Well, some stayers have frequented this place the last 20years. A relationship that has lasted longer than their marriage, probably. You go here if you like to show that you like rock and if you don't care about showing nothing at all. The latter are not the hipsters ;) It used to be packed, but the hip factor has cooled off. Good! The interior is not. Which is part of the whole atmosphere. And the pictures- epic shots of old rock heroes, make many of us nostalgic and remembering when we were in our 20s. Oh well. The only minus is the selection of beer. Hansa on tap. Come on! A tourist or a new inhabitant? You just gotta have a beer here. Period.

So if your after craft beer this is definitely one of the places up go in Oslo. If your allergic to…read morefish then it probably ain't! Let me explain... As well as doing a great array of craft beer this place is also a sort of restaurant that seems to do a lot of fish. The decor inside was like it was designed a bit like the inside of a ship which probably explains the fish connection. When we walked in the smell of Fish and chips was great (in my non allergic opinion) it it was though, bloody strong. Anyways we were just there for the craft beer and we were not disappointed. There was loads of Taps (10 plus) and load of bottles to. We had some great beers including an amazingly named "winter in Bangalore" IPA. The array of beers was top notch, the price as per the norm in Oslo was bonkers, but in general we had a great afternoon. The barmaid even let me charge my phone behind the bar, sadly though she would not change the awful music which loses it the 1 star. On on craft beer hunt? Check this place out. The food also smelled and looked good, but I did not try it so can't comment more than that.

It's dim and lit here and there with candles, and very intimate. The bartender was so friendly! He inquired where we were from and pointed out some other American regulars which was cool. Now the beer! What I like is in addition to their own brews they have guest beers on tap too, this is especially neat for us as we are interested in tasting as many local Norwegian and European beers while we are here as possible. All the Shouskjelleren beers we tried were really good, and well balanced. Don't get too excited when you see the pint glasses, they are heavy and thick, you're still getting only a 12oz pour, but it's nice to have a "bigger" glass anyway ;). We will be back often, it's a fun cozy vibe, super friendly, and great beer. Not sure what more you could ask for in a brewery!

For the main, you can choose between the grilled pork knuckle or pork neck. Of course we went with the former. The skin was satisfyingly crunchy and the meat was mostly tender. It is also accompanied by mashed potatoes and much needed vegetables. Lastly, dessert was a white chocolate mousse with espresso and bacon. I could've went without the bacon, but I guess they needed to add pig to it as the restaurant is called "The Happy Pig." We ourselves left happy and stuffed.

Great with a local pub with atmosphere and none of that inner city madness on a Saturday night
