I signed up for an in-person beginners Spanish class at the Manhattan location. It was a little…read morepricey in my opinion (plus you have to buy a separate book for the class from the store that is around $30), but I was so eager to grow in my skills I decided to sign up. I am someone who has a good base of Spanish under my belt, but for a beginners class this was very difficult. It felt very freeform/loose and I didn't feel we focused on grammar enough to speak in sentences (though we were expected to aloud in class). If you are someone who prefers structure, this is not the class for you. I attended every week until the last two courses because I felt I was not gaining anything, plus two of our classes got rescheduled due to the teacher's illness (not their fault, but I would've rathered a substitute as many of us travelled from BK for the class...) and we never received information about when they would be made up? I sort of feel like it was a waste for me The teacher was super nice and obviously very knowledgeable, but I think this class will not be a good fit for you unless it's just for a hobby or trying to memorize phrases for a vacation. It felt way too informal. If you are seriously trying to learn Spanish, I would not recommend and suggest you take your money elsewhere, though I cannot speak for my classmates or other language courses at this place

7 weeks (and just 7 classes) isn't a lot of time to learn a new language, but I'm surprised at how…read moremuch progress I made in such a short time. Eduardo was a fun and engaging Spanish instructor. Classes were well structured, but didn't feel overly rigid. I felt engaged the whole time. I went into this with intermediate skills in French, which definitely helped. The course is quite fast paced and covers a lot of ground. If you have no experience with a second language you'll definitely need to study harder to keep up. I used Duolingo for a month before the class and it definitely helped get me started with at least some knowledge. I wish there was a little more time for conversation and interaction between students, but I don't see how they could do it unless the class met twice a week. Overall I liked the format of the class and would recommend it!

LLS was our choice after touring about 15 preschools, and we do not regret it for one second. The…read moreapproach at just about everything at this preschool is with great care and thought for the children and intentionality. You can see it in the beautiful design of the space, but also in how the teachers approach anything that comes up with the children, be it potty training or even lunch time -- all the kids in my child's petite classroom read a poem together (all in French) thanking the world for the food they are eating before lunch and learn to take lunches out and put them back on their own. LLS encourages sustainability and teaches children about the beauty of our planet by maintaining a hybrid outdoor program, and encouraging whole fruits vs snacks in plastics. The children work with non plastic toys, they draw abstract art do as to not limit their young imaginations and go to school in a rhythm of songs and structure. We love LLS and highly encourage it for any parent, whether you're looking for French immersion or not!

I am admittedly a very nervous still fairly new mom, and can say with confidence that I know my child is safe and being well taken care of there. Challenging times usually reveal true character…read more.. In early March 2020, I paid Smith Street Workshop my son's 2020/2021 school registration fee of 3,500.00 US dollars. Less than a week later my family and I had to leave the USA due to personal circumstances caused by COVID-19. We permanently left the neighborhood where we were residing and departed to another continent. Roughly one month after making the deposit payment and more than 5 months before the school year started I requested a refund of my son's 2020/2021 school year deposit. After various email exchanges with the school owner, I requested a personal phone call. The call was avoided and the situation was addressed by the school's lawyer. To my surprise, given the global hardship felt by families around the world the school stated that the deposit will not be refunded. In fact, their legal team stated that the only compensation I will receive is the transaction costs charged when they received the deposit payment - how absurd. Like most families, we have a set amount of finances allocated for our son's education per year. Due to this unfortunate loss and lack of sympathy from the school, we will not be able to enroll our child in any school for the 2020/2021 school. I have committed to the full annual payment of our child's 2019/2020 school fees and understand that the school needs these funds to pay employees and running costs. However, it is incomprehensible that the school is reluctant to refund even a small portion of the deposit paid. This is deeply disappointing and I truly hope our child is the only one who will be affected by the school's actions.

I was drawn to the flameworking class because of the thoughtful expression of how the instructor, Saint, described the process of working with borosilicate glass in their class. Truthfully, I was so blown away by it all. Urban Glass has a beautiful community based inclusivity spirit and artist centered focus. The studio was well organized and vast. The staff and technical support team are friendly and helpful. Saint's class had a wonderful pacing to it for a 6 hour workshop. We got to know all of the participants and connect together in a fun way, had a few informative demos on equipment safety and glass techniques, and then got to creating! Han, another glass artist at Urban Glass assisted the class, and it was really great to be able to explore making marbles, small figurines on our own and also have Saint and Han jump in when we needed a bit of extra hands on help. I felt confident from the demos and my practice time to be able to rent space on my own after. Our class has stayed in touch since, and I know several of us from the class have been back to the studio since to create. I'm excited to return to explore and learn more!
