Horrible service and experience…read more I rented a car using a free day coupon and I was assured by the manager it would be covered and not to worry about my bill (which showed a charge on it). I walked out skeptical, but figured it was the manager, I should be okay. I checked my credit card statement and of course was billed for the day. I called in to talk with a rep at the office and my free day coupon mysteriously disappeared and they of course were no help. They said they would be back in touch by the afternoon, but it took a scathing review through their online survey website to finally hear back. The manager called me back, said to call her to deal with anything at the branch, and she would take care of me. She sent me a gift certificate to cover the cost of the rental, but I was still screwed out of my free day, so was technically still down $35 or so. On my next reservation, the manager has no clue who I am, and the gift certificate of course does not work. She says to trust her as I will not be charged That is what she said last time and I was charged, so I am guessing that I will be calling in again upon checking my statement this week. As a long time renter at Hertz, it pains me to say this will be my last rental through them.

I gave them the info on my date of repair and called them the morning I dropped my car off. I was asked where I was and told someone was on the way. The call ended quickly, and I was nervous. They didn't ask me my name so I was concerned the person wouldn't show. A nice guy arrived 15 minutes later and drove me back to the rental agency. *Phew!* I wasn't really given an option on what car I got, but they gave me a 2014 Corolla. I was fine with this, as I drive a Corolla regularly. As I was pulling away, I noticed a tire pressure light was on. I wasn't about to get blamed for something I didn't do so I turned right around and brought it back. As soon as I pulled back in, the guy who set me up with the car ran out to see what was wrong. He asked to get in the car and look at it and promptly zipped around the corner into their back storage area. I was just slightly worried because my purse was still in the car, but what would they really do?? I would've appreciated a "hey, I'm going to fix this and I'll be right back". I stood outside awkwardly for like 10 minutes and he brought the car back. It was a nice car, no issues, and when my car was ready for pick up, I was able to leave the car at the dealership and have the dealership contact Hertz for pickup. I was glad to be taken out of the middle of this. All in all, a good experience. I would be fine using them again if I needed!

I booked a reservation online with Avis using my company code but didn't have my work badge. The…read moreagent (a woman I don't get her name) then asked me for my medical card which I didn't have as well. Needless to say the price doubled and I refused to pay that. I moved further down the counter to Payless. I asked the initial associate about a reservation and he was rude. I stepped back and made an online reservation and when I stepped to the counter I was warmly greeted by Keith who was taking care of the reservation when the initial agent from Avis left her area which had a line of people to come and tell Keith she or they don't work for the company. Keith said they have a reservation. I said why are you intruding at this point? No code is even being used. I was offended at her intrusive behavior. Thankfully Keith took care of me, making the process seamless. Kudos to Keith the initial agent and first Payless agent both need training on hospitality. customer service is key. Good day

Between the idiot at the location who called me and the "supervisor" at their call center the best unapologetic answers they had for me were to change my dates, go pick a car up at ohare airport, or start calling other rental companies. Absolute garbage.

Out of all the car rental services I have used, I like Getaround the best for short trips (less…read morethan 1 day). I've used Turo, traditional car rental companies (Hertz, Enterprise, etc.), and Zipcar. I think Truo and traditional rental companies are built more for longer term rentals and Zipcar is the most comparable. The hourly rates for Getaround are fairly reasonable, much better than Zipcar, plus Getaround doesn't charge a monthly fee. However, there is a reason why Zipcar is so expensive: the cars are owned and maintained by the company instead of ordinary people. With Getaround, you're renting out other people's cars and so the company doesn't have full control over the vehicle. It is possible that you may book a car that looks pretty good in the listing but when you get it, it's kind of dirty or not what you expected because the owner doesn't clean/maintain it. That is not necessarily Getaround's fault. For me, I've accepted that this may happen (and it has before), but for the money I save by not using Zipcar, it's fine by me. I have used Getaround so much that I know which cars in my area are clean and well-maintained and I tend to stick to those. If you're not willing to take the risk that a car might not be in perfect condition, then I'd say you should be willing to pay a premium for that. I've had maybe 2 interactions with customer service and both have been very good. I once got automatically charged a lot for gas because the car is parked on a slope and that affected the fuel level recorded after I dropped the car back. I only drove 5 miles in a 22mpg car, but the fuel level recordings made it seem like I used nearly 10% of the gas. I got my money back after explaining to CS via email. Another time I dropped off the car and then when I got to my apartment 2 blocks away I realized I left something in the car. I was able to call a customer service rep via the app and they waited on the phone as I walked back to the car and helped me unlock the car to get the item and lock it back up. Based on all of my Getaround experiences so far I'd definitely recommend it if you're a fairly flexible person with realistic expectations.

Crap cars and absolutely NO way to retrieve or contact the owner after you lock the car if you left…read morean item. They should at least provide you 1hr in case you did leave an item. INSTEAD their customer service (which is really non-existent) tells you--you need to rent the same car again for an hour--in the hopes your item may still be there..., SERIOUSLY. What BS. NEVER AGAIN.
