This is for my encounter with the bathroom attendant, who told me I'm only allowed to get one razor. I like a different razor for my legs and another for my armpits. For my $325+ a month, for which I don't even attend the gym that' much due to work from home, Equinox should not have someone obnoxious in the ladies locker room to limit amenities. I should be able to use as many razors as I want! Please stop this nonsense in the most expensive neighborhood in NY: Tribeca! It should also be noted that the shower water was ice cold for 4 minutes, so they should check on that, Also, I noticed an unusual amount of fallen hair in the shower. I was visiting from out of town, staying at a nearby hotel, and stopped by this $350/month gym just looking for a 1-day pass to get a quick lift in. Instead, I got an unasked-for tour that dragged on for nearly an hour. The guy barely paid attention, rushed through it like I've never seen a gym before, and by the time it ended, I had no time left to actually work out. They keep raising the prices, well over $15 this year and this place keeps getting more worn out. The showers are falling apart and the sinks have no aerators so they just spit out water. Some of the shower heads are broken or have a small stream. On the floor - you can see old ac and heating units in need of repair. I have been a member of this gym forever. It is always kept very clean and the equipment is in good working order. It is never real crowded when I go. On the negative side, I mostly use the elliptical machines and bikes and a little weights, but you get some people who come in throwing massive weights around and it feels like bombs are falling. The floor shakes and the sound is so loud even when you turn your volume to the max. They should have a separate area far away with extra padding to muffle the noise as it is really unsettling. Either be an upscale gym at these prices, or become a macho muscle place. But being both doesn't work. Also, can they please fix the water fountain in the women's locker room? read more

The worst equinox facility in the city. It's Small, Old machines, dirty and it has the least amount of amenities when compared to Soho or Brookfield. Perfect-It's always empty. You'll have the place to yourself before 6 AM and in the late afternoon.

Pretty standard gym. Lots of machines and you usually won't have to wait - only about 1/3 of them will be in use at about any given time. There's also a huge strength training area. I was told that the cycling studio would be open for anyone to use as long as there wasn't a class, but it was locked when I tried to go in, even though there was nobody inside. The locker room is pretty nice and well-maintained, but it can be hard to find a free locker depending on what time you go. The front desk staff seems pretty nice. read more

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews of this location but in any case I seem to have a good opinion of it. It's very clean and spacious and maybe the bad experiences are of when it's very busy or some other reason. It has plenty of equipment and the staff I find to be helpful if you need anything or have a concern. I try to visit this location when I can since the location is close to the train and other areas of interest such as coffee and meals afterwards if you want. Try to be careful with the usual busy times but aside from that it's a nice place to workout and shower, clean up afterwards. read more

Equinox Tribeca is a fairly mediocre facility relative to other Equinox locations such as in Soho or Columbus Circle. As a member for most of the time since its opening (ten years ago?) I am appalled at how little has changed at the gym. The facilities, including the equipment and the carpeting, look fully depreciated. And there is no real case to pay almost $200 a month to be a member at this uninviting gym, unless you plan to make extensive use of the bathroom--which is apparently the only updated part of the gym. Or if you live in 50 Murray, the apartment rental building that houses the gym. Until a year ago, my former employer paid for my Equinox charges (RIP to that century-old firm), but now that I have been incurring these charges, the pinch is especially hurtful. They lured me into expensive T4 personal training sessions in 2011, and would vary the trainers and rarely assign my favorite trainer to me. Once that chapter closed, they cleverly came in with a proposal for T3 sessions as being the answer, and I 'pass'ed. Here is the proverbial last straw. Recently, they sent me a survey where I pointed out the below-par aesthetics and also indicated that I am not happy with my fitness, with no attribution to Equinox (I am on the road and cannot stick to a half-decent diet or a reasonable exercise schedule). The manager wrote this as part of his reach-out based on my survey response--"While aesthetically, we are striving to make improvements in 2015, I would appreciate your feedback on other areas. It seems that you are not receiving the fitness results that you are looking for and this can not be only from aesthetics." Captain Obvious failed to respond to an email I shot back to him after I received his message. I have asked for my membership to be cancelled (note: I didn't realize they have a 45 day notice in their cancellation policy, notwithstanding my years of membership). If I wanted a basic gym of the ilk of this Equinox location, I could pay a fraction of what I am paying Equinox and go to the Crunch at 80 Leonard or the NYSC at 151 Reade. Or I could just choose to use the savings to buy more cheap Mexican dinners. *Note* I wrote to the business manager who commented on this review and offered to help me. Several days later, there has been no response to my message. While there is not much to be done to help me, I expected at least a courtesy response or apology. For the price that they're now charging, better and newer equipment would be helpful, and staff a bit more understanding as they tried to limit the number of towels last time. I changed this location recently I was concerned a about the lot of bad reviews but I do understand Why! I was there today without any notices there is no hot water I sitting in the steam room waiting for the steam usually I don't have luck with the steamer and actually that's the reason I chose equinox,but they always cleaning when I want to use it no hot water I wasn't able to shower either even I sit a little in the steam room without a steam so I was able to sweat a little!Hire more ppl to clean that area and maybe won't be a struggle for one ppl to clean the shower and steam area! But for over 300$ monthly payment I expect the hot water or shower availability specially around 6 pm when ppl finishes workout.I decide to give up at least 4 lady went to the shower so it's not just I was the only one if you guys shut off the hot water steam room not working put the sign give a notice to ppl to not waste ppl time!after that I'm not sure if I want to go this location!Ppl get ready for dinner and stuff ppl want to use shower And I totally understand the cleaning process is very important but still..I'm very disappointed with equinox !!!Not worth the price! read more

I typically frequent the Bond, Orchard, and Wall Street locations but recently found myself in the area, so I figured I'd try this one out. Note to management & corporate: this ain't it. Given the premium I pay for membership, I expected more. This location is in desperate need of a renovation, it feels dated and many of the machines are old. To add insult to injury, there was a shortage of weights and equipment available, so I found myself waiting around for things to open up. Staff was very friendly but nonexistent across most of the facility. The locker rooms and showers were clean overall, if a bit dated. I really enjoy my Equinox membership so it was surprising that this location was so poorly maintained, especially given its location. If this was Blink or Planet Fitness, I wouldn't mind, but at $235/month, I expect better. read more

Hello and welcome to my weird world of gym shower reviews. I'm on a roll now and I've visited so many Equinox locations at this point I feel like I have to discuss the differences somewhere. My friends won't listen to me anymore and my coworkers politely change the subject when I want to talk about really amazing showers. I'm gonna give Tribeca the benefit of a reasonable assumption that because I visited at a peak before-work hour, they couldn't keep up with cleaning during the shower traffic influx. The shower itself was good and big, but I was distracted because it was a little dirty with hair in the drain. My friend invited me here for a yoga class on Sunday morning, and I was surprised that there aren't that many of people. I have been to Equinox in midtown a couple of times however never this one in TriBeCa. In terms of facilities, they were a bit newer and better in condition I would say. But in general, Equinox is the next gym chain in NYC. I would say doing gym in this area definitely gave me much more incentives, as it was surrounded by numerous great small cafes for brunch. read more

The complaints about this place make me want to puke. *It is a gym, people workout, sometimes they sweat and that might smell- get over it. *Trash might hit the floor..boo f$%^king hoo *There might be dirt on the floor....Ohhh noo!! how can I possibly workout!! aww They have 2 real squat racks which is awesome, they have a good KB selection. And the overall weight selection and machines are all you really need. The instructors to the classes may be crazy, quirky, esoteric, whatever...that is life, people are different. It's not rocket science, if you don't like your body chances are a class is only 2% of that equation. If there is someone on your precious treadmill, JUMP ROPE or do jumping jacks. When your foot strikes the running belt it pulls your foot back- does that sound like a good workout. To be a hamster on a running wheel? Do you ever wonder why your posture sucks?? Do you think we were designed to move with machines? Do the people who have been running on treadmills often look healthy???? Hmmmm... Anyways enough ranting. For people who want to really workout, then this is a good gym. If it is too expensive for "what you get" then good, move along nothing for you here. read more

I love this gym! When I first visited, I was a bit hesitant because I had a preconceived notion that this would be a "snobby gym" where one might feel uncomfortable. I am happy to report that it was not and has not been my experience at all and I'm so glad! It is a high end gym that is very low key and I find that awesome. The Tribeca gym is nicely laid out and has a nice selection of equipment and space for stretching, foam rolling, etc. There is a wide variety of classes - spinning, yoga, sculpting, you name it. The staff is very friendly as well. The training staff is great - you can see them on the floor with clients trying all different kinds of fun stuff. The Women's dressing room (and Men's I'm certain) is clean and well maintained. The showers are also very clean and are well maintained by the staff. There are Kiehl's products throughout the dressing room and showers (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion). After your workout you can reward yourself with a cold eucalyptus towel and a smoothie from the smoothie bar on the 1st floor. Also, there is a spa on premises that offers a variety of services. This is really a full service gym. I'm hooked! read more

My experience at the 50th street Equinox was amazing, so after relocating downtown i expected a similar experience at the Tribeca location. Nothing could be further from the truth. The location was packed, dirty, and the trainers were overly aggressive in trying to sell, sell, sell. It was so frustrating to work out there, i simply stopped going two months before the end of my year long membership. I call to cancel, and was told that i had a one year commitment and that the cancelling would happen automatically at the end of the year. Fine, i did agree to it, and i can deal with that. But then, surprise, i get billed for a 13th month! And after calling to inquire about it to find out why, i'm told a completely different story from the manager. NYSC may not be the cleanest place, but at the very least you can expect to be treated like a human being and not like a wallet. read more

I needed to come out of Yelp retirement to write a review of the massage that I had here not two hours ago. I booked a last-minute first-time massage and was scheduled with Alexia, and I thank the high heavens that the receptionist randomly booked me with her. I didn't even think I was particularly jacked up/in need of a deep tissue massage, but I am so happy to have found her. I can't tell you how many massages that I've had in my life. When I am inevitably asked about what areas are troubling me, I always mention, in addition to my chronically tight shoulders and upper back, that my foot arches suck. And I have inevitably gotten disappointing and lukewarm treatments there. Until today. Alexia is the most intuitive therapist that I've had in a long time. She found every single trigger point/tight spot in my back and feet. The work that she did on my arches particularly was nothing short of revolutionary for me. She identified that my left foot was way, way more screwed up than the right, which was completely lost on me until she poked deep into the arch to find the trigger point. She spent almost half of the session just on my feet. Her deep tissue massage is not for the faint-of-heart - I was sweating and stopped just short of screaming from the pain throughout the entire 50 minute session - but she recognized that my tissues were chronically ropy and locked up and thus needed seriously tough love. She told me that she prefers deep tissue massages over Swedish or relaxation massages, and I can see why. If you, like me, have bad feet, run on over and see her. You may not be able to walk from the soreness for a bit afterward, but it will be worth it! read more

I had to choose this location instead of my regular Greenwich Ave spot for the sake of structuring a busy day, because, you know, while you gotta be a go getter and whatnot you also gotta do a little cardio. So, I roll up, whip out the ol' phone with the barcode proudly displayed. My body is ready. My mind is ready. I have everything I need. Except for a lock. Dude. I don't know about you guys, but I'm paying out my behind for this here premium membo, and because of that I expect a certain standard. Granted, it could be argued that I should have checked whether or not this branch has automatic combo locks, but literally every other location I've ever frequented has them. So, logically, why the hell would I need a lock this time? THESE LOCKER ROOMS ARE ANCIENT. No auto locks. I'm not about to buy a lock and have it collect dust after one use. That's plain wasteful. I've been to a number of the Equinox gym locations throughout the city and they are all very nice. The three I frequent most often are based on convenience of location: Tribeca and Wall Street because they're close to my apartment and Soho because it's one subway stop away from my office. This particular location is one of my favorites. It's larger than Wall Street, but doesn't have the hot tub (which is the only downside of this location). Locker room: Extremely clean as there are attendants continuously in there cleaning up, adding new fresh towels and picking up after the after class crowds of anorexics that need to use multiple towels for the whole 95 lbs of body mass they have. Classes: Will kick your ass. If you want to take a really great class, take 30/60/90. You'll be cursing me for telling you to take it throughout the 45 minutes of class time and thanking me afterward when you're able to eat all of those foodie burgers and gourmet grilled cheese you like... guilt free. Machines/Public Workout Space: It gets crowded - I won't lie. But, this is New York City, friends. Didn't you already know that everywhere is crowded? The machines are good, clean and I love the cold/wet towels in the mini fridges that smell like Vick's vapor rub. Juice Bar: Yum! This location has a different chain of juice bar than Soho and Wall Street. I like this juice bar the best of the three main locations I go to. Plus, I read in the Equinox blog that you're supposed to eat 200-300 calories worth of protein + carbs 30 minutes after you workout. Jot that down arex girls. read more

Do you like being surrounded by a dozen trainers and their clients at all times and paying over $2,000 a year for the privilege? If so, you'd love this Equinox. Me, not so much. On mornings and evenings, there are sometimes 15 trainers on the floor taking up loads of space and equipment and generally discouraging anyone from "working in". If you have any sort of day job, you're kind of out of luck. I asked the manager whether they have a limit on the number of trainers on the floor... surprise they don't. He also added that they have a very large roster of trainers at this point. Hard stop. No effort to change anything. The amenities aren't really worth staying for and the equipment is the same as NYSC. Again at upwards of $150 a month, Equinox is really not worth it and the annoyance of trainers and apathy of management was enough to make me leave. read more

Great location and very friendly staff. This location is usually not over crowded and the staff seem to remember you. Always trainers on the floor and staff making sure everything is clean. Like all Equinox clubs this is clean, modern, clean, packed with amazing equipment, clean, staffed with great trainers. Did I mention it was clean. Love that. The fitness rooms for yoga and cardio are roomy and have good climate control and very spacious. The trainers are all in great condition and very knowledgeable about all things fitness. There are 3 tiers of training so there's a variety of intensity in training and expertise offered. The equipment is state of the art, brand new. They seem to be updating everything frequently so it's rare that you'll be on a machine that seems over used or old. The membership is a little expensive but if you go often, take classes, use the sauna, and all facilities it's worth it. Also, for the parents, it's has a great day care. Best Things: Very, very, quiet after peak hours. Classes are great. Elixer bar downstairs. Worst Things: Unfortunately there are huge columns that make for many bad spaces to occupy in classes. Woah woah woah...I'm shocked at some people's bad reviews (I thought I was bougie...). I've been an Equinox member for years and joined Tribeca last year when I moved in the building. I've been to both Soho and Printing House locations and think this is right on par with both of them - minus, of course, the sick pool at Printing House. The classes are AWESOME! Barre, Yoga, Cycling, Best Butt Ever and so many more. They have something for everyone, not just chick classes. The machines are all brand new and I've never had to wait for any equipment. It takes up the entire second floor with so much natural light & it doesn't feel stuffy like a lot of other gyms. Everything is SO clean! Trainers are super friendly and don't try pushing their services on you. Gotta love the Kiehl's products & smoothie bar which you can find at most Equinox gyms. The only thing I wish is that they would let you use your rewards at the smoothie bar bc who is really buying workout gear at their apparel store? I've been a member for about 2 months. I joined specifically to get trained by a personal trainer. I'm 63 years old and train 2x a week. After just a few weeks, I could see big improvements. I haven't been to any other Equinox clubs, so I can't compare Tribeca to other Equinox clubs. This club is two blocks from my office, so it's super convenient. The club is always clean, the people who work there are all friendly, and the facilities are first rate. One of the things I like the most is that the gym is almost never crowded. I'm really surprised by the 1 star reviews given for stupid reasons. 1 person who did not join gave a 1 star, because she was offended that the sales rep tried to sell her a membership. How can you review a club you didn't join? That's just childish pique. Yelp should not allow such reviews. Any review that is more than a year old is no longer relevant, as things seem to have changed since then. Somebody complained because of the number of trainers. Odd complaint. I've never seen trainers bump members from machines. In fact, just the opposite. But look at it from the point of view of the people getting trained: they're paying a lot of money and like everything in life, if you pay more, you should get more. (This rule doesn't work when it comes to taxes, unfortunately.) About the price: less than my cable bill. I know Equinox is considered expensive, but if you use it regularly, it's an incredible bargain. Less than $7 a day. You can't even buy lunch for $7. In fact, the post workout smoothie costs more than the use of the club itself. If you go only once a month, it's expensive, but that's on you. Why 4 stars and not 5? I'm just not a binary reviewer where everything is 1 star or 5 star. Knowing that some of the other Equinox clubs are nicer, and I'm paying the same monthly amount, that alone is worth a star. I am usually too busy to write reviews the last time I wrote one was to alert people of a bad hairdresser. However, I know how hard its to find a good massage therapist. I belong to Equinox for many years now and never thought trying their spa, not sure why.... But a couple week sago I was in pain, I had this unbearable neck pain and decided to try Angel. Let me tell you this guy is literally an angel! He is young, sweet, caring and very strong he knows exactly how to massage in the right places, very intuitive. Most of the times i have to guide massage therapist either they dont get it or dont follow directions. With Angel, I didnt have to say anything, is like he almost read my mind. read more

Worst Equinox in the city. It is overrun with trainers trying to sell you on their services while you work out. At any given time there are at least 20 trainers hogging up machines and "reserving" the weights for use. It is hard to get through a work out either without having to wait on equipment or weights, or by having one interrupt you. It's disappointing that this Equinox offers the worst experience, in being what is one of the best neighborhoods in the city. Don't waste your time or frustration - go to Battery Park Green or Eastern Athletic. read more
