I have been treated by two oncologists at Epic Care Antioch. Both refused to investigate whether my…read moresudden affliction with diabetes was treatment induced. They said they didn't know what caused it, but that it definitely was not caused by the treatment they had given me. Both Dr. Pillai and Dr. Tong remained hostile toward me because I doubted their professional opinion. I have a new oncologist now. All of my doctors now attribute my new diabetes as a side effect from cancer treatment. I was right. It was obvious. These two doctors are some very disturbed men who become aggressive and adversarial if their poor skills are questioned and the poor skills do abound. I am convinced I would be dead if I had continued to be treated by Epic Care in Antioch. I swear that I am speaking the truth. If you value your life then you need to stay away from these strange men.

Dr. Pillai is an uncaring, rude, bigot. My dad has lung cancer and was just treated for a PET scan,…read morewhen he saw Dr Pillai. My dad was fatigued at the appointment and confused due to some medicine. My mom accompanied him to assist him and Dr Pillai ignored her, belittled her, and yelled at her multiple times. He only wanted to talk to my dad and yet interrupted him when he spoke slowly. When my mom told Dr Pillai to not interrupt my dad he became irritable. He rudely shushed my mom various times when she was asking reasonable questions about possible treatment and timelines. I was on the phone on the other line listening to everything. English is not my mom's first language and she was trying her utmost best to understand him but he was completely unpleasant and exclaimed that he won't change his personality to accommodate patients. He yelled "We're done here!" at both my parents. Either Dr Pillai is misogynist, xenophobic, or just hates his patients. If you're thinking of going to Epic Care please look for other options or at least try to be assigned to a different doctor. Cancer is hard and heartbreaking, there's absolutely no need at all for your oncologist, of all people, to make things worse.

Dr. Wilson Tong would not be my first choice in recommending a doctor to a friend with Cancer. He…read morewas my Oncologist for 7 months. He didn't have the skill, knowledge or education in order to treat the rare type of cancer I suffer from. Though he did say he had some experience, he wanted to defer every aspect of my treatment to my other Oncologist at another office. Though he gives out a professional profile on Epic Care's website that Oncology is personal to him due to family members dealing with the disease. You would never know that fact by his bedside manner. I would never treat a family member with cancer the way he treats his patients. He has a nervous, boyishly shy demeanor, (doesn't look you in the eye while talking)and will promise you things in his office fulfilling your requests. However, becomes aggressive and underhandedly arrogant at other times when you're not in person. He's fairly new to the Epic Care Antioch staff, and its my opinion that he is the worse asset for that team. He's insensitive, unsympathetic and nothing you'd expect from a caring Oncologist. He doesn't TREAT his patients, he passively observes and allows other clinicians to do all the work. He will not support your input and allow you to be a partner in your health care decisions. It is very difficult to begin with one Oncologist but having to switch because things didn't work out. He never contacted me to hear what my concerns were or how he could improve my experience with him. Now, since I'm still a patient at Epic Care he stares me up and down as if this is a street fight. I hold my head up knowing I made the right decision to let him go. And that I have gained clinicians that are real Oncologists that truly care about my well being, and show it. Cancer is hard enough to go through, do not add this inadequate doctor to your "dream team" of healers. Heed my warning and avoid Dr. Tong while battling cancer. He won't last very long at Epic Care if more patients honestly see him for who he really is and boldly speak up. Shame on him for taking advantage of people while they are suffering and in their most vulnerable stage.

Dr. Tong is professional, compassionate, always there when we needed him. There wasn't a single part of her journey he wasn't involved in. If he was taking a quick trip or short vacation he always made sure we knew exactly what to do and who to contact, who would be on call, signs and side effects to be aware of, etc. He never once left us with unanswered questions of expected outcomes or how to deal with them. Every transfusion, scan, chemo, radiation, every little detail he was there and I mean right there for us. I can never adequately explain how dedicated he was throughout her 14 month journey. He never gave us false hope, honored every single one of my mother's wishes, and never questioned her ability to fight her disease to the best of her ability. Meeting this man changed our lives forever. The World's Greatest Doctor.

Frankly I'm surprised that there are no reviews for Dr. Chao. Stunned actually. I'll try to be…read morebrief, but there is a lot to say about this exceptional physician, not to mention the exceptional staff. Long story short, I've fought metastatic prostate cancer for 5 years. I've typically only followed about 50% of what oncologists have suggested, much less so after the initial year. My case is "unusual" nor has it seemed to follow a normal pattern for aggressive PCa and since my goals are a bit different than many men's goals and that I'm younger than most PCa survivors, I'm not like treating someone 70 or 80 years old. Dr. Chao, aside from being really good at what he does {I mean REALLY GOOD at what he does}, is in the top 6 or so physicians (PCPs included) in my life in terms of understanding, humanity and compassion. He listened to my fears and anxieties. He took them seriously. We jointly figured out how to address them and he got the SpaceOAR gel implanted as well as 4 fiducial markers placed in my prostate. Now I can move forward with radiation therapy that will improve my quality of life. I may have Dr. Chao and his eminently qualified staff do my radiation, but I may also have another RadOnc and staff do it.....to which my friend and physician, Dr. Chao, said think about it because while we can do your particular short series here, this other clinic might suit your needs better. Regardless, we're here for you. That's the kinda guy Dr. Kenneth Chao is. I've never gotten the impression that he cared about anything other than treating me with the utmost, thought, professionalism, skill and empathy. And he did so and did so seemingly masterfully. Then there is his office staff who did a great job of staying on top of all this until it was approved. All of them so kind, so understanding, so patient. 5 stars. Yup. And I don't do that lightly. Dr. Chao and staff are superb. SLM
