This is a tough place to review. You don't often turn to your partner and say, 'Hey, feel like hitting the Entertainment Centre tonight?' And when you DO come here, you don't often have a choice in the matter. A band has the good-will to visit Adelaide, and this is where they'll play. All the big shows that make their way to tiny old Adelaide are usually hosted here.
The space is fairly flexible, and I've seen quite a few different incarnations. It's your typical function centre, though. If it's a band playing, there's a stage, a pit and some surrounding seats. If it's an exhibitions, the floor will be flat, the stalls'll be placed about the area as you'd expect.
All the drinks and snacks are cinema-priced, which means you ought to stay away from them if you've just spent upwards of a hundred dollars on your ticket.
But aside from all that, if you've come here for a function, you'll be paying attention to the function. This particular venue won't hurt your experience, but neither will it make it any better.
And this is an odd grip, perhaps, but I've always found it curious that the exterior is so grand and glorious to behold when all the important stuff is happening inside. It does a good job to psych you up while you're waiting to get in, I suppose. And we have to do our best to impress our international guests. read more
