I happened to hit it at one of those times. What would normally be a 1 minute crossing turned out to be a 45 minute detour! The Sewickley bridge connects the road to the Sewickley business district on one side and Coraopolis on the other. As others have said it can be hit or miss with this bridge because of the traffic lights at each end and the turning lanes onto it. It crosses the Ohio River and makes it a bit easier to get to Moon Twp and to the Sewickley business district from there. Other than that please be aware of the fact that this is the Penn dot chosen detour for the I 79 bridge.

I have visited the borough many times, particularly to eat at its many high-quality restaurants along/near Lincoln Avenue. (My favorite restaurants are WunderBar and Revival on Lincoln. Go there!) The downtown area has old buildings, but they are being fixed up and maintained. Furthermore, I am able to find paid parking for my vehicle along the streets or in lots, and the area has walkable sidewalks and feels safe. I do not live here, but the prices for housing seem to be reasonable for people to afford, and the commute to downtown Pittsburgh would not be far. Amenities include a public library, parks, and swimming pool. The police and fire departments seem to do very good work.

It opened in June 1959 and remains too narrow for the amount of traffic trying to cross it. Today, I was in a Pittsburgh city bus heading out of town and it was nearly hilarious watching our bus driver merging from the various on-ramps to get across the Monongahela River. He was only successful because people are scared of buses. Otherwise, I'd probably still be there! With a clearance over the river of 471 feet and a total length of 1207 feet, the bridge is impressively awesome considering that it is over sixty years old. It was an achievement for the time as the first computer-designed bridge in the world. The bridge is painted a bright yellow and there is no toll to cross it in either direction. I'm a fan. It is easy to get on and off and the traffic management seems to work well as I've never been stuck or stopped on this bridge in traffic. It is also a beautiful bridge to walk or bike over. Plenty of room for pedestrians and you can't beat the view! I've taken a double stroller over it, walked it, run it and biked it and it was a pleasant experience every time. Prior to the construction of apartments and condos next to Station Square, this bridge had a lot of traffic from downtown commuters who would park across the river and walk downtown. Now I think parking is more expensive on the Station Square side, so much of the traffic is from those using the trail or just looking for views rather than cheap parking. A great bridge to drive over, walk over or just take pictures of from afar.
