It was a teacher that brought it to the principals attention, and the principal who told us, and then stopped it. Schools are only as effective as their administration. This schools administrators really care about the kids. Ultimately, kids are kids. Christian kids are no different. Over the years we have witnessed many kind, considerate, selfless acts. As a smaller school, we don't seem to have the same scale of issues that the public schools have. The teaching staff is exemplary. There isn't one that my kids couldn't turn to for help. They're invested. I know of a certain male high school teacher, that went snowshoeing with a female student and her family and his, because that's just who he is. The countless hours they volunteer to coach sports teams, lead the kids in a catering event for 200 people or just pray with your child who needs it. This school has created an environment that's pretty special. It's hard when you leave it because you realize truly what it really is. But I used to work at the after-school care here, and saw what the kids are like after a hard day of Cogito. Cogito is a special academic program that uses explicit phonetics and repetition strategy to get the material into the kids' heads. They have regular homework everyday, and often the kids would do their homework in the daycare before their parents picked them up. I don't know about you, but I was never that diligent when I was seven years old. While I'll admit the program works, because these are some of the smartest kids I've ever seen, it does take a toll on them. The poor children are probably mentally exhausted, and want nothing more than to unleash all their pent-up energy from the whole day. Unfortunately right after school hours, when they're with the daycare staff! I think it's important to remember that all kids learn differently, so while Cogito may work wonders for some, it may not be the greatest for other kids, especially the ones who need to learn through hands-on activity. On that note, I will add that it's great for getting kids to read early. There's nothing like a five-year-old teaching you the difference between the "a" and "ai" phonemes!

They do a different theme each month with a themed craft most days. They also have story time, free play time, carpet time each day and field trips at least once a month. They go outside as often as they can with our silly Alberta weather. I feel like this preschool has prepared him so well for French Immersion kindergarten and made him such a little independent boy.
