Read the reviews. Take them seriously. They do not care about their customers. I went in for a foil/cut and color. Asked that there be no red. Natural brown color with blondish lowlight. Came out bright red. They do not show care or concern. They of course offer to fix it when it should have been right the first time. No one has three more hours to get it fixed. My stylist knew I was headed out of town. Easy to offer when your client won't be there to accept the offer. People don't have the time to return to a hairdresser they don't trust. My back was soaked from laying in a bowl for half an hour. I suspected something was wrong, as this is very unusual. I left in a wet shirt, hair dye all over my neck, and face and hairline . Which I have photos of Martina . Very rookie to let a customer leave like that. Very unprofessional. I was told I would be given a discount but when that number came up I was not told that you keep the $50 deposit fee. I was charged $148.00 for a botched job which they should refund. I however, have read the reviews. I don't expect to ever see this returned. I never received a style. Why after a bad color would anyone sit expecting to see their hair beautifully styled. Changes won't happen until this owner sees how frustrating this could all be for a client. After reading the reviews myself after this experience, I can see that wont happen. Upon entering you can clearly see that the interior needs a facelift. The water in the rinse bowl flips back and forth from scalding to cold. I was in the bowl so long that other stylists were making fun of my stylist for using up all the hot water! I left so upset, I had to sit in my car and calm myself down. As a 48 year old woman , I can tell you, it takes a lot to get me to that place. The swearing between the stylists was gross too. Letting a few loose here and there. I get it. Scheduled a facial here while I was on vacation. 5 stars for Kailie! She was so sweet and did a great job on my 90 min facial. My skin felt so refreshed and renewed afterward. You could tell she was passionate about what she does and cared about me as a client. I thought the price was super reasonable for what I received. The booking system was also very easy and I was able to book online the night before. Online booking is very helpful when you are on vacation and plans are changing depending on weather. My only recommendation would be for the salon to update the branding. You can tell it's a popular place with the older crowd. Updated logo, refreshing the waiting area with some paint or more modern decor could help this place attract some younger clientele. Also try partnering with a few local upscale/newer hotels and offering discounts could bring in more traveling clients for skincare treatments! read more

My experience here was awful. I wish I could give them 0 stars. We were about to move from Michigan to South Dakota, and I wanted to get a little pampering done. I had an extremely busy week coming up before we moved. I had finals week for college, my brother's wedding in a different city, and my son's first birthday party, all while still working and taking care of my son and packing our house. I decided to take time for myself to go in and get my hair done and be pampered. I went in for a color correction to return to my natural hair color, and I came out with about the same color with HOT ORANGE ROOTS. When I told the stylist, Sommer, and the manager, Martina, they said it would look better in natural light by the window. I did, and my roots were still hot orange. They both told me it would "fade out." I said it didn't really bother me that the bottom was almost the same color, but it did bother me that the roots were hot orange. They said it would be fine. I contacted the owner, and she told me that they could fix it if I came back in, but I had no free time at all. I asked for a refund so I could get it fixed somewhere else, and she said they would not do a refund. After arguing back and forth with the owner, she said they had offered to fix it while I was there free of charge. That was never an offer nor was that communicated to me, because obviously, I would have had them fix it then and there. My friend who is a stylist instructor in California called Martina to talk to her to see what had happened and why my hair was so awful. She talked her through it, and she realized mistakes were made to make my hair orange. Skylar, the instructor, said if one of her stylists made a mistake like that, she would have them pay half to fix it. Martina said she would call me or my friend back once she talked to Sommer with an update. No callback. No communication. No refund. I am extremely disappointed in this business. My experience at this spa was just okay. I was treating myself after the sale of my house and wanted to get a leg wax and pedicure. Overall the experience was just kind of average. The wax was professional, however, after looking a little closer the following day there were quite a few stragglers. Additionally, the pedicure wasn't as relaxing as I would have liked. The massage went on for so long it had the same effect as if someone were poking you over and over and over (you get the idea.) The prices were also a bit higher than I would have liked. I've been to other places in some of the other cities I've lived and had much better experiences. Since I sold my house, it's unlikely that I will return to this place. However, even if I did live in town, it's unlikely that I would return to this spa. read more

All the men in my family agree and as you know, men rarely even notice when we gals get our haircut. I was amazed with this place from the moment that I walked in. Great location, very accessible and the inside looks super professional. All the staff was exceptionally nice to me. My stylist was Mallory, she was AMAZING. She was so kind and she consistently made sure that I was comfortable. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she did the exact thing. I was honestly stunned. This is by far one of the best salons I've been to in Traverse City; and I've been to a lot haha. This place was super affordable as well. Arrived for appointment, waited 10 minutes only for manager to tell me that because the practitioner named on the gift certificate is no longer working at that salon, they can't honor the g.c. . Despite 2 attempts to explain that from a customers perspective the practitioner doesn't matter, the gc should still be honored, manager didn't budge. No facial for me. Really this should be 4.5 stars, with a 1/2 star docked for the dreadfully dated style I was given for a wedding--it aged me about 10 years. That being said, I take off my glasses when getting my hair done and I am blind as a bat so it's always a surprise at the end; it really was up to me to keep track of what was going on and I could have told the stylist I wasn't satisfied, but I chose not to and that's my problem, not hers. So, now that the not-so-great is out of the way: my stylist, Andrea, was maybe the nicest, most personable and fun-to-chat-with stylist I have EVER had. She was a blast and it was a pleasure to spend time with her. She genuinely cares about her profession and her clients. She did my makeup as well, which I would give maybe an 8/10. Not quite as good as Venus or Mary at Tonic, but still great. Everyone I ran into at the salon was very nice and they were excellent hosts for the wedding party. The location is awesome, too--right on Front Street with a nice view of the bay across the way. read more

The decor in the salon isn't necessarily my favorite--it's dark and gloomy--but I'm very happy with the way my hair turned out!!! I had just gotten a lot of foils to fix my previous hair color and it worked out perfectly! The staff was friendly and helpful too. Elise is a fantastic stylist and she's so fun and easy to chat with. I will most definitely be returning and asking for her again. Horrible experience. Made an appointment for a haircut and a massage. Had a nice massage a good experience. When it came time for the haircut The stylist was not ready for me yet so I waited in the lobby. I waited and waited and waited. I told the receptionist that I was loading up more money into my parking meter. After I returned, The receptionist then told me that The stylist I had booked an appointment with was no longer able to fit me in. I had no apologies, no offer to make it up to me, just told I could come back in four hours and maybe they could squeeze me in. Not happening when I live 30 miles away and was paying for daycare by the hour. I will now ask my husband, who spend hundreds of dollars on gift certificates, not to buy one from here ever again. read more

This spa is a BIG disappointment. I had a massage (if you want to call it that), a facial, a mani and a blow dry/curl. I've had a lot of massages in my life and this was among the worst I've ever had. There was absolutely ZERO pressure, I'd have told her, but she never asked if it was OK. She never put the bolster under my legs, and didn't know how to effectively move the sheet. She also never touched my thighs or my arms. The whole time I was thinking "is this serious? This girl can NOT be trained," then low and behold, she walked out and went over to do someone's hair. I can honestly say I've never seen a massage therapist/hair stylist, aka I'd bet anything she's not a massage therapist, which would explain my 50 minute back scratch. My facial was pretty good. She didn't do any extraction, but other than that, it was great. My hair was curled and that lasted about 7 seconds. We went to lunch after and someone asked what treatments I'd had done/ I told her I had my hair curled and she laughed... unfortunately, I was serious. I also heard the girl make a rude comment about curling my hair - "I'm going to but I don't want to." Which is unprofessional in itself, but when a group of 8 girls are spending $200 each, you might consider being a little more careful when you talk trash. I wouldn't recommend this spa to anyone, ever. read more

Seriously just had the best day there! Waxing by Karen, where she took her time to make sure my eyebrows were just perfect. Then a 90-minute Relaxation Massage by Nancy. Seriously, the greatest massage I've ever had! Lastly, a 60-minute Botanical Skin Refining Facial, back with Karen. My only regret was not getting the 90-minute facial!!! Had my hair done for my wedding and it turned out great....had my makeup done and it was awful. Hair 5 stars. Makeup 1 star (if that). First off, the girl who did my makeup acted if she knew everything, however I had to have my friend come and help! Asked for contouring and highlighting and said she would...but didn't. I don't actually see how one would look at my makeup after it being done and think I was ready for the biggest day of my life. It was my first time getting my makeup done too and I was THOROUGHLY disappointed. Do not get your makeup done here; completely lackluster. read more

I've heard great things about this salon since moving to Traverse City so I thought I would give it a shot with a cut and color. Unfortunately the stylist I was booked with had no idea how to manage my hair. I have very thick hair, she did not anticipate the amount of color needed as well as time processed and as a result, fried most of my hair. I think that the atmosphere in the salon is lacking as well and didn't feel anyone that I spoke with was very friendly. Seemed like there were a lot of regulars that were being treated well but I can't say the same for me. Maybe it was an off day, but I won't be going back. read more

Booked a wedding package here for my wedding. While I LOVED my hair, that's where the warm fuzzies stop. My girls were not thrilled with the quality of make-up (I could have done mine better on my own as I helped the girl who did mine because she was too timid or wasn't experienced, I don't know. Even though when I made my appointment they assured me their makeup gal had worked fashion in NYC.) What I found really upsetting was one of my bridesmaids had a horrible hair-do AND make-up. So bad that when we came back to my house she took a shower and re-did everything herself. She looked amazing in the end, but it was still disappointing to see her look that awful and to have paid for it. In the end I should have gone with my gut and had my hair done but done my own make-up at home. Despite being assured it would last all day, it didn't make it to the ceremony. Just sad. read more

My boyfriend and I went to their North location last fall for couples massage. I was told when booking the appointments that they could not accommodate two deep tissue massages at the same time, but they could do one Swedish and one deep tissue at the same time. So I booked it as such, with him getting the deep and me the Swedish. The ladies giving us our massages were super friendly and took care of us, however, we each received much "lighter" than Swedish massage. It was very disappointing. Especially since he was booked for a deep tissue. We were charged for two Swedish massages at least...but considering I was very specific on the phone, booking the appointments a month in advance, you would think they wouldn't have made that mistake. The building is very nice and the different areas are nice. Also, the woman at the front desk was unfriendly with us. I was never a fan of the salon, the front desk staff is unattentive and it is dark and dated inside, but I LOVED Cindy, so I stayed. However, last week I had an appointment with her, but when I got there after already waiting a half hour I was told that she wasn't there and that I could get a cut with another stylist. I had already waited and really needed a cut, so I went ahead and did it. It was not good and she wasn't listening or didn't know how to do what I was asking for. I was there for a long time and still left disappointed. I found out a few days later that Cindy has actually moved over to Impres Salon. I scheduled an appointment with her to fix my hair (which she did) and didn't bother to go back to Epiphany to try again at fixing it. I don't know why they didn't just tell me that my stylist had left the salon in the first place and still charged me full price for a cut I was not happy with. read more

Sadly, this salon advertised a special rate for first time clients so I made the appointment for our foreign exchange student and confirmed the special price, however after her hair was cut they told us the special was off and the price was double. I calmly explained that we were told about the special when we booked and told that would be the price so they should honor their special price but they would not and they said the receptionist had been mistaken. I spoke to the manager and her response was "its not that much more and she got a really good cut". She had completely missed the point! We had no other choice but to pay. Not sure we would have gone back anyway, the place was bitterly cold, staff all looked miserable, and I helped myself to a cup of their luke-warm tea--blah! I recently paid for a $59.00 pedicure. This is supposed to be their deluxe pedi. Here is the negative...it was not worth the money. The massage part was simply running her fingers around on one foot and almost not at all on the left. When I pay $59. for a pedi, I expect a massage from knees to toes with effort on the part of the technician. Because of this, I wont go there again. Now for the positive...the salon is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. I think the pedicure was way over priced considering what happened. They will take care of you, period. Make sure if you are getting a haircut that do your research on the stylists. Each salon employee seem to have their specialties, and if you go the the website you can see who the "masters" are in their trade. I did not do this, and ended up getting a haircut I was not happy with. I contacted the owner about the cut, and she made it a point to get me back there as soon as possible so that she could personally fix the cut. She took me in on a Sunday, when they are closed, and spent her own time perfecting my hair. Not only did she fix the problem by giving me the best cut I think I've ever had, but she put a free haircut on my account and followed up with me the next day to make sure I was satisfied. I am beyond impressed, any business who owns up to their mistakes and makes it right is a winner in my books. read more

Very disappointing salon - they used to be so much better. I started going to Epiphany 13 years ago but my stylist left so I followed her. Decided to try Epiphany again and I went in for a haircut last spring with the owner/manager and got barely a trim for $70. I wanted quite a bit cut off and she said it needed to grow more. So months later I came back and again wanted several inches off. Once again got barely a trim, same cost. It was the worst cut I have had and thought I was getting a master stylist. Don't go if you want a good salon cut. I definitely don't recommend. Other Aveda salons are much better. read more

New to area I made an appointment with a "new" stylist. It was not made clear if she was new altogether or new to the salon, but as she began to take care of me it became clear she was a new stylist. Sadly she had no clue what she was doing. Color applied poorly, terrible cut & not at all what I asked for & terrible blow drying skills. I stayed calm & patient for over 2 HOURS until I could stand it no more & asked her to stop. I left there looking like a bowl had been placed over my head. I was told owner would call me the next day to correct the situation. Owner or manager did call & defended the stylist. No corrections were ever made. I paid my entire bill & never received a refund. Had to go to a REAL salon to see a REAL stylist the very next day. He was not able to correct the color @ that time due to the damage she had done. I will never return there & suggest you go elsewhere. read more

Laura did an amazing job. I have not had a good salon experience in 7 years. Laura changed that for me. I made an appointment at the last minute and went in to make a drastic change (from blonde to brown). She listened to what I wanted, took her time and supported me through the process (explaining what she was doing and what to expect). She was very patient as well as I brought my three year old with me. I would recommend her and will go back to her in the future. I don't take recommendations lightly. She is excellent! Very disappointed in service and quality of haircut. Each year my husband gets me a gift certificate to Epiphany ay and I usually get a haircut, massage, or both. They provided a wonderful hot stone massage many years ago, but that service stopped. One haircut was with a younger inexperienced gal. I have naturally curly hair, very thin and fine. She insisted on straightening it although I have never straightened my hair due to looking like a drowned rat. I told her I preferred to have it curly. She said that she couldn't give me an even cut if it was left curly. I left with straight hair and it looked horrible. The final time I visited Epiphany was for a cut and massage. The massage was fine and the girl was sweet and professional ...no hot stones ,though. I had a haircut scheduled following my message. As I waited and waited and waited for my hairstylist(over 30 min), I was continually told it would be just a few more minutes. I finally had to go put more money in the parking meter so I told the receptionist what I was doing and that I'd be right back. Right after feeding the meter and returning to the lobby I was informed the stylist I was scheduled to see would not be able to fit me in but I could come back at 4:00 ( it was 11:30). I was furious as I had a scheduled hair appointment , was paying for daycare by the hour and don't live in Traverse City - so hanging out for 4 hours was not possible. Needless to say I used the gift certificate to pay for the massage and some hair products and will never return again. Ever. read more

I am very disappointed with the treatment here at Epiphany. I originally went to treat my mom while we were on vacation out of state, and even though it was pretty pricey, I figured I would splurge for her and me. The workers and ambiance of the place were both very nice, but the gel manicure I received seemed to be sort of thick and far from the edges. I had never had one before so I figured it was normal. However, after only a day the polish began to peel and come off, to the point where after two and a half days I had to take it off. I asked for my money back, saying that they could keep all of the tip and the money for the pedicure, but that I just wanted what I paid for the manicure. They have continued to insist on giving me a certificate, despite the fact that I don't even live in the same state and do not know if I will be returning. I ended up getting a great gel service in my own town for 2/3 of what it costs here. Expensive, messed up my nails, and won't even give me my money back. Definitely would not recommend. read more
