A warm & inviting atmosphere, talented make up artists (especially Taryll Atkins, you slay girl! & Daisy, you're awesome, love ya!), positive energy & good vibes, lots of helpful tips & tricks of the trade and so much fun along the way. As a career change from a 5th grade teacher to makeup artist, I was fortunate to have found Academy of Glam. My love for & passion for creating art through makeup, only got stronger. I learned so much and became a better version of myself. Thank you Academy of Glam & Victoria Duke for helping me to grow as a professional & confident makeup artist. GLAM ON!

I took a class in January at Academy of Glam. It was amazing. Here is my blog about it. I highly…read morerecommend AOG to make up artists, models, and anyone looking for a "happy place." onight was my last class of a series entitled "New You" at Academy of Glam (http://www.academyofglam.com) so of course I had to take a picture there! You can read the class description here as I did: http://jewelsfablife.com/2011/01/06/happy-new-you-happy-new-me/ Well, the class was totally different as described in my friend's blog, but I can't exactly describe it... Why? Because it was different for everyone. It was more soul searching than I thought, and it wasn't full of ladies my age... it was full of ladies half my age through ladies almost twice my age, but we all had something in common, we were there for ourselves. Not a selfish kind of thing, but almost like a female retreat.. Dancing, Crying, Laughing, Hair Styling, Browtox (not really, but the way this lady did your eye brows, you leave looking like you just had eye lifting surgery {http://www.wowbrows.net} ) Make Up Lessons, Photo Shoots, Facial Masks, Belly Dancing, Burlesque Dance Class, Zumba Class, Self Defense Classes, Nutrition Advice, Supplement Advice, Meditation, Financial Fun Advice ( by Natalie P. McNeal, author of The Frugalista Files { http://www.thefrugalista.com } )Fun, Fun, and Reality TV Taping, too. But what did I get out of it? A sense of not power, but empowerment.. does that make sense? I learnt to "Dream Big." Not like... I will win the lotto tomorrow..but a huge combination of things... to have a private, sacred place in my home dedicated to me.....a place that I can define my goals and dreams. It may just be a journal on my dresser next to my new fabulous makeup, or it may be a huge poster board with pictures on it to visualize my dreams...my destiny...my life. I am happier now than ever. It's like turned 30 and decided, who cares if people like me or don't. If they like the way I raise my kids, or don't..the way I dress, the way I operate.. if they don't like me, no worries, I don't need them to be a character in my movie.. they don't even need to be an extra! :) I made some awesome friends from this experience, I met many make up artists, but one in particular really stood out, but not as a make up artist, but as an individual...as a friend...and it happens that I also really hit it off with her husband, too.. Not knowing he was her husband at first too, didn't put two and two together for a minute there.. :) (http://mymakeupchallenge.blogspot.com/2011/01/editorial-makeup.html) I met someone I admired as a photographer, too, and now I can definitely call her a friend, and wow she stays busy. She has an awesome house that she turned into the ultimate location for photo/video shoots (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Mendy-House/127636300620740) So all in all, it was for sure the best $49 I ever spent, and hope to take some more classes there. It's just a great place to be! :)

The work is professional and detailed. The second time, I went in for a fill and to shorten the length, and again the student who worked with me did an exceptional job. Every student I've worked with has been talented, focused, and so receptive to guidance. Karla, the instructor, is absolutely incredible!! she works closely with the girls, teaches with so much patience and skill, and you can tell she truly prepares them to do amazing nails once they graduate. Honestly, I've had a better experience getting my nails done by Karla's students than I've had at the salon near my house. Highly recommend being a model here!

One of the instructors, was consistently unprofessional. She belittled me in front of other students, made disrespectful comments behind my back, and created a toxic learning environment. This is not the kind of treatment any student paying for their education should ever have to deal with! I brought my concerns to the office, and while I was told they would handle the situation, nothing ever changed... In fact, the same instructor is now regularly promoted by the school, which is deeply frustrating considering how poorly she treats students. Also spending almost $3000 for the program, they're supposed to give you professional tools, they give you tools that are less than $20 and they end up breaking within the first couple days of using in class. It is ridiculous... If you're considering enrolling here, strongly do your research.

They have mistreated my elderly mother with dementia as well when she asked about some uneven cuts to the back of her bob. We were told, if you don't like it you can come back for someone else to fix it. (Not just fix it now during her appointment.) I advocated for my cut and educator confirmed. I signed the paperwork. The student refused to do what the educator said and was short with me on multiple occasions though I had never met her. Despite me then asking nicely to respectfully please do as we agreed on with the educator, she refused. I asked to speak to the educator again if we can discuss this. It was the fifth time this had come up but she kept pushing it off and was upset she had to do it at the end and learn the technique. The haircut itself was exceptionally slow and took like 2.5H. What in the world?! Their quality has gone down terribly and they don't care whatsoever for their customers.
