I have dabbled in different therapy over the years - individual, career, money, and couples over the past 10-12 years give or take. I think in all I've probably seen over 10+ across all these facets. While going through a divorce last year - I was struggling a lot, and talking to 2-3 therapists weekly. There were therapists that mostly listened. There were some that trash talked my ex, which in the short time felt good, but long term wasn't really helping. There were others that recommended good resources - various books, podcasts, etc. I do think I learned something from each one. In the end, I have only kept going with Josie for my therapist. She has truly changed my life - for the better. - She taught me how emotions aren't a bad thing, and they help you gauge how you feel about situations, and how to manage them. - She taught me how to be less harder on myself, and by practicing self love, that would result in me not accepting bad treatment from others in relationships. - She taught me how to forgive. - I learned how to stick up for myself, through baby steps. Through a letter or text. And over time I find myself getting better at it. - She taught me how to resolve anything that was looping in my head. Whether it was the past, or making a hard decision. - She helped me be a better mom - I used to find myself snapping after certain high stress situations, but can't even remember the last time that happened, and enjoy parenting more. - She helped me look at people and situations from different perspectives and angles that have helped me understand people better. She really cares about her clients. She's gone over our time even by as long as 30 minutes, because she really wanted me to get a certain concept down, or to get across something she thought would help me. She could easily charge 3-4x and she knows this, but purposely keeps her prices low so she is financially accessible. People ask me - how do you know if your therapist is a good one? For me - I look at a few things. - Do they make me feel better? - Do I feel my life is changing in a meaningful / good way? With that said, will she be the right fit? I've been working with Josie for about 6 months now, I see her about once or twice a month depending on my availability. Her scheduling is flexible and convenient because she can also work on the weekends. I've had about 3 therapist after high school(I'm 29 now) and got turned off from going to therapy because they all told me I should take depression pills or anti anxiety medication that I didn't want to take... But Josie is not like that at all! I really liked how Josie was the first therapist to tell me that we have to heal my inner child/childhood trauma in order to take the steps to be happy with myself. I put off finding a personal therapist for years! I was the person who felt I could solve my challenges through prayer, talking to my best friends, journaling, etc. I thought "my problems aren't that bad" (in comparison to what I would hear others talk about) and I should be able to figure them out on my own. It wasn't until a friend told me based on a conversation we had that I sounded depressed. She had already told me I should see someone just because it was healthy but there was an urge a bit deeper in her voice this time. Then one of my best friends said, sometimes you don't even realize how bad it is until you wake up in a full blown panic attack (which happened to her). It still took me some time and one day I was talking to my girl who I often refer to as "my other daughter" telling me how amazing things had been and how her life was opening up and she was having these self realizations and really working through her life traumas. I was shocked to hear because she was normally so closed off. She proceeded to tell me about her amazing experience with an emotional coach. She told me she made her feel comfortable and heard, could tell her things that opened her eyes to life situations and behaviors, gave her tools and guidance, most importantly she raved at how she absolutely loved her. It took me hearing about this journey a couple more times before I finally asked her if she would be okay with me reaching out to this emotional coach. I was scared, apprehensive and nervous. One of the things I was so scared of, was not having a connection with the person I was going to give information about myself to and having to do it all over again with someone else if it didn't work out. I set my first appointment with Josie and when the day came I was so afraid. I didn't know what she was going to ask me and whether I was even going to like her. She got on the phone and instantly she made me feel at ease. All my apprehension, scarcity and preconceived notions I had put in my head went out the window. There was a genuineness and calm about Josie that made me feel safe, heard (even before I opened my mouth) and cared for. I felt instantly that whatever was going to come out of my mouth was going to be what I needed to say without even saying it. She allows me to be me, ask questions, she holds me accountable and keeps it real with grace and love. She has opened my eyes to so many truths about myself that I was unaware of. She challenges me to look inward and "holds my hand" while guiding me to find the answers within. She allows me to leave her messages when I am triggered and never leaves the information void, but addresses it all in our sessions. Tools that have allowed me to be kind to myself while conquering fears about my own vulnerability and learning truths that I would've never been exposed to that are opening doors within myself and manifesting externally.
