First time coming and checking out this library. I felt that it was a good size it was clean and the lady that helped me get a library card was friendly and helpful. It had a good book selection. The bathroom was very clean and spacious. The library has a nice outdoor deck area with great views.

Nice selection of books. The main highlight is the views of the Pacific Ocean with tables to sit and read enjoying the views. I also enjoyed a community room with colorful ocean and beach themed paintings by a local artist.

Study room.

Mornings are beautifully quiet. Gotta a lot of work done! They open at 10am most days. There's lot of adventures at your local library, go and discover where it can take you!

Look at that view!

This is a library? So, apparently someone took a prime piece of real estate on top of a hill overlooking downtown Encinitas with the clear, blue ocean framing it and built a public building on top of it. That building is large, single story, with multiple decks overlooking the beauty around it. Stunning, is the best way to put it; the view is really quite incredible. Coming out here to enjoy a book and watch the sunset would be a great way to spend any afternoon / evening. The Children's Section is extensive, books, tapes, videos, and DvD's of all kinds. Couches and benches, a table for coloring, a side room for groups, and a bathroom for kids fill out the area. We originally came for the "Rockin' Toddler Time," but we found it too loud and crowded. Skipping the second half of it on my son's suggestion, we sat in the lounge and read about ten books as he giggled and laughed through it all, excited knowing we would come back soon. Other sections are not as populated, some of the shelves a bit barren, but there is still a good collection of books and magazines. Next time we go, I'm curious how easily they can find or get something that they don't currently have in stock. And, next time we donate books, we're definitely coming here to drop them off. A computer lab with multiple desktops is here as well, though I have no idea how secure the network is; running a pen test on government equipment is not something I'd like to go to jail for. Outside there's a coffee stand to grab your favorite blend to enjoy the morning breeze and spring birds. They have free books to take and other books to buy, a small shop on the side with selections for kids and adults; something for everybody. And then, back to that view. Seriously, it's the best thing about a place that's already beautiful and serene. The Encinitas Library may not have sheer volume of books and music as they do in Carlsbad, but you couldn't have asked for a nicer place to enjoy them.

Great view of the ocean. It's a little crowded. Friendly staff, and a excellent kids area.

Beautiful, relaxing, quiet, new, parking. The only downside is lack of book options.

They have a very nice theater with movies every week and they have live music events. They do a great job offering programs for the community. There is also a nice patio area to sit and read. The Library makes it very easy to get a library card. You just have to answer some questions, and fill out a few lines on a form and then you have your card. The library has books, movies, magazines, to borrow and there are computers to use and other ways to enjoy media. There is also a puzzle exchange, bring in your old puzzles and take some that are there. There were some conference rooms, looks like they are for meetings or trainings. There was some sort of training room upstairs, looks like they teach people on various topics. The computers to look up books make it very easy to see if they are in stock, if they are reserved, etc. Take down the info where they are located and do a little scavenger hunt to find your item. If you get what you need, you head down to self checkout, scan your library card, put in a pin #, insert the book and the scanner does the rest. You get the book for 3 weeks and can renew that 2 more times if no one has reserved it. There is also a cafe there and I believe a place to watch movies or performances that they have there from time to time. And you can drop off your ballot there too. Pictures attached.

So far I've seen two great performances, Sara Petite, and Peter Sprague One thing I appreciated was the fact that the shows are put on by the Friends of the Library. The MC for the event made sure to let people know that the music was made possible because of the members of the Friends of the Library. My dad instilled in me a since of fairness. He never cheated anyone and he never let anyone cheat him. For that reason I felt I owed it to them to join. As I had gotten so much joy from the music program and know there's more to come. As as added bonus you can arrive early and have a picnic at the Encinitas Community Park which is a Short drive from the Library.

Encinitas just plain rocks. What else is there to say?…read more Sure, we have some kooky zoning laws and we bring every little thing up to citywide vote, but hey - it's *our* kooky little town and we love it! From Leucadia down to Cardiff-by-the-Sea, through Old Encinitas and New Encinitas all the way to bucolic Olivenhain you won't find a cooler and, dare I say, hipper town in California. To get an idea of folks it attracts, just look at a list of some of our current Encinitas residents: skateboarders such as Bucky Lasek, Danny Way, Mike McGill - surfers like Rob Machado and others - the one and only 2-time gold medalist Shaun White - actor Richard Dreyfuss - classic rocker Joe Walsh - the list goes on and on... Former residents, you ask? Well, how about Charlie Chaplin, Eddie Vedder, Ravi Shankar, Dr. Jerry Buss, Tony Hawk, and "The Beaver" - that's right, Jerry Mathers from Leave It to Beaver used to call Encinitas his home. Now that's truly legit.

The staff member at the front desk immediately recognized my moms name (she frequently taught classes, checked out books and was an avid community member). The lady at the desk showed genuine compassion, gave me a hug, shared kind stories about her, and assured me that my mom's account would be updated and that any remaining or future book issues would be taken care of. I left feeling grateful during an incredibly difficult time. Fast forward six months later--my sister and I received a Past Due Notice for a book still under my deceased mother's account. I called the library to resolve it and spoke with Adrian. I explained that my mother had passed away and that this had already been handled in person. His response was simply, "That's unfortunate--we have an entirely new staff." No condolences. No empathy. After giving him my mom's information, he put me on hold and then transferred me to his manager, Ywen--without explaining anything to her. She answered the phone asking how she could help, forcing me to relive and explain my mother's death all over again. When I expressed how upsetting this was, I was told, "Unfortunately, you're going to have to." Again--no sympathy, no compassion. When I pointed out the complete lack of customer service and basic humanity, Ywen told me to call back when I could "gather myself" and then hung up on me. To make matters worse, I was told I would need my deceased mother's library card to resolve the issue. Losing a parent is devastating. Being forced to repeatedly explain it--and being treated with indifference and disrespect--was completely unacceptable. The contrast between the kindness shown in May and the behavior of the current staff is shocking. If you have a loved one who passes away, apparently, you'd better hang on to their library card--because compassion is no longer guaranteed here.

That said, it still feels like a gathering spot for many unhoused individuals. I understand public libraries are meant to be welcoming community spaces, and there's nothing inherently wrong with that, but it does make me a little hesitant to bring my kids here. Today was an exception because they completed the summer reading challenge and earned free fair tickets. The children's area is a huge positive. It's separated from the main library, feels safe, and the staff working there during our visit were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, because of its location, you'll still occasionally see people walking through from the main library. Parking is another challenge. No matter what time I've visited during the week, finding a spot has always been difficult. The front desk staff came across as less welcoming than I'd hoped, while the children's staff completely made up for it with their excellent customer service. I'm a strong supporter of public libraries and the resources they provide to the community. My rating reflects the value of those services rather than the behavior of other patrons or the customer service experience alone. Despite a few drawbacks, I'm grateful our community has access to a resource like this.
