My husband and I had the best experience with equine escapes. Kelly is amazing and so so sweet! I was worried because I had never rode a horse before. Everything went great and she paired me well with my horse named Tinker. Tinker was well behaved and Kelly teaches you everything you need for the trail ride. There were multiple guides working with Kelly to help with the process. My partner and I already made plans for our second trail ride. I highly recommend equine escapes for your horse back riding needs!

It was a sunny day when I met Teddy. Teddy surprised me at first. Standing nearly 7 feet at the shoulder, he was quite intimidating. I brought a carrot with me and this giant softly took the carrot from my hands. See, Teddy is a Belgian Draft Thoroughbred horse. He is incredibly strong and weighs in at about 1900 lbs. To mount teddy I had to use a platform. Once aboard, I noticed teddy had some opinions. Mostly he was hungry and wanted to graze on the green foliage around us. Secondly, teddy doesn't like waiting. He would regularly take a big breath and then sigh if the other horses around him stopped walking for too long. He would also pause before going downhill, wait for the horses ahead of him to move out of the way, and then quickly catch up to them... all so he wouldn't have to pause on the hill. I scheduled a 2 hour ride and this was my first time horseback riding. The trip was really calm and maybe to some people boring. We traveled about 5 miles per hour along the trails, only stopping a few times. I would do this again, but would probably look for a little more speed on my second ride.

We just spent the most wonderful afternoon with Kelly and her herd of magical horses. We have done trail rides many times before, but this was different. It is extremely evident that Kelly has a special bond with each and every horse. They all adore her, and you can feel it! And she transfers that loving energy to you, as her guest. Today's ride was relaxing, peaceful, and spirited, in that you could truly feel that calm connection with each of the horses. They were the sweetest bunch and we didn't want to leave them. Each one has its unique personality --they were fun, cheeky, and just so darn cute. Kelly was so wonderful with each of my kids, taking her time to explain, teach, and ensure their safety and comfort. Her horses were extremely kid friendly and it was so cute to see them bond. It was truly a privilege to spend the day with them. Kelly is a gem and we are so happy to have found her. We look forward to our next ride with her and her beautiful, sweet horses!

Kelly was terrific. The horses are beautiful and kept in great shape. The equipment all looks in good condition. We have ridden on a few different trails and they are all nice and mellow. You can choose to run your horse a bit, but beware of boring or scared people in your group. They can break your good time. Equine Escapes makes your good time.

My fiance and I had a two hour trail ride this weekend with Equine Escapes and we had a fantastic time! Kelly was warm and professional and did a great job figuring out my groups' various experience levels and matching us with her horses. All of the horses were healthy and happy and clearly were enjoying themselves on the trail. I had Kid, a perky blonde boy who was sweet and snuggly. Fiance had Teddy, a giant majestic beast who had a gait like butter. Kelly was great at warning me to keep Kid from munching on all greenery during the ride and showing me how to keep him in check. The trail was beautiful and relaxing, with enough turns and up and downs to keep it interesting. There were a few straight grassy roads where I could get Kid to canter at a faster pace and really feel that literal horsepower. We can't wait to come back again!

Despite the rainy weather, we had so much fun today. I was with a group of four. The other three riders were pretty inexperienced (one had some lessons as a kid and for the other two, this was their second ride ever). I have been riding all my life but since I don't own horses, I'm always searching out trail rides. I've probably been on 50+ rides with various companies and this one is in my top 3 (behind Hawaii and Victoria, BC). We met up at a trailhead not far from the Hobart/Issaquah exit on highway 18. Kelly's horses were all very well behaved and she spent ample time making sure that we were all on the same page, got to know a little bit about our horses and the best ways to treat her horses with respect. We were offered helmets and one of our riders accepted. We had a relaxing and fun ride. I rode Teddy, a 17 hand Thoroughbred/Belgian. I loved him. He was a big horse with such an enjoyable rocking gate. My friends road Tinker, Trinity, and Dakota. They all really liked their horses too. We tipped Kelly $30 for showing us a great time. I would definitely recommend Equine Escapes for a fun trail ride. For those who had bad experiences, if you are feeling uncomfortable or would like a helmet, please speak up. Make sure you ask questions and understand the basics before you start out. I can only imagine how hard Kelly's job is while trying to keep both the riders and horses safe. She checked in with us often to see how we were feeling. My horse tripped once and she asked to make sure I was ok. Horses are animals and no amount of training can make riding a horse 100% predictable. I would hate for a friend to be scared of riding after falling off or to get hurt but I also know that is what I have signed up for.

At Brackenhollow, we've found exactly what we were looking for: real experiences with horsemanship and people who are happy to share their knowledge. A major highlight for my daughter is the Brackenhollow Pony Club, which offers an incredible extra curriculum. It covers everything from unmounted horse care and bandaging to rally prep, providing the deep technical knowledge that is so hard to find elsewhere. Not only have our riding skills improved under the guidance of incredibly kind and knowledgeable instructors, but we've also deepened our hands-on experience by working at the barn. The best part is that you get out what you put in - whether you want to be deeply involved in the 'gross and glorious' side of horse care or just enjoy your weekly ride, there's a place for you. You can be as involved as you want to be. The instructors are amazing, the students are supportive, and it is completely down-to-earth rather than overly competitive while also offering competition experience if desired (my daughter just started showing in jumper events last summer). We are so happy we found our home here!

Seattle Farm is a privately owned 20-acre property, and I'm pretty sure it's the only farm within city limits. The place is beautifully maintained and feels like a hidden gem. No cows or chickens, but there are plenty of horses. We came during pumpkin season and paid $25, which covered both parking and admission. Big parking lot, easy access. At the barn you'll find several horses, and feeding them hay was a hit for both kids and adults. The darker horse was especially affectionate - kept rubbing its head against us, super sweet. You can also pay extra for horse/pony rides; they are all calm, well-trained, and come in various sizes. There's a food area with picnic tables where you can grab hotdogs and drinks. The pumpkin selection isn't as large as farms farther out, but still enough. It's great to see a place like this still operating in the city, and it's definitely worth supporting to help keep it going. I think they also host private events like birthday parties and weddings, and offer dedicated horseback-riding lessons - you'll need to call for details. Awesome family-friendly spot. We'll definitely be back next year!

I have had a lot of questions and a lot to learn about showing and formal riding. Tom has been a wealth of knowledge and patience and his life long love of horses is evident every time he steps in the barn. I have worked with 3 trainers over the past few years and have found Toms quiet but firm method to be very very successful with the Arabian/Saddlebred horse I am riding. Additionally, my 5 year old son who has been around horses all his life begged for lessons. Tom agreed to give him a half lesson and has been wonderful with my very talkative boy who spends at least half the time in the saddle telling the horse how much he loves her. It takes a patient and kind person to manage that. He trotted for the first time last week very nicely, is sitting properly and has a great position in the saddle. Amazing. This stable is not the newest, fancy place you can find but the facilities are always clean, secure and the horses are happy. (Frankly, all of the horses I have been around at the stable have had great manners etc.) I would suggest that anyone looking for a family friendly barn with a great expert trainer check out Mt Si Stables!

The owners, Barbara and Dalton were so nice and down to earth, They are true animal lovers just like we are. They have over 20 horse, 3 dogs, 2 mules and they offer it all. This isn't your 1 hour trail ride up a dirt road and back. This ride is 3 to 4 hours long, through trees, down what looks like animal trails in the woods, you criss cross through the woods and clear cuts in the Skykomish River Valley then you head up mountain to this amazing lookout and have lunch. I rode a wonderful gelding named Bernie. Bernie's a Missouri Fox Trotter and he was super sweet. Chris rode Comet, she's a Tennessee Walker. Chris said she floated. You can see for miles up on "the rock". When you look down into the valley and see just how far you have ridden, you are amazed. Dalton said it is probably 5 miles. The lunch is amazing, it's from the Sultan Bakery and it is one of the best lunches I've had. Sitting up on the rock just me, Chris, and Dalton was so relaxing. We became instant friends. Stillwater Ranch offers a variety of rides that include river rafting, fishing, moonlight rides, overnight camping and much, much more. You can ride in all seasons - We are looking forward to a winter ride when the valley is covered in snow. They are even starting a wine dinner ride - woo hoo. The next time we need an equestrian fix, we will look to Stillwater Ranch to supply it.
