiches that go along with them. But the sandwich itself was just ok. Nothing special. Quite honestly if I had to choose between the veggie sandwich at Erbert and Gerbert's or Jimmy John's, I'd choose Jimmy Johns. They were very similar but I prefer the JJ bread. My daughter had the chicken noodle soup with half a sandwich. She liked both but said "I think there were 6 noodles" in the broth. read more

New resident to Wausau WI. Ordered from Erberts and Gerberts from downtown just earlier this evening, and I have to say (having both dined in AND delivered now) this place is a HUGE hit. Not only are they reasonably priced, they are also delicious. They don't try to complicate things with a lot of sauces or crazy bread options like subway. Its simple, yet very effective. My favorite sandwich is the TULLIUS. They hollow out the core of the bread, so you can actually taste the sandwich, and they also let you KEEP that core! It's such a great little soup-dipper (their soups are to die for also. Broccoli and cheese is our favorite). Delivery was SUPER fast, and the guy who delivered was like...THE cutest delivery guy I had ever seen in my life. Tall, broad shouldered, and SMILED. Yep, definitely will order again. read more

I'm very disappointed I have never really gone out of my way to write a review let alone a horrible one. The girl that was working was rude. I am currently pregnant and noted by my dr, I can't have meat that is not heated. Granted I went in once before and a different girl was very understanding and heated up the meat for me. This time a different girl tells me there is no way to heat anything up and they can't do that when I claimed that I had it done before she told me that she doesn't work morning shifts and she couldn't do that for me. Last time I was there it was night time so I don't know how that was relevant. The girl from last time claimed that another woman who came in said she was pregnant as well and couldn't have meat that wasn't at least heated she was very understanding. As someone who has been in customer service for the better part of fifteen years. Tonite pissed me off pretty bad. I ordered a sub at 9:53pm. I called to check in it at 10:47pm and received it yet nearly ten mins later. I live like four blocks from the store but to be honest the cold isn't good for me and I've been restricted from being in it. So I tipped my driver 3-4 dollars. He delivered it and nice enough said sorry for the delay. This is bullshit. Some of the best subs in town without a doubt and I really enjoy going inside so I'll do that. I'm pretty steamed right now. I just can't begin to understand why? You got busy? So... I waited an hour for a sub. I recommend the food five out of five. Thing is at the end of the day and I mean it as someone who goes 110% in every aspect of what he does. You burn a major bridge with me with that type of service.
