Not sure why there are so many bad reviews of this location but in any case I seem to have a good opinion of it. It's very clean and spacious and maybe the bad experiences are of when it's very busy or some other reason. It has plenty of equipment and the staff I find to be helpful if you need anything or have a concern. I try to visit this location when I can since the location is close to the train and other areas of interest such as coffee and meals afterwards if you want. Try to be careful with the usual busy times but aside from that it's a nice place to workout and shower, clean up afterwards.

Quite typical!

Equinox Tribeca is a fairly mediocre facility relative to other Equinox locations such as in Soho or Columbus Circle. As a member for most of the time since its opening (ten years ago?) I am appalled at how little has changed at the gym. The facilities, including the equipment and the carpeting, look fully depreciated. And there is no real case to pay almost $200 a month to be a member at this uninviting gym, unless you plan to make extensive use of the bathroom--which is apparently the only updated part of the gym. Or if you live in 50 Murray, the apartment rental building that houses the gym. Until a year ago, my former employer paid for my Equinox charges (RIP to that century-old firm), but now that I have been incurring these charges, the pinch is especially hurtful. They lured me into expensive T4 personal training sessions in 2011, and would vary the trainers and rarely assign my favorite trainer to me. Once that chapter closed, they cleverly came in with a proposal for T3 sessions as being the answer, and I 'pass'ed. Here is the proverbial last straw. Recently, they sent me a survey where I pointed out the below-par aesthetics and also indicated that I am not happy with my fitness, with no attribution to Equinox (I am on the road and cannot stick to a half-decent diet or a reasonable exercise schedule). The manager wrote this as part of his reach-out based on my survey response--"While aesthetically, we are striving to make improvements in 2015, I would appreciate your feedback on other areas. It seems that you are not receiving the fitness results that you are looking for and this can not be only from aesthetics." Captain Obvious failed to respond to an email I shot back to him after I received his message. I have asked for my membership to be cancelled (note: I didn't realize they have a 45 day notice in their cancellation policy, notwithstanding my years of membership). If I wanted a basic gym of the ilk of this Equinox location, I could pay a fraction of what I am paying Equinox and go to the Crunch at 80 Leonard or the NYSC at 151 Reade. Or I could just choose to use the savings to buy more cheap Mexican dinners. *Note* I wrote to the business manager who commented on this review and offered to help me. Several days later, there has been no response to my message. While there is not much to be done to help me, I expected at least a courtesy response or apology. Equinox wins my prize for adding insult to injury.

[This review is specifically for their downtown Brooklyn location]…read more This gym does not provide a safe environment for women. In the locker room, there are chairs directly facing the changing area. This invites patrons to sit on the couch, with phones in their face, directly facing members who are changing. Three separate times I have turned around, while unclothed, and seen members using phones that are pointing directly at me (including being on FaceTime). While most members would put their phone when asked, some won't, claiming that photography is not allowed, but phone usage is permitted. To be clear: A person holding a phone up in a locker room creates a reasonable fear of recording, regardless of what they claim to be doing. This is such an egregious violation of privacy, and honestly displays a lack of common sense from management. Further, it should not be the job of members to police one another; it should be the job of management to provide a safe place for changing before and after workouts. Management has so far ignored my messages about this complete lack of respect for privacy.

I visit NYC every so often for business trips, and have always struggled to find a gym I like that supports guest passes. I can happily say my search is finally over -- I'll definitely be coming back to GYM NYC every time I'm visiting the city! They sell 1-week passes for about $170, and day passes for $40. For me, it worked out better to get 4 day passes compared to the 1-week pass, but for those who would be visiting for a week and need to go 5+ sessions, that 1-week pass would be for you. Compared to EQX, the gym is way less crowded (even though it's smaller) and has all the equipment you need! The equipment is modern and plentiful: there are 2 flat bench press setups, one incline bench press, 3 deadlift platforms, and 4 squat racks. For accessory work there's also 3 adjustable flat benches and plenty of dumbbells. I usually go around 7am, which gets pretty crowded at EQX -- but this morning even by 7:30 there were still only a few other people in the gym. Amazing!

I joined this gym in January and its the best investment I've made this year, im a shitty day trader so thats not saying much. The Yoga studios are so peaceful and the instructors are all masters. Notably Jason Morris hot yoga classes are energizing and therapeutic, he is such a Guru Ive learned so much about anatomy and making a mind body connection that it spills over into weight training. Luliias voice is so soothing and her classes are so fun, the Friday class specially feels like everyone is connected Gigis class is super cool on Sundays it should be renamed Juicy Yoga with Gigi lol, shes so funny and connects with everyone, the class feels like cuddles after sex. Spin with Juggy and Melora is elite. Ive gotten so much faster in my road bike after just a few classes. Functional training with Nyerre Mays is un-unreal. He is such a cool dude and such a Pro. The pool is epic, the Jacuzzi forget about it. The entire staff is super friendly and makes everyone feel super welcomed. I truly feel at home whenever I make it to the gym. The MVPs of the gym are the cleaning staff though, everything is so spotless all the time. In a city so chaotic is nice to have this peaceful oasis.

By far one of the best Life Time Fitness gyms in NYC. Almost a hidden gem to be honest. Right in…read morefront of Madison Square Garden, you get a good view of the stadium and all the craziness happening down below to get into MSG. A lot of the Life Time locations in NYC are fairly small in size but so is everything else in town like restaurants, hotels, and retails stores. What I love about this location is that I feel like a lot of people don't know that it's here. I come and usually traffic is fairly light. Just avoid it between 5pm-7pm because the locker rooms are small and yes they completely fill up sometimes. Theres three floors: 1st floor is check-in, Pickleball courts (w/ beer & wine) on tap, second floor is cardio, a few studios and the LifeCafe. Third floor is weights, machines, locker rooms and a few other studios. The gym is very clean overall. People mind their own business, they get their workout in and get out. Which is great because you hardly ever have to wait around for a machine.

At one point a young girl politely asked how much time they had left and they responded "20-30 minutes," which makes no sense when the machines are set to run in 10-minute cycles. It was obvious the time limit was being completely ignored. It's incredibly disrespectful to monopolize shared amenities like that while other members are waiting their turn. I overheard that the girl went to the front desk and was told there is a strict 10-minute policy and that they would report it to operations upstairs. Lifetime memberships are expensive. Members should be able to use the amenities without watching others abuse the system and ignore clearly posted limits. Please hang signs that clearly state to not abuse the limit. It's okay if nobody is waiting otherwise it's disrespectful. Very disappointing.
