A little piece of heaven in the middle of the city…read more I have great memories of showing here as a teen and young adult and often hang out with my riding friends who are club members. The grounds are beautiful and they have done a ton of upgrading over the years. It's a lovely venue for shows and you can't beat burning around the track or polo field. I love coming here because the clubhouse building reminds me of a British clubhouse where folks would come in for a nightcap after fox hunting. It's super cozy in the winter and nice and cool in the summer. If you have never been here, come to the Country Fair in the fall or swing by and watch a horse show. This is an amazing piece of land with a lot of history. I hope it stays around for years to come!

That said, if you're coming here expecting a true pumpkin patch experience, you might be a little disappointed. The admission fee is $12-13 per person, which basically gets you access to walk around pet the farm animals, walk on some veggie gardens. There isn't an actual pumpkin patch where you can wander through the field to pick your pumpkin, it became a construction zone. Instead, it looks like someone just scattered small pumpkins around the grounds, and you "pick" one on your way out. The big pumpkins are expensive. WOW. Truly, it's fine for little ones who just want to see animals and get outside, but not worth it if you're looking for that classic fall pumpkin-patch feel. We wandered for 10 to 15 mins. Picked our 'free' pumpkins. In short, great for families and kids, but not for anyone chasing a full pumpkin-patch experience.

Horses were always well looked after. Summer camps were very popular and always busy and lessons were also very popular. The only reason we stopped was because they moved from Vancouver to Lumby... but we've visited and it's right back into riding and the enjoyment they make of riding and being around horses. I had enrolled them in riding lessons, and found all kinds of small animals in tiny, filthy cages all over the property. Some ferrets who had been kept in the dark tack room froze to death. Small animals need to be indoors, and given cooling ice packs or fans in such hot weather, and heat in winter. I am sad and furious. I also found out that Nancy Brook is not a certified riding coach. For $80/hour and teaching all these children, I expect that. I guess that explains the dry, cracked leather on the saddles and bridles. A horse savvy friend told me how dangerous that is. Leather needs to be oiled regularly so it doesn't break. Glad to be out of there.

It has one old but decent indoor arena; one large, covered ring for hunter-jumpers; and several jumper and dressage outdoor rings. The facility offers a small but beautiful eventing course, although with all the rain Vancouver gets, it's only open for use a few months of the year. The wood chip track surrounding the property is what makes this facility especially special. Throughout the day, you can spot horses and riders happily hacking around the track taking in the lovely scenery. Unfortunately, like the entire equestrian sport, Southlands Equestrian Centre is meant for the elite. The centre has extremely expensive membership fees. Even their winter daily drop-in fees are ridiculously priced at $40.00 per ride if you are a southlands local. (it is cheaper if you are shipping in from outside Vancouver).

We fed turkeys, small pig, donkeys, llamas, peacocks, bunnies, and guinepeags. I got hugs from the goose and kisses from snow (horse) as well as back tickles from the other horse. This was an experience like no other. I will be back here if I am ever in the Sunshine Coast. The tour guide was incredible and kind as well as knowledgeable on everything.

First off each of us got a container of feed so we could feed all the animals we met along the tour. There were pigs, peacocks, horses, donkeys, chickens, bunnies and much more. The highlight for the kids is when you get to sit down in the bunny room with carrots and have the cutest bunnies jump all over you. Even had a baby piglet and baby turkey fall asleep in my lap. Highly recommend a visit, it's a great deal and experience.

Very awesome at listening without judgement and very encouraging. She indulges me in my offbeat sense of humor which is appreciated. I feel good after her sessions with new goals and ideas that I worked out myself through openly talking and with her asking appropriate questions to get me thinking a little bit more outside the box so that I can creatively come to my own conclusions. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition about six years ago and although I have a relatively mild case it was definitely on my mind when I was out in the dating world. I only wish I had Kira's book back then. It's worth reading for sure!
