Everything was clean and comfortable. I had heard about a school being turned into a hotel with a castle theme and wanted to see it myself. Very impressive! Some of the critics are perhaps comparing it to a big hotel chains. It reminds me of people going to other countries and complaining that they don't get the same service they are used to in the U.S. I think the idea was genius and admire the ambition and perseverance of making it happen and creating such a unique hotel. A cool nights rest on our journey through North Dakota. There's not a lot of staff, so no one was at the front desk to check us in. Instead, we had a phone number to call and have someone stop by the front desk to get us checked in. The room is nice. There's even a little "kitchen" area. I liked the knight accents, but felt like it needed a little more. My favorite part was the gymnasium, where you could throw some basketballs around. If you are looking for food, go down the street. They shouldn't even be serving food with the quality I received. I ordered the fish basket, and I'm not sure if it was the breading or the fish, but it tasted completely of mold and I couldn't eat it. My sister had the prime rib, which was completely raw on the inside, and a lot of it was fat. Her corn was hard and cold and just gross. I don't know why we had any hope for the dessert, but we ordered the raspberry cheesecake, and it was disgusting. First, it wasn't even cold, and second, it was hard. Do not eat here. And the service is so slow. I get it, it's a small town, but two hours for a meal is way too long. All in all, the room was nice, but save your money and eat at the other restaurant down the road. read more

Deep into the rolling hills, green pastures, birds singing, relaxing atmosphere, This hotel is pretty cool, though not what I expected, however, it's a quaint hotel for a little town. It has some unique features and I would explain them to you but then I'd spoil it for everyone if you haven't gone to the castle! Some nights are busy, some nights quiet. I enjoyed staying. Very clean. Awesome staff. Check in was very quick and smooth!! No complaints at all!! Some features: fire pit outside, fireplace inside, hot tubs, gaming, restaurant, bar, & so much more! For an easy check in & 'worry free' stay, Must make a reservation to stay, however going there alone on a Sunday isn't very exciting because everything is closed, and you just have some great alone time, either way, it was a pleasant time, but respect your neighbor because the walls are ultra thin. This is a fun unique destination place. It's a castle, all medieval. Dave and Guy are amazing. If you're looking for night life and entertainment keep driving. But if you're looking for a unique experience stop by. Quiet, private, and definitely you make you own entertainment. It's an old converted school and we played foosball in the gym. Wow, what a cool and unique concept! My boyfriend and I are on a road trip through North Dakota and just stayed here two nights after driving the Enchanted Highway and stopping at all the sculptures. The hotel is owned and operated by the creator of the sculptures himself. We chatted with him on multiple occasions throughout our stay and he made us feel right at home. We've driven across the country multiple times per year for years and have never encountered a place with as unique a vision as his - definitely stop through if you're even remotely in the area. It's not a luxury hotel, but for being in an old converted high school it's certainly spacious and comfortable. Now on to the various unique highlights - The castle theme is really cool and the food in the tavern and Excalibur steakhouse is quite good (great steaks and soup!). There's a gas fire pit outside near the entrance that they'll turn on if you ask. On our first night we met a couple guys who were traveling the country on their motorcycles and we shared drinks and great conversation by the fire. There's a whole gymnasium available for basketball, which we availed ourselves to. It's not every day you can just run free in an abandoned high school gym! They have two hot tubs in a room through the gym that are nice - I'd recommend bringing some music and turning off the lights for an eerie and relaxing experience. Gary sets up breakfast himself in the morning, and is around to chat and help with anything you might need. Definitely try to call before you arrive - they open at 5pm and have a small staff there working throughout the day so there's not always someone by the front office to talk to. We had to call a couple times but once we talked to someone we were assured they'd have space. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. Gary was working on two new sculptures right by the castle entrance throughout our stay - an enormous knight and a soon-to-be firebreathing dragon. This is a one-of-a-kind slice of Americana and a vision we felt good supporting. We wish Gary and the town of Regent all the best and will definitely return next time we're in North Dakota. read more

There is so more to this stay than a simple castle-themed hotel at the end of a highway with a few scrap metal structures. We met the owner and man behind the enchanted highway and he shared with us some of his story and vision. What an unbelievable life he has had. The stay was fantastic and everything we hoped for. Clean rooms, friendly staff and a big ole hot tub in the room. The food was great - they had a special buffet in the dining room which they had advertised on Facebook. Check this place out! As cheesy as this place could be, it has a certain allure that should be experienced. The rooms are comfortable and have odd luxuries like two televisions and a possible hot tub in the room. I was in a room with a hot tub. It made the room stink but added a special touch to the experience. There are too many attributes to mention with this hotel. I will now try to list a few for you... Hot tubs everywhere Medieval decorations everywhere including many suits of armor Basketball court Volleyball court Foosball table Air hockey table Medieval theme bar and separate restaurant Robes and slippers in the room Freaking drawbridge out front (!) The hotel used to be an elementary school and there are still hints of that here and there. It adds to the charm. Your kids or drunk friends will really enjoy themselves. I can't really see a reason to go back to ND but the Enchanted highway and this hotel will be remembered fondly. Bring bug spray though. ND has a ridiculous amount of bugs outside and they will eat you alive. read more

We love this place every time we have the awesome privilege of staying here. Out of six yeras we have stayed here four times traveling from California to Wisconsin. Such a treat! We discovered it viewing the Enchanted Highway on YouTube. Have had the awesome privilege of being served ice cream, breakfast, dinner, checking in and just hanging out with the man who did the schulptures along this route leading to the hotel itself. This place is amazing! Absolutely worth the side-trip from I-94. Regent is a cute little town and this hotel is at the end of main street. They've got lots of medieval-themed decorations including multiple suits of armor(!). The decorative highlight is the Tavern with amazing attention to detail and a great drink selection. Room was comfortable and nice. Lots of cute little touches. One of the most fun is the hotel gym. It's not a workout room per se - it's an actual [former] high school gym. My buddies and I had lots of fun shooting hoops in the morning. They do have hot tubs too for guests to use. Also the road down from I-94 features a series of absolutely unreal gigantic metal sculptures. This is called the "Enchanted Highway", google it. I am convinced this hotel and the Enchanted Highway that leads to it are by far most awesome things in North Dakota. read more

While traveling the Dakota's this summer, we were working our way back towards Wisconsin. We decided to check out the enchanted highway that I found on the ND state map. As we drove along the highway we started to notice big metal structures, that were located along farm territory every few miles. We noticed about 6 of them, great for kids, but us adults we enjoyed as well. Then at the end of this highway was the town of Regent and the "Enchanted Castle Hotel", where Gary greeted us. He told us about the history in how he converted a school to a hotel. He made 2 hotel rooms per classroom, and they were very roomy, 2 televisions, 2 queen size beds, an area to eat at a table with a mini fridge, and a spacious bathroom with 2 sinks. Perfect for hunters, travelers, and families. The best part was he kept the gym in tact, (but added a locker room, 2 hot tubs, and a workout room) this is wonderful for kids, when they need a place to run around. We did not get a chance to visit the bar or restaurant but from what it seems from looking at the menu it looks wonderful. Gary and Elaine, who was on staff at the hotel, greeted us and chatted about the area and culture as they have both been local for a long time. Great people, fun spot in a very small town. Anyhow, this place is great! Large rooms, fast internet, full cable, friendly people, and by staying here you help support the guy who builds the Enchanted Highway sculptures. This place is a joke. It doesn't even look like a castle. If you're going to run with that theme, then do it all the way. It still looks like the school it used to be. I have only been able to visit this place once, because they are hardly open. The gym is a joke, with an "exercise room" with like, 4 old machines. I've seen bigger exercise rooms in Super 8's, and Roadway Inns, LOL. They have a hot tub, which was haphazardly placed as an obvious afterthought. They have A Bar which is never open. Every Time I drive by, they're closed. I stopped trying, and now frequent The Only Other Bar in Regent, Which Is Always Open (Until Statuatory Closing Time, Anyway). Upon contacting this place, I Was Told Lounge Was Closed because hotel was empty (as in NO GUESTS). Well, that itself Speaks Volumes. Why is the hotel empty? That's an interesting question.......I have never EVER heard of an empty hotel. Every hotel always has SOME guests. I mean, this is North Dakota, where hotels are usually beyond sold out due to the oil boom. But the hotel is totally empty, as in ZERO (not even 1) guest? Wow, just wow....that's unheard of.
