They specialize in traditional Perigord cuisine and our greatest difficulty was choosing what to eat. Between us we had a Walnut salad with mustard dressing and a fabulous Foie Gras Terrine for entrees. For our main course we had Coq au Vin and Confit du Canard, both of which were wonderful! A simple dessert of fresh Strawberries and cream shared between the two of us was all we needed to finish a great meal. I had an apperatif of walnut wine and we shared a couple of pitchers of easy drinking rose housewine. The cost of the meal for two was just over 60 euros which we thought was very reasonable.

With our delicious meal I had a 1/2 bottle of local Cahors red wine at 15 euros and you'd have to get into a 3 start American restaurant for anything close. This is terrific. We dined on the 2nd floor terrace, a quiet refuge from the hustle bustle of busy and beautiful Sarlat Village.

The chef is famous for his foie gras and deserves all the accolades. The grilled foie gras is fantastic. Another selection that we loved is the Torchon made with Armagnac ... seriously, I wanted that serving to never end. Don't think just the usual pate ... the five foie gras plates at this restaurant top or match anything you could find in Paris. There is a pop up toaster in reach of every table so that one can toast the bread as one needs it. The bread is cut just the correct size for the little toasts. The menu is wonderful ... I suppose you can say that the people match the towns beauty! I had recently arrived from a VERY long day/night of travel (almost 20 hours!) and I was very tired, so the following day I woke up very late! Having said that, I know European friends do not eat lunch after 2 pm since that is the time that they take to eat their lunches, gather with friends, siesta and prep for the evening meal as well. I approached La Petite Borie because it was within steps of my Apartment and decided to pop in for lunch. It was about 1:40 pm (a bit late!!!), but the owner/manager greeted with a smile, reminded me that they will close shortly and suggested a great duck dish for me to enjoy! My waitress was super sweet, quick to bring bread and water! I also ordered a salad which was a meal in itself, but it had been a few years since I visited France so I had forgotten that they usually serve some greens with the meals. I did my best to eat it all and then my main course arrived. (I ate it quickly so I didn't get a chance to snap a photo--sorry!) but I assure you it was a delicious as EVERY SINGLE MEAL I ate on my visit was!! The duck was cooked perfectly, it was succulent, flavorful and perfect. I believe that I had Pommes de Terre Sarladaises and they were the perfect texture and made a great match with my duck and salad. I noticed that they were closing up and the owner/manager just smiled and said, No worries, I will have you stay with us and just let me know when you are done! So I had the whole (beautifully charming place) all to myself! I paid, and then had a nice conversation with him and my waitress and left with a smile and a full, satisfied belly! Thank you for your patience with me and thank you for the wonderful food! I will see you on my next visit! :-)

We had the goat cheese salad and although the cheese and toast were tasty, the "salad" was just a few scraps of lettuce. We both ordered the mushroom omelette and thought they were a bit small and dry. The walnut cake and creme anglaise was just ok. The service was pleasant. We aren't sure we will return to this place.
