Long reign Endymion!
Cesar R.

One of the best experiences I've ever had in New Orleans especially during carnival season. Now these guys are not throwing the word Extravaganza around lightly! First it takes place in the Superdome which is mandatory criteria to use the word. Second you get to bring your own food and booze but if you're VIP and sitting in front of the stage they have you cover on that at no cost. Third you get to see the floats and some of the countries best marching bands while wearing a tux or gala dress and getting wasted with your friends! The entertainment is live and usually a well known artist in 2018 it was Rob Stewart and Jason Derulo. The experience of seen the vibrant and majestic floats as they parade through the Superdome is a really unique experience so is getting hit in the face with an unexpected throw so keep a watchful eye as you scream "throw me something mister" because they will from all directions at once LOL. All and all a great experience that highlights the best of carnival season and the uniqueness of living in New Orleans!

The Endymion Extravaganza is, by far, the best place to catch the parade if you are lucky enough to have a front row seat. If not, your experience will vary. Tickets Tickets for the Extravaganza are very expensive and can only be purchased through a krewe member. You would think this would add a level of exclusivity and class to the event, but you would be wrong. My guess is many people are guests of others and don't pay a dime so they behave accordingly. Layout There was a VIP area, VIP bunkers and regular tables for this event. On the floor the main area with tables was in the center of the dome barricaded off from the parade route. The tables closest to the barricades were the best, but all of these tables had one major issue. The only bathrooms for the event were on the outside of this area meaning a long trek across the parade route to pee. When the parade was going on you could only cross during a gap in the floats and that didn't happen frequently enough. If you can afford it, the bunker areas are the way to go. They have free food, bathrooms and are a little more exclusive than the main table area. The bathroom alone is worth the extra $80 or so a ticket cost. Parade This is the best reason to come to the ball. Sure they have "world class" music acts, but the parade is hard to beat. The parade began with a steady stream of police and Shriner motorcycles which was cool, but deafening. Next up was the marching bands which each paused near the VIP tables to perform. It amazed me how much energy these groups had after having already marched several miles. After those two groups came the parade. If you were able to get close to the front, you could catch more beads, trinkets and other throws than you ever imagined. The riders truly save all of their good stuff for the Extravaganza and it showed. As each float pulled into the dome, all you could see was a constant stream of stuff being thrown from the sides. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced. The night went downhill from there. Music The opening bands weren't bad, but they played a lot of the same songs. Most of their set was top 40 which they did a great job of, but most people wanted to see the main act. This year's big star was Carrie Underwood. I had no idea how popular she was until she started playing and the crowds surged towards the stage. I saw grown people crying over some of the songs, but she didn't do anything for me. I guess she is supposed to be a country star, but I would have taken George Strait over her any day. People The crowd an the gamut from local celebrities, the ultra wealthy all the way to the lowest common denominator. I saw people fighting over beads, drunks vomiting all over the floor and run of the mill bad behavior. At some point the event turned from a fun parade/concert atmosphere into a scene from the walking dead. By the end of the concerts the floor in the dome looked like Bourbon Street at 3 a.m. It was so disgusting that when I left I had to pull up my pant legs to avoid any getting on my clothes. As of this writing, I will most likely not be back next year, but time has a way of making you forget the bad. This event really has potential so if you can get in a bunker, or at least get a table by the barricades, it may be worth the price.

Just do it! There's nothing like watching a parade and catching throws in your formal gear while listening to live music. If you are afforded the opportunity, go. This is a unique experience and one you will never forget. As a kid, I remember marching through the Superdome at the end of Endymion parade. We were cheered on and watched in grand form. Back then, I took mental note and said one day I would experience it from the other lens. This year's featured entertainment was Pitbull and Steven Tyler (featuring Aerosmith). And while both were great, I love the band from Atlanta who also play a few sets. Bring your dancing shoes and energy because the party does not stop until 4am.

What an experience! Seriously. Just some more general info that hasn't been covered: Tickets/seating: purchase through someone you know on the krewe. It's nice because you can sit together on a table. Seating is super organized. I would recommend getting there before the parade starts since you will have a hard time getting to where you need to go/will have to walk the perimeter of the Superdome if you wait. There's a VIP area that has food and toilets near the front stage. I'm sure those tickets are mondo expensive! What to bring: - Your own bag to bring home goodies if you'd like a second (they give you one as you walk in). We easily filled up 2x bags within 3 floats! The catches will be perfect for upcoming arts and crafts projects! - General seating: EtOH and snacks. They provide ice, soda, and popcorn. We brought stuff that we could finish and leave. Other people were very smart and brought coolers on wheels (also good for hauling your booty back home!). - For the ladies: flat shoes. Mostly to avoid rolling your ankles in heels on the beads that litter the floor. Hint: the smartest person I saw there was wearing a decorated hard hat! We saw another girl with a bleeding forehead from chucked beads. Keep your eyes on the floats so you don't get pelted. Overall, it was crazy, fun, and amazing. There are tons of different places you can enjoy the parade from. So you can catch throws or just sit back and relax. Definitely a highlight of our Mardi Gras celebrations this year. Hope we can go again!

This is an easy 5-star review. Lazy me would just cherry pick from the other 5-star reviews but…read more.. Preservation Hall is a must when visiting New Orleans. Picture exceptional musicians playing traditional jazz in your living room or backyard. There are no frills, light shows, just benches and standing room areas which allow you to be transported back in time when jazz was king. From their website: "Operating as a family business, Preservation Hall supported the unique culture of traditional jazz in New Orleans, which developed in the local melting pot of African, Caribbean, and European musical traditions at the turn of the 20th Century. Preservation Hall was a rare space in the South where racially integrated bands and audiences shared music together during the Jim Crow era." I would strongly suggest that you purchase your tickets well in advance as these shows sell out. In the past the Hall was BYOB and there were no rest rooms. They have upped their game and there is a full bar and bathrooms! Each show is only 45 minutes in length for those 45 minutes you are in for a truly magnificent experience.

This is a historic spot. It's small inside- not fancy- it's real. No big lights, no big speakers,…read moreno mixers or autotune. Think- sitting in the living room. Old church style benches. Get your tickets early. The musicians were great- music was great. I loved it.

Eleven years since my last review for Tip's? Update demanded…read more I've seen many a great show here since then so that hasn't changed. The sound and sightlines remain superb (I'm partial to watching from above, right where the NKOTB video for The Right Stuff was filmed and I was today years old when I found out this video was shot here, thanks Jen L) and the drinks remain reasonably priced. They have bubbly by the glass (I mean plastic cup), and that's the way I roll these days. And clean bathrooms... at a big music venue?! OK but I was not familiar with these cover-less shows... We had friends in from out of town on Friday and everyone wanted to go to Tips. We were pleasantly surprised by no cover on a Friday night to see the Brass-A-Holics. What a phenomenal show this was, too. There you go. Always a good time at Tip's and if you disagree, well you have to go back. Update delivered!

Well if there is a world famous musical institution in New Orleans, this is the place. Really great…read moretalent on display here and the place just oozes history, if the wall could talk as they say. Two big bars one upstairs and one down. Downstairs is the dance floor, and often folks are rocking it out, upstairs a mezzanine with a railing you can lean on to see the shows and also upstairs are some benches to sit when you feel you need to get off your feet. The whole place is a pretty intimate venue for hearing some of NOLA best. If you have tickets be sure to get there early for a good spot!

Currently home to the infamous Soul Rebels Band on Thursdays when they're not on the road. Back bar ( where the small stage is) opens up late when there is a gig. Tipped him literally 100% because he deserved it and her 0% because she deserved it. Went back this morning to talk to the young lady working and leave the owner my number and would love to discuss. My mom lives across the street so it's not like I'm just some A hole passing through and I was also a bartender for 5 years myself before becoming a nurse and then a nurse practitioner. I would never treat a patient nor a patron how I was treated by Lynn this week. Great bar, shameful service by Lynn. All the other bartenders I've encountered were amazing but she's a cancer on this place in my limited experience with her on two separate days. Dave, you rock. Will update review once I hear back from owner who I met the other night but didn't discuss because I hadn't had the second experience with Lynn yet. I HATE leaving negative reviews as I'm sure you can tell by my review history but this woman has definitely gotten me out of my character and I apologize.
