Once there the ER Staff started life saving treatment on her and had an onsite surgical team (this was a Saturday morning) immediately start working on her. She was stabilized and placed on life support and flown by REACH helicopter to Saint Josephs Hospital in Stockton. She remained in critical condition for days in ICU and apparently coded twice. Had the Mark Twain Emergency Room staff and the Surgical team not- provided the medical care they did she would not have survived. That said, she recently had another medical emergency and again was taken to Mark Twain. Once again, they provided fantastic care. This time she remained in Mark Twain and the entire staff was unbelievable. My wife is still here today thanks to the entire staff at Mark Twain.

Then they gave me a forced contrast mri shot against my will. Then within a week I developed neuropathy in my feet and have had multiple disabilities since. Also my dad ended up there and a week later they called me up saying he died when he was totally savable. Don't go to this hospital. That forced contrast injection that I denied was a violation of my rights and I should pursue legal actions.

First, the wonderful staff who had been there for years fled when this new guy was hired. Why did they all leave? There has been a continual turnover in staff since he was hired. What is going on there that is causing this massive turnover in staff? I've had six surgical procedures on my spine over the years that has left me having to endure significant constant pain. My pain level is somewhat mitigated thru the use of medications. When I went to pick up my meds the pharmacist rolled his eyes and made an insulting derogatory comment regarding my medication usage. No one should have to be subjected to that kind of smug, judgmental, verbally abusive and insensitive treatment. It was evident that this pharmacist has some sort of disorder where he feels it's acceptable to insult the customers. I immediately switched to another pharmacy. Hopefully other customers have not had to endure this sort of insulting behavior from that guy. He is a stain on the entire MACT Healthcare Board. There is a chronic shortage of licensed pharmacists in this state, so I'm sure the MACT superiors will overlook a lot of abusive behavior before they do anything to rectify the matter.

I told him I had slipped and hurt my wrist. He set up X-ray to be done immediately for me. Went straight to hospital and had X-ray done. Dr. Patterson reviewed my X-ray and let me know I had fractured my wrist. He set up an appointment for me the next day with an Orthopedic Doctor. Went to appointment and they had surgery scheduled for me the next day. I am so thankful for the excellent treatment I received. Dr Patterson also called me to see how my recovery was going. She has seen him twice. Once in Nov 19 and once in Jan 20. She recently had a baby in March of 19. She went to see him for severe back pain in November, and he fat shamed her. Did not order any xrays. He told her that she needs to lose weight. He even mentioned that she should watch the Bikini Body Workout. He was so unprofessional. He told her that he and his wife run two successful businesses and both work out, and if they can do it, that she doesn't have any excuse. She went again to see him in January of 2020 to help her with her back pain. Again with the fat shaming and doing absolutely nothing to figure out what the cause of the pain is. This last weekend, Feb 15, 2020, Saturday, she awoke with severe back pain again and vomiting. This time the pain was on her lower left side and radiating around to her back. I watched her baby so she could drive herself to the ER at Sutter in Jackson. She couldn't even stand upright when she arrived. The doctor there immediately ordered a CT scan. They also performed an ultrasound. They discovered that she had a 8.2cm tumor on her left ovary. That is 3.2 inches. They told me that she had an Ovarian Torsion and had to perform emergency surgery that day! After the surgery, I was told that this cyst had burst and she had internal bleeding. She had ligaments twisted around her ovary. She had surgery and had to have her left ovary and her fallopian tube removed. If this Dr. Patterson would have gotten past his condescending attiutde and had some compassion and behaved like a DOCTOR, he would have ordered TESTS to find the source of her pain. Instead of treating her like she was shopping for pain meds! What happened to the Hippocratic Oath of FIRST DO NO HARM? This doctor should never be allowed to treat patients. How did he even get his medical license? When I called his office this morning, the receptionist didn't even want to hear my complaint and referred me to "Administration". Oh sweetheart, I am going to talk to your Administration and I am ALSO reporting him to the AMA.

Home birth is so natural but it is imperative that you have a trained guide to walk with you beginning to end. Look no further than Tel and Taproot Midwifery. I was adamant that I wanted a home birth but my husband was a bit skeptical due to lack of exposure, until we began our prenatal care with Tel. Tel made us both feel immediately at ease and fully trusting in them to provide the best care possible and when it came time to welcome our baby into the world, Tel was the best person to do that with. I always felt heard and my concerns were always taken seriously. I also learned so much about my baby's development along the way. My entire pregnancy journey was made better by Tel and the Taproot staff. If you are interested in a home birth then I can't recommend Taproot Midwifery enough.

In the same way that beer makes you feel the way you ought to without a beer, Tel and Amy make…read morepregnancy feel the way it ought to whether birthing at home or in the hospital. As a 32 year old, new mama-to-be, I was very anxious about the road on which my body and mind were headed. My menstrual cramps had been brutal growing up and i equated that with having a low threshold for pain. So when I learned I was pregnant, I convinced myself that the only way I was going to get my baby out was through a self-elected cesarean, or an epidural paired with a cocktail at the very least. It wasn't until the end of my first trimester when my perspective had shifted. Propelled by my dissatisfaction with Kaiser's service, I sought out alternatives to my prenatal care. I remembered my colleague's home birth story which inspired bodily integrity and local midwifery services. Skeptical that the home birth approach was right for me, I scheduled a consultation with Taproot anyway. The consultation with Tel and Amy did more than just answer the 50 questions I had prepared beforehand. It quieted the worries racing in my head regarding patient and care provider relational dynamics on top of common pregnancy-related anxieties. While we covered many topics in the hour-long consultation, I'd like to highlight what resonated with me the most: 1. When I asked about the types of labor pain management techniques they offer, they said that a home birth itself is pain management. I wasn't sold on this response initially. With each subsequent week, however, I realized all the little things about my home that make me feel the safest and most comfortable: my bed, the cleanliness, the power to decide who enters my personal space. Ultimately, this is what put my body, mind and soul at ease during labor. 2. They believe in the power of "no" and always asked for my consent before touching any part of my body or my baby's body. This experience was unexpected but much appreciated especially as an adult survivor of child abuse. Being poked and prodded by medical providers without verbal consent is so normalized nowadays. My time with Taproot has taught me to be a stronger advocate for myself and that I have complete autonomy over my body. 3. Another thing that resonated with me was that they valued our time together. Each prenatal and postpartum appointment was scheduled to be an hour long. If i came with a list of questions, they took the time to carefully answer each one. On days i wasn't so inquisitive, they educated me and my husband about all things pregnancy and gave us practical resources to help mentally and physically prepare for labor and postpartum. If you feel drawn to some of the experiences I mentioned or are considering going the home birth route, it wouldn't hurt to schedule a free consultation with Tel and Amy. I don't know for sure what the rest of my pregnancy journey would've looked like had i remained in Kaiser's care. But i do know that my prenatal care team- Tel, Amy and my husband, was truly a dream team that empowered and supported me from pregnancy to postpartum.
