This school is super incredible! I highly recommend training here. Professors Vanessa and Brian are…read moresome of the most caring and knowledgeable teachers I've ever had. They do a whole week free trial and the kids program always looks like a good time! Coming here from training at several other schools this place stood out for their wonderful community and positive way of coaching. Plus Professor Vanessa leads an absolutely amazing women's team and program - if you're a woman looking to get into BJJ there's no better place to learn the sport than among a whole team of supportive women! Anyone looking to train and uncertain feel free to add me as a friend and message me with any questions.

He's a ball full of energy, all the time, and I wanted him to get enrolled in an after school activity to siphon some of that off, and make friends. Three years later, I've also enrolled, and now we're learning together. I didn't know much about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) other than it was used in UFC, I've never done a martial art, and I've never been athletic. The best part is that none of that matters, you only need to bring the will to learn and curiosity to try, and the rest will fall into place. BJJ is a unique martial art unlike any other, and we're lucky to have such a high caliber of instruction in Colorado Springs. As a martial art, it's exciting and has great self-defense techniques, as a sport, it's thought-provoking and a fantastic work out, and as a lifestyle, it stirs emotions and inspiration, pushing you to achieve what you never knew you were capable of. Professor Bryan is an extremely humble, knowledgeable, and energetic teacher who I have seen transform the lives of kids and adults for the better. When you enroll, you aren't just getting classes, you are joining a school and a community with coaches and fellow classmates that cares for one another and is invested in everyone's development to reach their maximum potential. I've had more fun as an adult then I've had in years. My son and I have met wonderful people we're glad to call friends. This is a vibrant, diverse school that deserves a special place in the Colorado Springs culture. You can try a week for free, and once you do, you'll wish you signed up sooner.

These events happened to my 14-year-old daughter who was attending a youth group event as a volunteer for Pikes Peak Suicide Prevention, where Mr. Costley and other CFMAF members put on a demonstration that followed the presentation from her group. While her group were waiting to facilitate the next activity, they were seated as bystanders during Mr. Costley's martial arts demonstration. Apparently, to set the stage for his demonstration, this man made comments about how "females need to experience pain too" and how prospective students can learn to "wield power". He then approached their table an WITHOUT ASKING FOR IR RECEIVING CONSENT, grabbed MY DAUGHTER by the arm to "demonstrate" a martial arts move. She was understandably shaken, as were the students who witnessed the interaction. Immediately after, Mr. Costley turned to another young person in her group who was audibly saying, "Do not touch me." Despite this clear refusal, Mr. Costley grabbed the student, pulled him from his chair, and knocked the chair to the ground. Observers reported that the student appeared to be injured. One of her teammates was so affected by witnessing this incident that they experienced a panic attack. Not that I need to justify anything, but I will let it be known that my daughter is a tough gal and not dramatic. In fact, when relaying these events to me, she very much tried to downplay it and had bitten her tongue during the events because she didn't want to "cause a scene". After some silence on the way home, she became more and more upset, and she cried as she told me she felt "manhandled" and "humiliated". Her volunteer group leader also corroborated the events l, and to say I am enraged is an understatement. My daughter's boundaries were VIOLATED by a complete stranger and there was no apology whatsoever. Shame on you, Mr. Costley. Your actions go completely against what a good dojo should represent...honor, respect & humility. To anyone considering enrolling your child at this practice, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere.

They have pushed when it was difficult, and as they enter adulthood I am watching how well-grounded they are. It is not easy to make this a priority with 6 children, but our faithfulness has paid off in the inner discipline and strength exhibited in every area of their lives. Number four is preparing to test for his adult black belt- and I can see the man he will become in the next few years. I praise God for the gift of CFMAF in our lives.
