Today, I took a parent to the COVID clinic…read more It was the MOST ORGANIZED STREAMLINED EXPERIENCE. Social media said Chick Fil A should be in charge of vaccine distribution if we want to get people vaccinated quickly. Ample parking. Walked in to construction horses which created a registration line with a couple chairs along the path. No confusion on where to go. At the front of the line an "air traffic controller" directed people to open registration staff. Under 2 minutes, we were directed to the vaccine line. At the front of the vaccine line, another "air traffic controller" directed you to an open vaccinator. Any anaphylaxis to medications? Which arm for vaccine? Stand on X on floor. Receive vaccine. Directed to seating - which was paired up with social distancing between pairings. Once our sitting time was over, stopped at discharge to check out. Getting out of car to getting back in car: 22 minutes Great job by Allegheny Fire Academy & Emergency Services personnel, & the lone EMT pulling up the vaccines! We weren't permitted to take pictures - think Ford Assembly Line.

This review is limited in scope to the new Co Vid vaccine center set up here by Allegheny County…read moredepartment of health. Allegheny County has opened the fire department social hall as a vaccination center for people 65 and older only. Notifications for clinic signup can be sent via e-mail once you sign up with the county. My advice - act fast online because slots fill up within minutes. If you are fortunate to secure an appointment then you will be sent a confirmation email with your time selected on it as well as the date selected. On your scheduled day and time arrive within about a 15 minute time frame to allow yourself time to get inside. Masks are required the whole time you are there and hand sanitizer is available as you enter. Note, although this is a pay lot, parking is free if you are here for the clinic. They only ask if you or the member is over 65, have a scheduled appointment, then you can proceed inside. Once inside you go to the register desk and present your photo id. They don't want to see your health insurance or Medicare card. They will answer any questions you have and then direct you where to stand for the team to provide your injection. They have about 5 stations set up with two people at each station. The team will direct you which station to go to and then you indicate your arm of choice for the vaccine. Allegheny County is offering the Moderna vaccine here. When my turn came I was given an immunization card and a "time" card the latter of which will be surrendered when you leave. I was told that I would receive an email to let me know when to schedule my 2nd dose and if not received by the end of the third week then call the 211 scheduling number and someone would help me. After receiving the shot I went to a large socially distant sitting area with two digital clocks on the wall. My time card had the time of immunization on it and 15 minutes later time which would let me know when I can leave. No photography is allowed anywhere in the building. You are welcome to use electronic devices to pass away the time. Once your exit time arrives take the card up to the people at the desk who will ask you how you are feeling, they take the card, and you can leave. Your immunization card is filled out with the date, time, and type of vaccine received. You must fill out your name and birthdate for your records. I'm glad pretty much everything went smoothly for me and I'm hoping this center as well as the Monroeville location expand so more people can register who really want to get the vaccine. The parking lot is part of a T station park and ride and there is plenty of parking available.

PITTSBURGH FISH FRY LEGENDS!!!…read more Okay, here's the scoop! This quaint fire department may be putting out the biggest fire of all when it comes to Lenten Fish Fry! I've been faithfully driving 25 minutes here for the past 8 years! Yes... you have to call in early in the morning to preorder. Otherwise, you may have to wait over an hour to get your order. Yes... I will always order to pickup lunch because the dinner rush is too crazy. But YESSS... I will make it a priority to get here every Friday because it is the best beer battered fish and haluski combo in the Burgh!! They are open 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM, but the phone lines open at 10:00 AM. When I pickup my order around 12:30 PM, I can see them crossing out available order times (Today, only 3:30 was left available). The prices are super reasonable - photo attached. The food is out of this world. Yuengling Battered Cod that is so crisp and crunch that you'll dream of it. Haluski that is so buttery and flavorful that you wonder how in the heck does a fire department make this in bulk. Coleslaw that is so simple yet so creamy that it perfectly balances the oil overload from the other items. This place is legit sooooo good that they've started to open the first Friday of October and November... and it literally sells out instantly too!!! If they didn't also fight fires, I'd think this should just be turned into a restaurant. They are on every list always for Best Fish Fry. They have merch. Fish Fry Tshirts and Fire Helmets for kids. You can eat in the fire truck garage or take it to go. The systems that they have are so perfect... this place is customer service at its finest.

Did you know you could leave a Yelp review for a fish fry? Well, I didn't until today, but I'm so…read moreglad you can because the SVFD fish fry deserves one. The biggest advice I can offer: CALL AHEAD TO ORDER. THEY WILL SELL OUT! There is a reason they sell out so early: the food is phenomenal, and so are the people. The fish is fresh, crispy, and full of flavor. The sides are the epitome of comfort food. We ordered the pierogi, the mac and cheese, and the French fries, and they were all perfect pairings with the fish. We also ordered a beer battered grilled cheese because we just had to know what it tasted like, and it did not disappoint. If you like crispy, cheesy, and carby, this sandwich is for you. It's easy to see why the SVFD fish fry ranks so highly each year. Stop by if you're able!
