There is something seriously wrong with the bookstore staff.
I was visiting with my four year old daughter to find some children's books. There were three staff just checking if visitors were not mistreating their merchandise, not helpful at all. When my daughter showed me books that she wanted to buy and read, which were adult books as these are on her level, we were told that she wasn't allowed to touch these books. Eventually one of the ladies came to tell me "I have taught my daughter to only look and not touch". Did I walk into a child psychology clinic or a bookshop?
To top this experience off, while paying the lady behind the cash register started yelling at me when I wanted to pay with my pin card. Appearantly they had earlier that day issues with the pin system and therefore she found it necessary to yell "I don't want to hear anything from you regarding pin!".
These shop attendance clearly need some social training. There are better alternatives for buying English books in Amsterdam. read more
