This historic medieval construction is dated from 1480 and in 1990 it was necessary to repair the whole building that was in a very poor state. It's also a Grade II listed building. Inside, Aston Parish Church is a true masterpiece, with its tombs, windows, monuments and architecture that well represents several centuries of history and all importance of Aston to the Birmingham heritage. Its impressive Gothic structure is an invitation to have some minutes of contemplation and I think everyone should visit this church. If you want to know more about the history of Aston Parish church, there is an illustrated guide to be purchased in the website.

For those of you that have ever driven into Birmingham from the M6, this is the impressive looking spire that you can see on the right hand side on the approach to the Aston Expressway. It's an amazing, Gothic construction - cathedral-sized (though not, technically, a cathedral) and containing some parts that date back to the 14th century. The stunning steeple was built in the 15th century. Inside is equally impressive, with stone arched porticos lining the central aisle and immense space in the high ceiling. Obviously, this is simply a review of this church as a building - I'm sure that as a parish church it also organises and hosts many worthy community activities and events, but I only have experience of snooping around this amazing structure.

St. Peter's is a picturesque old church on the Sutton landscape and situated in the tiny part of the town which goes under the little-used name of Maney (pronounced may-knee). The small grounds are always well-tended and it's a beautiful location to get married at (as my parents did in 1981). When I was a stroppy teenager, one of my favourite places to hang around and think was the public path at the side of St. Peters (but on their land) which runs from Maney Hill Road up to Pilkington Avenue. In summer, the path is in bloom and covered in all shades of green and lots of different flowers. By winter, it's sparse but still a nice place to pass, especially in the snow. My friend and I used to sit on the step of the church tower playing our guitars too. St. Peter's has a small hall at its rear which I once believed to be the St. Peter's Church Hall where the Beatles famously played in early 1963. It's not and it turns out that Church Hall has long since been demolished to make way for the maisonettes which stand on the corner of Maney Hill Road and Birmingham Road. So even though I ended up a disappointed Fab Four devotee (the amount of times I looked into the newer hall and thought 'the Beatles played there!'...) this still a lovely hidden corner of Sutton Coldfield that I've just given away.

The church has childrens groups and activities whilst parents can enjoy the service and theres a Mothers Union and a Womens Fellowship group both of which meet here.Theres also a midweek service of Holy Communion on a Thursday morning around ten thirty. The church is set in lovely surroundings, ideal for a wedding. This is a really lovely church...the best in Sutton Coldfield in my views.Do not be afraid to come along on your own...you will soon find people will come and talk to you and invite you to join them for coffee after the service.Everyone here is really friendly, including our vicar Rev Matthew Rhodes. SCBC is not a Sunday only church, there are plenty of activities and events going on during the week.If you Google Sutton Coldfield Baptist church it will come up with the church website that will tell you more about the church. We also run Christian course such as Alpha,Alpha Plus, & Christianity Explored...we regulary do Welcome Lunches after the morning service for people who are newcomers to the church. The services are 10.30 & 6.30.More people tend to come on the morning service but you do get quite a few on the evening service as well. Everybody is so friendly at this church & our pastor Donald who used to be the Youth Pastor here until the year 2000 is a really friendly & nice guy,as are all the staff here at scbc...so why not give this fantastic church a try..it doesn't matter what denomination you're from...all are welcome at this church....you'll be made to feel really welcome and at home the minute you come through the doors.I highly recommend scbc so do come along...its the best church out of all the Sutton Coldfield churches in my view....followed by Sutton Coldfield URC in Gracechurch centre and Duke Street Chapel in Duke Street & then Holy Trinity & St Peters if you like a ''Traditional Cofe church''...but do come and try SCBC i'm sure you'll love it here as much as I do.I love everything about it...the wonderful praise and worship, the teaching, the atmosphere, the warmth & friendliness...everything.

It's one of the most picturesque places in the Quarter and really worth a visit if you've never popped in before. The church is overseen by the lovely and eccentric Vicar Mary (who's love of Craft and Film is something to behold). It really is a lovely place to have a wander around, even if you're not in the least bit religious. Honestly, I can vouch that I have been in several times and have never even been singed (it was a relief not to burst into flames). As one of the more hospitable green spaces in the Centre of Birmingham, over summer it's a haven for picknickers, lunch-timers and readers. Over the winter, it's a magnet for sledgers and intrepid snowman makers. As well as Churchy-things, the building has been used for a multitude of cool events. Did you know Elbow hosted a super secret gig in the catacombs a couple of years ago? I have been to Jameson's events, Film screenings and live music based events here. It's well worth keeping an eye on the noticeboards as you pop by, you never know what the Vicar has up her sleeves!

St Paul's has taken a surprising and progressive approach to business by expanding their reach to include operating as a music venue - presumably to carefully handpicked acts only. I've been fortunate enough to see Laura Marling and Lisa Hannigan play gigs here, and both of them suited the venue perfectly. The vaulted ceilings carry their voices clearly across pews and pews of fans, and the acoustics meant the instruments all sounded crystal clear. I'm sure more performers will start seeing churches as an alternative venue to perform in (particularly if they're acoustic and/or folk) though I really can't see any loud heavy metal being performed here!
