I sought legal representation for a Family Court custody matter because I wanted an attorney who would be prepared, communicate with me, and advocate for my position. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. Just wanted him to do a cross, and speak for me because I was so tired. He first said he couldn't take my case and then later did, so I was excited. I would get some rest, some peace finally and be able to focus on my son and I. Before court, I repeatedly instructed him not to disclose new information because I believed it was unnecessary to the issues before the Court and could complicate my case given previous appearance in which this had happened. That was the one instruction I repeatedly gave him. It was the condition of him representing me. During the hearing, the judge asked only two questions. Instead of answering those questions. He disclosed new information not pertinent to the question. We had not thoroughly reviewed my proposal before court despite having the opportunity to do so. He also did not provide the Attorney for the Child with my written proposal beforehand, despite my understanding that it had been requested. I was surprised that he answered questions about my proposal without first confirming the details with me. From my perspective, he was not adequately prepared for the appearance and should have let me speak my proposal. Everything that came out of his mouth was false, or inaccurate. When I attempted to get his attention because he was disclosing the one piece of information I had repeatedly asked him not to disclose, he raised his voice to me in open court. Afterward, he continued yelling in public courthouse hallway were others could hear. Berating me so everyone in the courtroom could hear. The exchange became loud enough that a court officer instructed him to lower his voice. Instead of explaining why he believed this info needed to be disclosed or discussing a change in legal strategy, and going directly against my request and attorney client confidentiality, the focus shifted to blaming me. I was repeatedly told that I was "challenging," "difficult," and "my own worst enemy." The exact same things the AFC And child's father put on record when I don't sit quietly and do as they say even if it's unjust. They say I'm victimizing, that was not the professional guidance, communication, or advocacy I expected from my attorney during one of the most important custody hearings involving my child. Another concern was that I paid a consultation fee and an additional payment toward representation, yet I never received or signed a written retainer agreement despite discussions about representation yet he accepted it and appeared in court. Overall, my experience was marked by what I believe was malpractice, inadequate preparation, poor communication, and unprofessional treatment. I left the hearing believing that my position had not been accurately presented to the Court and that the issues the judge asked about were overshadowed by information I had specifically instructed my attorney not to disclose. He intentionally delayed the case so my son's father could get custody, and child support again and would pay him off and the AFC could prolong the case. This review reflects my personal experience. Others may have a different one, but based on mine, I would not hire this attorney. He is a disgusting human being. May God have mercy on him, his poor mother and those around him.
