So I was ready to be disappointed when I walked into the retail store that took its place. But, that store is called Moxie, it kicks ass, and the people who own it and work there are wonderful. They have tons of great housewares. I walked in with a designer friend and she was impressed. Cool plates, tea kettles, cookware - all sorts of stuff. And then I went back before this last Christmas... I found all sorts of gifts for the modern baby. Great clothes from Wry Baby, like t-shirt that had sayings like "I Eat Dirt" and "Not a Girl". And the best sellers in Asbury Park, "I Love My Moms" and "I Love My Dads". (That's right, San Francisco, you don't have a monopoly on progressiveness - in fact you could learn a thing or two from Asbury Park). And there are great toys from Zolo, like the Kooshies Stacrobats. And the Huggy Buggy line of soft toys. Parents of the recipients of these toys are likely to thank you for getting toys that are cool and attractive to children without making obnoxious noises or flashing lights. This place is a great addition to the fantastic shopping on Cookman Ave. And they have an online store so you can order from anywhere. Support your local merchants - especially when they're as cool as these people.
