Artis advertises and promises consistent activities and there were none for two months when they were unable to fill the "life enrichment position". Numerous meetings with the director of facility with no changes in care and constant promises so finally moved our mother out to a different facility. Poor leadership and total lack of respect and accountability from staff. So disrespectful to the residents and their families. Shameful.-

I was confident enough to leave my parents under Atrium's care because everyone treated my parents like a family. Daisy Newson the Director is very professional and understands how important family decision it is to entrust their parents to a facility without feeling guilty. I feel her genuine compassion towards my parents . My parents lifestyle changed for good after moving to Atrium Assisted Living. They are both happier with the care, food and activities. It is also convenient for my Dad to go to his physical therapy because it's just next door. The convenience you provided from the visiting doctors , 24/7 nurses and aides is unparalleled. The facility itself is like a five stars resort. the local staff was nice and the local administrator caring and a bit overworked. but there was…read morevery little structured activity to keep the seniors engaged and mentally active. further, there were issues with ensuring resident privacy and hygiene. seniors would walk in on each other while they were in the bathroom. there were episodes where residents would walk into one another's bedroom and pee on the floor or in the closet. some of these problems you could expect from a memory care facility. the contract is written mostly from the perspective of management, meaning it's all about their rights and not so much for the residents. best advice is to have a lawyer go over the contract before you sign and don't make a hasty decision. the front end community fee was pretty steep and you don't get much for that. the back-out clause is a requirement for 60 days notice which clocks from the beginning of a new billing cycle. so if you don't think the place is right for your senior, and you leave immediately, you could get hit with two months or more of fees. this is about double the cost of backing out at other places, so it's also very steep. further, management plays a shell game over any disputes, so the local administrator will say it's out of her hands, the regional administrator, Kathleen Goodwin, will also kick it upstairs, and the CFO, with whom the buck supposedly stops, simply will not take calls or return them. we regret our decision to use this facility. it cost us far more than it should have. my advice is shop around a bit more. there are better places, and if you have to keep your senior in an expensive interim hospital/nursing care situation meanwhile, remember that even the short term cost of that will be cheaper than signing up with this group. also, when Goodwin quotes you any prices, I recommend you either record the conversation or get it in writing.

They have a large parking lot that seems to fill up so although I lucked up and was able to get a good spot, I can see at times it may not be as easy to do so. The security guard at the entrance of the hospital was so pleasant yet thorough. I wish I would've gotten his name because he was just that good and deserves kudos (middle aged tall brown skinned man) . He spoke to everyone who entered, walked them through the process for entry, re-checked numerous bags and did all with a smile. The hiring event was towards the back of the main floor and was very organized. The Penn Med staff hosting the event were all very friendly and informative and I was able to make a few key connections I can work with and hopefully build a partnership with for the sake of employing Medical Assisting graduates .

Late night visits always found…read moreattendant sitting in corner on her phone while residents sat in chairs in front of static tv, one poor man slumped over to his side , clearly needed help but was ignored and another man crying for help. I found myself trying to help an entire room of helpless people while the attendant ignored all of us. It was a nightmare there. My own grandmother died under their so called care. We found workers always quickly spoon feeding her flat on her back, that is how people choke. It was just mortifying. There needs to be an accountability from the start and supervision and caring people who want to work in that industry, not insensitive, unskilled people who just need a pay check.

During these first two years when our needs were variable, Griswold was responsive and flexible, always finding someone for us when we needed them. We were never left without competent caregivers. The last three years Griswold sent us Robert, who lived in with us. Robert was exceptional - extremely competent, very flexible and responsible, and an interesting and honest person. When we moved out West we tried hard to get him to come with us. During those years from time to time I dealt with Jane and Joe, who own the agency, and with Giselle, their financial person. Giselle was extremely helpful in working out complex billing details with our long-term care insurance plan. Jane and Joe were always there when I needed them.
