This park has a little of everything for everyone: hiking, mountain biking, fishing, picnicking,…read moretrail running. My limited experience was running the trails, or attempting to...it was tough, lots of downhill/uphill, but the switching and beautiful scenery made for good mental distractions. Many trails to chose from, but you can also pick a loop to follow which combines trails and were well marked, options include: Green 2 Mile Loop, Blue 5 Mile, and Red 12 Mile. I think a longer 15+ mile loop is marked as well, but not indicated on the map. Trail Map: http://www.svmba.org/Resources/Documents/Trails1.pdf The Blue Loop trailheads were easily found from the main parking lot, behind the restroom or up the paved trail, past the large picnic area on the left. My GPS had the Blue Loop at 4.6 miles. Very hilly!! Thankfully, mostly shaded, dirt, roots, but not very rocky. Trail shoes nice to have, not necessary. Apparently, the Southern Virginia Mountain Bike Association maintains the trails, does an awesome job too. Interspersed, you'll come across their handiwork, see photo of "Nessie" :) Facilities included: restrooms, large parking lot, bike wash, large covered picnic area, picnic tables in shade along the river, paved path in addition to the unpaved trails. Bikes, horses and pets on leashes were permitted. Mountain biking info/reviews: http://www.singletracks.com/bike-trails/anglers-ridge. Great trails, best I experienced in the area. Enjoy.

Walking around the Monument Terrace…read morehttps://www.yelp.com/biz/monument-terrace-lynchburg?hrid=9B9B_yeoJiezrcCxq_uOfw area, we found this lovely rose garden that is a level spot of land not far away. A walking path goes past a number of rose bushes and there are a few benches. There is also a great view of the James River valley from here. The caption reads, "Mr. Elder's Rose Garden. Lawrence Lloyd Elder (1896-1964) was a valued employee of the City of Lynchburg for over 34 years. His special domain was gardening and his responsibility the greenhouses in Miller Park where the city's flowers were raised for use in the parks. Later he was assigned the care of nearby municipal properties, including Monument Terrace, the Court House, the Post office and the roses in the Confederate Cemetery. In the adjoining remote area he also tended his personal garden of roses, which brought much pleasure to the many city employees in the area. In 1986, twenty-two years after Mir. Elder's death, the Blue Ridge Rose Society, in cooperation with the City of Lynchburg, undertook the revitalization of the garden as a Bicentennial Project. The Garden now serves as a depository of old Lynchburg Roses, all of which are known to have been grown and loved by the people of Lynchburg during its 200 year history." Playground areas and clean restrooms and showers. You can also just visit for the day for $5. Per carload. Camp sites cost $20 per day w/o hookups or $26 with. A multitude of activities including swimming in lake, fishing, boating, hiking etc. Most of the campsites I saw overlook the lake and family friendly. No alcohol permitted and they do patrol on occasion. We were visiting campers so the cost for us was $4. The lake is huge and looked clean and was nice to cool off. Most campsites have some shade, but not all. Dog friendly as long as leashed and designated areas for them to swim as well.

Private beach front. Quite location. This time of the year not buggy. Unfortunately, the leaves haven't turned yet. There's local store about a mile or two from the site where you can purchase firewood, gas and whatever else you may have forgotten to pack. Across the street is a new Mexican place before that it was a pizza place - hopefully they stay open till our next visit. We tend to meal prep when we camp. Overall, an amazing camping experience and it is the closest you can get to water with a full electrical (50 amp) and water hookup. Till next time!!

The main star of the park is the natural bridge itself. It's probably a shorter walk to the natural bridge than it is around the gift shop. I did the Cedar Creek Trail which is only 1 mile long and relatively flat from the natural bridge to the end at the waterfall. The trail is paved a lot of the way and well maintained the rest. Along the way there is a small cave that you can explore, a creak to just sit and relax, and lots of historical markers along the way. I had no idea that Thoms Jefferson once owned this land and the natural bridge itself. There is an urban legend that George Washington carved his initials in the bridge (along with a gazillion others). This hike is quite relaxing and easy to do. We saw a deer along the trail that was less than 10 feet from me and could care less that I was there. There are several other hikes that time didn't permit me to take. These trails will take you to other waterfalls, caverns and even a 2 mile frisbee golf trail. The natural bridge is a must see as it is absolutely gorgeous but next time, I will make time for the rest.

If you've actually bought something from REI, the receipt concern as a free admission to the park. You'll have to check the fine print. I don't know if there's a minimum spin, but I know that last I went to REI one of the front desk workers told me that the receipt would serve as my admission. And indeed covered it so I paid $0 more entrance to the park To get to the start, you have to go down some stairs, but I did over here a couple of groups at depending on if you need, they can drive you to the start. Natural Bridge had a couple of chairs so I'm assuming that a tour or they are just spots for people to rest. If you continue walking down the trail, you'll also find some other school spots like the saltwater cave, the ghost river, and Lace Falls. When I went a couple days ago, there has been a drought which has caused lace falls to be a bit smaller than normal. The ghost River was a surprisingly cool attraction. As soon as you start walking close to the hole, you can feel the cool breeze and hear the gush of the water. Where the river starts and where the river hint, we have no idea but it's a cool thing to check out.
