In my humble opinion it is the best in the North East, it has a bar and diner upstairs, it is next door to a McDonalds, Frankie & Bennies, Pizza Hut and a local pub so you are not restricted to just the cinema if you have a while to wait for your screening or you want some food or drink after the movie. There is an Asda a few yards away also which comes in handy if you would like to do a bit shopping on way hom also. The cinema itself is really comfortable, the seats are really comfortable and roomy and I think this is one of the main things I like about this cinema and sets it apart from other cinemas Ive visitedoh and the popcorn is the best I have ever tasted!!

The Vue cinema, a large modern cinema from the chain of Vue cinemas - pretty much a rising chain…read moreover the last few years. It is quite confusing to get to as you almost appear to be driving past it to get into it so if you're a driving visitor to the area I would recommend looking up the route before you go. The cinema is a really big complex right near a pizza hut. The area it's built on looks really modern with big sandy stones. Parking is free. Inside it's pretty much like other vue cinemas, a huge blue decorated entrance room with the big pink neon signs and a door to the left which direct you through to the screens. The prices aren't really that cheap for the area - there are cheaper cinemas in Middlesbrough but of course that's a little out of the way so you might be better saving on petrol costs! I think it's around £6 for a student ticket which is what I get and a bit more for adult prices. The vue cinema has a really cool aura to it once you go through to the screens - the lights are all dimmed and each screen is indicated by a large bright pink neon number. Beware though - some of the screens are hidden round bits of protruding wall. The screens are all really nice with the seats arranged so that each row is much higher than the next in order for people who a tiny to be able to see! There are also some boosters you can use for particularly small children who might struggle to see. The actual screen is massive so I would advise not sitting near the front. Refreshements aren't cheap but you can't take in your own. Overall it's a bit expensive for me and I only tend to go if its for a specific reason.

Music ranges from traditional Northumbrian through contemporary and even stretches to a decent opera programme. The cinema does tend to concentrate on popular hit films, but they often have one-off showing of great older and foreign films. It's easy to recommend the Playhouse and it's very surprising that Alnwick has such an upmarket and interesting theatre in its midst.

It has been improved many times since with vast entertainment and display areas added. I have only had experience when Whitby Folk Festival virtually take over the complex for one week in August. Wonderful dance and music sessions in the Exhibition Hall and the downstairs pavilion hall and top class performances in the theatre. All ground floor areas have dedicated bars with a good selection of drinks and the main area has a cafe/coffee bar which serves a wide variety of snacks and meals at the appropriate times. The views over the sea are spectacular I am told this is one of the few places in Britain one can actually watch the sun come up and go down over the sea and I can well believe it, having seen some spectacular sunsets and dawns.

On the other hand the actual screen are very good, seats are the comfiest I have ever seen in a cinema.

There's plenty of leg room but the floor can get messy/sticky so be careful about putting your handbag under your seat (mine got covered in chocolate sauce once!) There's a bar upstairs but during busy times the seating is very limited.

To me though, this makes the whole experience more cosy and intimate. now the seats have been replaced, they are a lot more comfortable! There is a large multi storey car park right next door which is open over 24 hours, and there are lots of restaurants in the same complex if you fancy a bit to eat or a drink when you come out.
