Im suprised by some of the reviews here. Although I only go here for lunch. Been going here once a month for years now. Pizza, cajun wrap and the coleslaw are always spot on. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Occassionally, mostly when its slow, we have slow service and that can be a little frustrating. Not enough to keep my family from going. I have been going to this Emils frequently since they opened. It's a family friendly sports bar / restaurant, family owned / partially operated. Lots of flat screen tv's and great selection of beer. This place was the best thing that happened to Grayslake, that's why it's a long wait on Fri / Sat evenings. And don't even think of showing up after a playoff game starts, the place goes absolutely crazy when the Blackhawks are scoring. The owner, Bob, is often on site. The owners and staff are friendly, if you are a regular they will go out of their way to check on your experience. If you are new, they will also check on you. I've had most of what's on the menu, everything is pretty good. My fav's are: Pizza, thin and double decker; Broasted Chicken; any burger or patty melt; the rubin is fantastic; if you like a wrap, the Cubano is smoky delicious; best moz cheese sticks! All the sandwich's come with fresh cut fries and coleslaw; if you are a nacho person, the pulled pork nachos are awesome. Dessert: Beer nugget sunday for 2-4. I have also booked for large gatherings with short notice, for HS sports and other family parties. They have always done their best to accommodate.The business supports the local schools too which is great! We mostly do delivery these days and it is always lightning fast, food hot. I have read some of the other reviews; I have to imagine the mediocre reviews are do to a one time experience. Considering how often my family and I have frequented Emils, I'm not sure I have ever had bad food. Has something been a little dry or over cooked, maybe a few times out of hundreds of meals, literally. So, ok.. Where can they improve? The delivery order needs to be checked twice to ensure the extra sauces paid for are in the bag. This has become a common theme over the last 6mo, even after reading back the order correctly. A little attention to detail, that's all. Overall, Emils has become a staple in our little town, we love it. What's better, they are building another restaurant a few doors down. One of the better places to grab a meal with the family. We really love the mozzarella sticks! Truly one of a kind and always so great! There's a good selection of pizza, but I would suggest that you don't order delivery. There are better options in the area ONLY when it comes to delivery. The last few times we had pizza delivered it either wasn't fully cooked or was cold - like we were the last stop on a long route. If you're getting pizza in house, I'd suggest one of their specialty za's! Price is competitive with the area, but for now Emil's has a monopoly based on the area. What I mean by that is that it's smack dab in the center of the downtown area, so you'll always be thinking about it when you're in the area and your belly is growling. It can get too crowded if there's a game on. I'm not talking too crowded as in "oh gosh this is a lot of people," but rather "I can't even move without bumping into someone!" At times like that, I'll go get food elsewhere and head over to Light the Lamp down the street. All-in-all, great place, really good food! read more

Went for lunch with a large group while in the area. Ordered the broasted chicken with roasted potatoes and cole slaw. The chicken was hot and the juicy and the cole slaw was clearly homemade and excellent. I asked for a side of BBQ sauce as well. Turns out the sauce was bottled (Sweet Baby Ray's). Expected better sauce from a place that highlights their pulled pork as a featured item. Could have earned 5 stars if they made their own sauce. Despite our surprise arrival with 20+ people, service was good and pleasant. It did take some time to get our orders taken, but that was understandable given the situation. I moved to the area several months ago and have been meaning to try more local places. Some coworkers recommended Emil's to us so we've been there twice in the past two weeks or so. I like the atmosphere, it's laid back, lots of seating, and no rush to leave. We had the garlic cheese bread and two kinds of thin crust pizza. I know we're in the land of the deep dish but it's not my thing! I liked the pizza, pretty solid. Two of us ate a small in under an hour. read more

Normally a great place for bar food and a few drinks . Visited on a Wednesday night to relatively empty Emil's which is usually packed and was promptly seated only to wait 15 min at a table for no server to appear. Hostess glanced over a few times noticed no one had even got the drink order but did nothing. We finally just walked out the door after the table that came in 10 minutes after us was served. Not that anyone noticed or cared. To many other restaurants in the area to bother returning. read more

There is a mix of ages that come here, but the two times I've gone I've not been impressed with the atmosphere, the food and the service. The front door staff is not very friendly, and the wait staff always seem to be doing something other then their job. An extra item was placed on my check this last time, and when the waitress brought it to me and I made her aware of the mistake, I simply wanted it removed, she was not only rude (she rolled her eyes and told me she didn't know how that got on there if I didn't order it), but she did not want get the manger after I asked her to fix it and she said she couldn't. After she left I realized the item was from another person at my table and was going to suggest that it was just a mistake when she entered my check but she just came back with the recipe booklet and placed it on my table and left. read more

Having once lived in Mundelein, IL, we were excited to see the sign "Coming Soon - Emil's" last Fall. Emil's in Mundelein is a great, albeit little and grungy, bar and gill. It arguably features Mundelein's best pizza (sorry Bill's). A few weeks ago, Emil's Tavern on Center opened its doors in Grayslake. This is a welcome addition and alternative to the limited yet popular lineup of resturaunts in the downtown. It fits nicely between the offering of the Vine and the longstanding family favorite Last Chance. Emils is laid back but lively, and offers decent sandwiches, burgers and 'za. The menu is upgraded vs. its Mundelein counterpart, but still falls squarely in the bar-food category. In the two times we have been there, the experience has been solid. The expanded space is a great improvement over the original, too. We are looking forward to many more visits (and hopefully eventual delivery service??). read more

Emil's is the best place in town to watch a hawks game and have some pizza. The pizza here is pretty good, but their famous beer nuggets is to die for. Also their pulled pork nachos are the best pulled pork nachos i've ever had. They also have a huge projector to watch games. Also there are tv's all over the restaurant. This place has gone downhill. As a loyal customer who has been going to Emil's since they opened, I'm appalled with the horrible service now! I sat for 10-15 minutes waiting for someone to take our drink order while there was barley any customers there. I had wait staff looking at me directly in the eye while they continued their personal conversations with other wait staff who "weren't busy". I would seriously consider figuring this out soon if I was management! I used to love this place but after my recent experiences, I don't wanna go anymore. read more

Have been to Emil's before it was fine, pretty decent sports bar type of food. Went today and it started off bad with the iced tea tasting like it was made with old bath water and not even a hint of tea taste which I had to send back and exchange for a different drink. My friend and I both ordered an item off the specials menu which apparently they were trying to get rid of, some kind of sliced beef. I had the tacos with the beef and my friend had the cheesy beef sandwich. I ended up just eating the fried onion strings off the tacos because the meat was unpleasant. Neither of us could finish the meal it wasn't good. The meat tasted on the verge of going bad. On top of the flavor being bad I had a hair in my taco. We left still hungry and regret not sending the whole meals back. We won't be back any time soon. read more

Stopped in the Grayslake restaurant to meet my son and daugter-in-law for dinner. I personally had never been to Emils, but all my kids have been so I gave it a shot. I have to admit, I wasn't a big fan of the pizza. Kind of tasteless and cardboardy. The beer nuggets were good. Went there on a recent Sunday evening with a pretty large group. We had a reservation, so I'm not sure why they weren't staffed accordingly. Only one waiter assigned until we started complaining. Food was good but service was ridiculously slow. They took drink orders right away but it was at least thirty minutes before someone took our food orders. And then getting our food took another thirty minutes beyond that. I'd recommend it as long as you have the time to sit and wait! read more

Food is just average. Fries are soggy, burger always upsets my stomach, Order mozzarella sticks once and it was a huge block cheese wrapped in a wonton wrapper. Not what I was expecting. Ordered our drinks and then our food, two burgers, along with apps--beer curds. Good. Beer on tap. Fine. Sprite. Fine. We were still sitting there an hour later without food. I asked the waitress twice about the food. I told her I'd wait for two more minutes, her estimate, on when then food would arrive. It wasn't there and she was nowhere to be found. We walked up to the hostess and asked for our check. A manager came up to us with our burgers, shaking, plated and asked "did you order your food right away?" Uh yes. I have a teenager who was also so pissed, and we didn't want the food. A starving teenager was pissed. The manager offered to wrap it up, for free. Okay, whatever. After five more minutes, still nothing. We were outta there and handed our bill and cash to the hostess. Truly unbelievable. Here's the kicker. Walked in with high expectations and walked out 13 minutes later with none. We arrived last night and was seated. After a good 6 minutes with no server in sight we asked the hostess if we had a waitress? She acted in a shocked fashion that no one had been over yet and said she would fix it. 7 minutes later, after watching later seated tables being served their drinks , we got up to walk out. At that moment our server rushed over over and acted angry we were leaving. She said that a whole tray of drinks had been dumped on her and she had to clean it up and change.... I looked at her and calmly said, then someone should have taken your tables. I wasn't mad but rather disappointed that I was tagged as the bad guy when all my husband and I wanted to do was share a meal after just attending a wake. We have been coming here since it has been opened and the bar has been always first come, first serve as far as tables go. Nope, not tonight. My wife and I have eaten here quite a few times. One we decided to pick up some pizza. Pizza was great, but when we asked for crushed peppers and a few plates, the staff member explained that they usually charge for these things. I was shocked. Who does that! !!! read more

I contemplated giving this place just 1 star but decided to be generous and give it 2. We came in, they told us 40 minutes (totally fine, we don't mind waiting). It was only 10 maybe 15 and I thought "we're off to a great start!"... That's as good as got. We waited over an hour for our food and to be honest, it was not at all worth the wait. I imagine the kitchen to be full of frozen pizzas and microwaves for heating up premade soups. To top it off, our waitress only came by our table MAYBE 5 times in the basically 2 hours we were there. Thankfully I don't live near by so I won't have to worry about using it as a last resort meal. Go to Dog n Suds down the streets, that place is 5 star by comparison. read more
